anyone know if a 6pm flight out of raleigh-durham airport is feasible if we're scheduled for the afternoon session (projected end time is 4pm) or is that pushing it?

it might be.. rdu is about 30 min. away i believe
you might be able to talk to the staff and have your interviews scheduled for an earlier time and be out of there by 3?

i had a flight at 530. more than enough time to wait, split a shuttle, wait at the airport and get bored to death (pretty cool series on HBO). so plenty of time

Makeshift-

Does this mean you were eventually able to log in to the website and book an interview slot? I am just wondering because after you posted that, I went to the site out of curiosity and I was able to log in... but I haven't gotten anything in the way of an email invite (so I obviously didn't click anything past the initial log-in page). Anyway, I guess I just wanted to say congrats if you got an interview and get a feel for whether or not my ability to log in means anything or not. This waiting is driving me bananas!!!!

well, i got my email invite a couple weeks ago (OOS) and wasnt able to log in, but i called the office and they had to re-activate my account. I just havent been able to book my flight till now. Interview slots are all booked, at least for oos, until december i believe, but i got lucky with one opening next week. Good luck on your wait, maybe being able to log in means some good news!

So does anyone know if there is any significance in being able to log in to the interview site?

whats the earliest people think UNC will distribute their golden admissions tickets?

None. To wit, I was able to log in and schedule an interview date. I called Joni James, just to be sure that this was intentional on their part. It wasn't.

However, she's suuuuper nice, and we cleared it up very quickly and pleasantly. I don't think it will impact my application negatively.

Nevertheless, I realize that perhaps my role is to serve as a warning to others - don't assume that just because you can log into the interview scheduling website, you have an interview!

Well it's a good reflection on you that you actually called to confirm. You could have scheduled a date and just showed up. So I agree, can't see that being viewed negatively. Although I'm sure that was awkward for the admissions office to "un"-invite you for an interview.

In terms of first acceptances, I looked at the thread last year. First person to post their acceptance was 10/24, although someone else confirmed that they knew someone that had gotten in before that. After that, there wasn't any that posted an acceptance till December. I think they said they meet every 2 weeks to discuss applicants, and they give acceptances to the really impressive ones in October/November, then most people will hear back around January/February.

Wow. That sucks... Thanks for letting us know though.

Yeah.... awkward is one way to put it.

However, I'm hoping that your view is similar to the one she had. i.e., "Wow, what an upstanding guy! He checked to make sure, and that makes him ok in my book! Accepted, no interview necessary!!!"

Well, maybe not the last line, but you get the idea.

That is kind of a funny story. Of course for you it was awkward, but it makes for a good read.

I interviewed this week. Things went well. I have heard that most applicants (in state) that interview this early get in. Is that true?

I think that is wishful thinking. I do think that being part of the early interviewers is definitely in your favor.

WOuldnt count on it, but it probably helps.

last year's acceptance thread said that unc notifies by phone.

does that mean they call you? or you have to call them to check your status?

They call MOST ppl...for some reason i missed my phone call cause i was on vacation and didnt find out till over a week later Via snail mail.

I've been told that the wait time between an interview and a decision is about 8 weeks.

From what I heard at the interview 8 weeks is about right.

Is there any way to withdraw your application? I have no shot at this school, haven't gotten a secondary nor heard anything from them since 7/20.

I would like to withdraw - I wouldn't even do the secondary if I received it at this point.

Email them and say that you want to withdraw your application from consideration, I guess.

I'm going to mark this one as "silent rejection". I can't believe they suckered me into paying the secondary fee.

I'm debating whether or not to send in my secondary in the next few days. Not sure if I'll be throwing money away since I have no NC ties.... 😕

I don't know if this helps anyone, but I called in on Friday just to see if there was any info on my app... I got the email saying that had my primary on 7/20 and hadn't heard anything since. The lady I talked to started out sounding really sick of people like me, but she ended up being really nice and said that I was still in the running and that this was by no means a silent rejection.

Well, I couldn't put up with the silence anymore so I sent a withdrawal email.

This a great school, so good luck to everybody else still in the running!

That's a bold move. Good luck to you with the other schools.

Another FYI for all of us OOSers:

I called last week to check in, having completed a secondary like 2 months and he said that the committee would be meeting tomorrow (well, today actually) to discuss OOS interviews. He estimated that some emails would be sent out by Wed. or Thurs. hopefully! Fingers crossed still...

awesome! At least we know things are still "alive" down there; and maybe we'll here one way or another within the next 2 weeks.

Thanks teddy - good sleuthing!

so slow...👍

The admissions office is not indicative of the rest of the school though..idk what the hell their problem is.

Btw Aladdin, how you dong beautiful? You dreaming about howard brimbley and diabettus yet?

Fantasic...every night!

I got the phone call last night, first acceptance! So apparently they have begun to notify. I interviewed two to three weeks ago. Good luck everyone!

Would you mind giving a couple more details? What was your interview date? When did they call you (time)?

Thanks and congrats.

And so it begins . . . the silly season where now people who have interviewed can start getting anxious.

So...UNC has had my primary application since July 22nd and said nothing besides "We received your application." I know I'm OOS...but I kind of wish they'd just reject me and get it over with instead of dragging it out like this.
Or is this normal for their office to take practically 3 months?

i interviewed here a month but havent heard back. think my app has been passed over already?? too early to write a letter of intent??

RELAX!!! I know it's easier said than done but UNC has been pretty slow in deciding on acceptances in the past. It's only freakin Oct 22. Start freaking out in Feb/Apr or don't freak out at all.... Now's just not the time to do it, wasted energy. Distract yourself with other things.

No - your app hasn't been passed over
Yes - WAY too early for letter of intent

Welp, Wed. or Thurs. went by and I didn't hear anything. I assume anyone else living in this thread would've let us know if they did, so 🙁

You took the words right out of my mouth. Though looking on last year's thread, it looks like people started getting interviews about a week after they were "supposed" to start contacting them... It is starting to feel like a little bit of a lost cause though, isn't it???

Eh, well, at this point I've stopped expecting to hear anything from anyone. I have eight schools that I've been complete at for two or three months. I feel like I gave my phone number to a bunch of girls and now I'm waiting for them to call me back, all the while wondering if I should call them or if that would look too presumptuous.

Amazing analogy.

Any re-applicant in-stater's gotten interviews lately? I interviewed last year and completed my secondary this year over a month ago. I think I've made significant changes to my application (improved MCAT, better LORS, more medical experience, lots of additional volunteering and shadowing etc...).

I thought I would definitely get another interview here for sure, but now I'm starting to wonder.... Just wanted to see if any other re-applicants are getting any love from UNC lately

When did you interview last year? Maybe you are destined to interview during that time frame again

I interviewed in January last year (Think I got the invite in November though)

I hope you're right... even though I would have rather gotten an earlier slot this year. I interviewed at ECU last year in December and in early September this year. I was hoping that as an improved re-applicant, I would have a chance to fill up some of the earlier slots rather then try to squeeze into the last available.

<Sigh> oh well... I knew what I was getting myself into when I decided to reapply - a year full of doubt, waiting, and just overall torture. I just hope it pays off this year! Otherwise, DO/Caribbean schools… here I come!

posted in the wrong thread... ignore this.
