What are people's thoughts on the workshop.

I honestly came out still not knowing specifically what I did wrong. And I tried to get information. All he said was apply earlier. He said that I didn't get all accepts but he didn't say why.

The board member also said retake the MCAT???

Does that advice make any sense for someone with an already good score. I tried to press him for information and couldn't get much. He was like shadow more, and get more clinical experience do community service. Take a post bac class?

Did you ask him why you did not have all accepts? I know he did not offer the information, but did you probe him for it. Like they told us, I would do everything they told you to do because they make note of it. Maybe you can schedule a time to meet with Dotty and glean some more information concerning why you did not get all accepts in your interview.

I thought the group workshop was pretty generic, but I found the one-on-one portion insightful. The board member I was with was willing to answer any questions I had short of what my position is on the waitlist (which would have been the most useful bit of info). I already knew my MCAT was low, but overall, it gave me closure regarding what my interviewers thought of me. She actually read me some of their comments, which I found helpful. I thought she was extremely candid and after the experience I feel somewhat better about everything. This was just my experience though.

agreed, pretty much my take.

to the people who went to the workshop, did they mention anything about the waitlist moving/acceptances going out in the near future?

I talked to dotty and 4 have already gone out.

not to be annoying, but do you think those people have already received there acceptances or are the letters in the process of being sent out?

i really should stop looking at this forum, im going crazy haha.

She made it sound like two were notified already and two were mailed yesterday or today. She did say that if a nonresident withdraws, the next person on the list is chosen. But if a resident withdraws, then the next resident on the waitlist is chosen

That doesnt bode well for us out-of-staters on the waitlist

I agree as well. The first portion was very predictable, but the one-on-one gave me some valuable info. Apparently my letter from the pre-med committee wasn't very good which is nice to know because I could have reused it as is the policy. I found it odd that the Dr. talking to our small group told many of the reapplicants they don't need to retake the MCAT while at the general meeting they said EVERYONE needs to retake it.

I applied at ou last year, didn't get in, so im glad second time is a charm 😀 but i think kaplan is the best

accepted. not going. i know of 6 people already who aren't going to ou and have already been accepted. best of luck. \

Despite your gladness have you decided to go elsewhere?

ya, marsh, i have. despite you doing this and being rude (cant use other language), ill give up my spot so you might have a chance

Lying on this forum is much more rude than calling someone out on it.

I'm sorry DRMRL, I have been reading some of your other posts on SDN and I am beginning to wonder how much of what you say is true. Claiming acceptance at Johns Hopkins and taking the MCAT three times, scoring a 14, 20, and then high 30's (you sent me a PM saying you had a 25). You have some other crazy posts as well. I am not saying your friend's Jan 12th interview is misinformation. It sounds completely reasonable, at least more reasonable than some of the other information you are posting on SDN, but I wonder, as should anyone else who reads your posts.

I did take the mcat FOUR times scoring higher with each succession. I don't care if you don't believe me, sorry. 😎 I don't feel like I have to tell ALL OF YOU WHAT MY SCORES ARE OR ALL THAT I HAVE DONE IN MY EDUCATIONAL TRAINING. WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT TO KNOW. I DID get accepted to HOPKINS due to my research background and scores. geeze

any one out there with a 25 mcat and an M.D. interview? EXCLUDE Caribbean :luck:

9BIO, 8VR, 8PS I feel like it's balanced enough. No, I will not reapply this next year. That just isn't an option. I was accepted to a D.O. school (three actually). I'm waiting on my state school M.D. and out of state private schools. I feel like I would have been rejected already at most of the M.D. schools. 😎

Good luck to all of you! 25 mcat shouldn't keep us out. 🙄

25M, 3.73 sci and 3.68 cgpa

accepted in November. I created a volunteer program and my interviewers questioned me thoroughly on this matter. 🙄

i got into an md with a 25. dont worry

HEY everyone, I wanted to know my chances of getting an interview here: my science gpa is a 3.73 and my overall gpa is a 3.68 and my mcat is 25. What are my chances? I was complete back on Oct. 29. 😱

and this one was posted before all the others.......

I made a 25M then 38O nice try I can give you my password if you want to check. And yes, surely I'm talking about Johns Hopkins.

I couldn't show it in quotes because the thread was locked. It is on his/her fifth page of posts.

:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

I won't even post the private message marsh and I got from drmrl when we posted our interview dates asking about our stats because he/she did not have an interview. When later on in this ou thread Drmrl stated that his/her acceptance was in the fall ( well before our pms). If anyone else wants to investigate, check out the blatently false acceptance post on the Hopkins thread

I will not slander your credibility further. I do not see a need considering just one's post above…lol

I do not mean to be rude DRMRL, sincerely. I am not by any means a rude person. I just see major inconsistencies in your posts and I think it is incredibly wrong to be posting false information just to satisfy some inner need of yours. This is the internet, you can post whatever you want whenever you want, but if that information is false or being provided by a non-credible source, people should know. That way they can take everything you say with a grain of salt. Some of what you say may be true, but I'm sure you are familiar with the story about the boy who cried wolf.

Any how, I apologize for creating controversy on this thread. Best of luck wherever you end up, but seeing how you are done with the OU application process and will not be attending, hopefully you will not post anymore on this thread.

Alright, now you're just being a punk! People use this site to discuss legitimate concerns about applying to OU, and desire accurate information. If you don't want to be a part of valuable conversation that is fine, but you should not play any part in posting lies, false information, for mere enjoyment at what people will say or respond.

Good luck in you're career, but please don't cause drama for others who would like as much knowledge and information about the medical school application process, and OU. To the rest of you all out there, I can assure you that the vast majority of OU students do not act like this, and wish you all the best in your academic pursuits at OU or elsewhere!

If anyone is left out there reading this, I'm an OUCOM grad, now in my Residency at OU. I've been reviewing this thread on call as I'm advising a family friend who is pursuing medicine as a second career.

I encourage you all to not give up. If you've accepted positions in any program congratulations! If you are still pursuing your goal - don't give up! I'm 35, medicine was my second career, but my worst days of residency and medical school have been better than anything I did before. I wish you all luck.

Life is too short to not pursue the career satisfaction you deserve. God Bless

I just emailed Dotty and she said 15 have come off the waitlist and 22 accepted applicants are still holding multiple seats. Good luck to everyone on the waitlist.

Thanks for the information Marshds! Do you know if the ones that were sent out are coming this week? 🙂

No I do not know that information. I do know, however, that as of last Wed. 9 had come off. So between last Wed. and today, 6 have come off. I would imagine at least a few of those 6 will be receiving something this week. Let us know if you are out there!

Are the 22 students who hold multiple accepts only students who have been accepted to more than one MD school? I read in previous forums that those who were accepted to DO programs were not included in the "multiple accept" category. Any thoughts?

This is what I thought as well. I do not see how they could possibly know who is holding an acceptance at a DO school.

I would appreciate if the people who have came off the waitlist to post in the forum. It seems like the people who have came off are not instate or are not reading the forum....

Also, if you post, could you also say whether or not you'll keep the spot.

Thanks a bunch!

Friend of mine came off the waitlist and was accepted last Thursday or Friday...I believe his interview was on the last day in February, so apparently interviews are looked at very highly in the process...

hi, everyone..I just joined the SDN community! Anyways, I'm just letting you all know that I was accepted into the M.D./Ph.D. program back in October, yet, still undecided on if I'm going to OU medical school. I will keep you all updated on if I plan on attending. I may also take a year off, and travel in order to gain more world experiences. Then I would probably apply again NEXT year!! If you all want any information about my status let me know! Best of luck everyone.

Ya, I won't say directly but he had a great GPA above 3.8 maybe 3.9 not sure what exactly, I think Zoology major, lots of extracurriculars and volunteering, but a very avg. MCAT...

Very deserving guy, only reason he wasn't one of the initial 120 was probably MCAT score...

Well congrats to him, thank you for sharing the information.

Yes, I hold multiple acceptances. Why do you ask, just curious?

To see if you were one of the people with multiple acceptances that marsh posted. Most likely the accepted that will turn down ou would hold multiple acceptances. So the number taken from the waitlist probably won't exceed the number of multiple accepts

okay, gotcha. well, I'll let you know what I do...I was just saying I'm in, so if I withdraw I hope it helps you out. I may take a year off, or go somewhere else. I don't have to know for sure before "Mayish"

is it true that amcas regulates multiple acceptances? i heard that the deadline to hold multiples is around may 15th...anyone know if that's the case?

I'm curious if 15 "pulled off the waitlist" means that 15 waitlisted students have joined the class of 2014 or if it took 15 offers before the school had enough students to fill the number of seats available (fewer than 15).

Past years have had approximately 40 students "pulled from the waitlist" but I find it hard to believe that 40/165 students at the white coat ceremony were accepted from the waitlist.

I hope this makes sense..

I think it can take more than one waitlist offer, especially this early, to fill a spot. People at the top of the list probably have decent stats and are therefore more likely to hold multiple acceptances. Who knows though, I could guess and say it may take 15 offers off the list to fill 11 spots, but it would only be a guess. In the end it will probably end up being between 30 or 40 acceptances to fill twenty some spots. I am just speculating though.

Hey guys...Don't lose hope! I know its hard to believe, but this is not impossible. People in our class came off the waitlist some 2 weeks prior to orientation. One girl even started med school someplace else for 2 weeks, got accepted and left to come back to OU.

Lots of people can come off the wait list, if you're on it. Don't let your life be consumed with it, but certainly don't think it is hopeless.

And while i don't have stats for our class, I could fully see 30-40 spots (more on the thirty side) in the class being wait list folks.

Congratulations Plus 20! keep those posts coming! It makes the wait less dreadful to hear people receiving good news!🙂

Hi, everyone. I'm withdrawing my acceptance today, and I hope one of you get my spot. Best of luck in whatever you do, but I just wanted you to know there's at least one more spot left for you! 🙂

Hey guys, just thought I'd drop in and see how y'all are doing. Despite only interviewing with OSU for the first time, I was waitlisted so I'll let you guys know how that guys.

As for the people who got hot and bothered with my little rant, I'd just like to apologize for getting angry. I suppose it was a little insulting to be a previously-waitlisted applicant with a totally improved application and not even get a nod, but as said previously, interviews matter. Sometimes you can be the victim of numbers, too.

OSU offered me an interview a week after I applied; I know people who applied in November and didn't get an interview until March, but because I applied to OSU so late I probably shot myself in the foot in terms of "the numbers game". I can't complain, though. I'm still in the running at OSU.

But I will say this - rejections are a blessing in disguise. They've made me who I am; a hard working, positive, idealist who will never give up to achieve his dream of becoming a primary care physician. If I had been accepted all those years ago, I'd be in it for the wrong reasons. Rejections build character.

I know OSU is the place I want to go, but if I'm not accepted off their waitlist, I'm reapplying immediately. I don't believe in giving up; if you can get waitlisted, you can get into medical school.

So... NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER SURRENDER

Truth! Five pop into mind immediately and I don't even know that many folks' 'admission story' from our class.

Also, thought you guys should know that a FB page has been started for your class. Expect a number of the names to be current students who want to keep up with you guys/be available for Qs.

OU COM Class of 2014!!

Editing to remind you all that there is an OUCOM thread that has a jillion posts - plenty of MSO reading to keep you occupied until August. OUCOM on SDN...come on over
