I just got my acceptance letter today from OU College of Medicine. I plan on accepting the offer.

Good job everyone! 46 people off the wait list is much higher than I would have thought. Best of luck to everyone else waiting to hear good news.

46 is a whole lot of people. I wonder why there's so much movement this year....At the reapplicant workshop, the accepted MCAT avg was around a 31.5 or 32, and I guess many of those people didn't want to attend OU? Has the MCAT average ever been that high?

I imagine the average will be what it usually is when everything is all said and done, maybe a point higher...like 29 or 30

The stats of accepted applicants are usually much higher than the students that actually matriculate. If you look at the MSAR is more like a 28 and 3.7 avg. Applicants with 32 MCATs and 3.86 GPAs like the ones showed to us at second look day, can go to almost any school they wanted. In my case I got a BIG scholarship to an out of state school which is why I gave up my spot (and in state tution). I must say that 50/75 waitlist movement from a school with only 1500 apps is alot, but not uncommon for schools that students use as a back-up. The medical school I am attending hasn't even activated its wait list yet. NYMC has like 10,000 apps and has a class of 200 of which more than half are usually from the waitlist.

you are an insightful person keithokc. I would definitely appreciate it if the wait list will continue to move. Sometimes i forget that it is only June 4th so it is kinda early...

Maybe the fact that there is going to be a completely new curriculum next year scarred some of the applicants off with multiple offers. I am sure thankful for the movement though.

i think that being part of the new curriculum would be thrilling! The class of 2014 would be the first class to try out everything. Even though there is bound to be some snags here and there; the change can be a good thing for our medical training.

I agree and in looking over the first semester schedule and classes I am becoming more and more excited about it. But I can imagine some not wanting to be part of a new non-established curriculum, especially if they had a bunch of other options. This could be why there has been so much waitlist movement, that is all I meant. I for one am excited about it though.

not to be annoying, but do you guys think that these new four people accepted off the waitlist have received their letters yet?

So i'm a behind, but I was accepted off the wait list a couple of weeks ago. I have heard quite a bit about the new curriculum, but I have not been able to see what courses will be taught each semester and the curriculum for each class. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to look? Also, my wife and I will be moving to OK from Utah... any good suggestions on where to live?

p.s. is anyone else doing the school of community medicine tract?

To see the class schedule you need to establish your ouhsc exchange email account. From there, you can access the MS1 fall calender under public folders. Copy the calender into your main calender and you will be able to see the whole fall schedule. You can then sync it with your mobile device.

Very cool! I had not seen that. Guess that's what I get for using Firefox, eh? Thanks for letting us know!

ETA: I just looked at the schedule for each day. I am now officially terrified. :scared:

I know! It really hits home when you can actually see what you will be doing on a day to day basis.

Self directed study? required or not? i sure hope not...

I assume you are referring to the independent study periods. I have heard, and I don't know for sure if this is correct, that this time is designated for us to do research (hopefully they just give us a laundry list of faculty and their interests and we can choose) and get our names on some publications. I think there will be other options besides research, I was told, I just can't remember what they are. I know somebody on here knows more about it than I do, hopefully they will comment. As far as it being mandatory, I do not have a clue. I'm sure we will find out during the prologue.

That's interesting you all are talking about the new curriculum, because that is what honestly deterred me from fully accepting my position here. I will say that I like the systems-based curriculum, but a curriculum at a school that has done it for years. Best of luck!

well i guess that answers the questions about test blocks... school hasn't even started and i'm already dreading them.

I wish I could see the schedule! so 46 people have been pulled...what are the chances that more people will be pulled? anybody care to venture a guess??

hmm..but how many more of the remaining 29 people would be pulled? Im just trying to find a way to keep positive! I would think people have settled on their choice of school by now.

that's the real question, my GUESS would be between 3-7 more. But what the heck do I know?

I talked to Dotty yesterday and she said that they had just pulled #48

That is true Just One. I have to keep reminding myself that it is only the beginning of June and that it is still early. Although there has been significant movement already....

Hey, just thought I'd pop in and say that I know a couple of people accepted at OU who are on the waitlist at multiple schools in Texas (TX residents).

June 15th is a big date for TX schools- anyone who is accepted to one TX school is dropped from any and all TX waitlists where they hold a spot. This will move some people I know up the list. Hopefully they'll get accepted and free up a spot or two more for you guys.

I'm not sure how OU accepts people off the waitlist- if one OOS gives up their acceptance I wouldn't know if they would accept another OOS or an IS or whomever is most qualified (the third option being my best bet).

Anyway, just thought I'd share what I know with you guys- :luck:GL!

The spot would go to the next waitlisted applicant. However if an in state gave up a spot, the next instate waitlisted applicant is pulled (even if they skip a few oos waitlisted)

I've been out of town, but I received a BRE dated 6/3/10!
I will be accepting the seat. I'm very excited for the new curriculum; I think that it will be a much better way to learn.

Good luck to everyone still waiting. 🙂

Hi Everyone,

Just joined the forums today, although I've been lurking for a few months now. I'm on the waiting list as well.

Has anyone called the office today? I will call in an hour or so if nobody else has.

I called them, she said that they have still just accepted 48 people from the list. She also said that at least a few more will get in, but probably not more than that. 🙁 I guess it's time to pay those MCAT fees again.

ill be honest....i made a 14, then 21, then 38, and then a 40 on the mcat, and got accepted to all of the schools i applied to....oops. I'm having too much fun with this that I have to delete myself hahahahah

You retook the MCAT after having scored a 38? I thought there was a limit to taking the test three times without providing proof of rejection from a medical school? Your posts have officially made my day.

yeah I'm on the waitlist as well and am absolutely DREADING taking the MCAT again. I'm pretty sure there is no way for me to score HIGHER than what I got last year (27M), but what I do know is that I can certainly score lower...I really don't want to take it because I know that I will be guaranteed an interview next cycle if I reapply with a 27, but at the reapplicant workshop they told me to retake the mcat :/.

Hey guys, I just got the BRE..pretty sure I was number 48. I've been hanging out for months now. All I know is this whole time I was dying for people to post their stats when they were taken off the waitlist so I could maybe "estimate" where I was. But for those of you who care..I had a 3.61 GPA, 26 mcat, 11.1 OU score, and interviewed on Janurary 15th. I really hope the waitlist keeps moving for you guys, I honestly don't think it will stop now, just move a bit slower.

Ah Crazy, Lurch had 11.09875, my OU score is 11.07375, please move waitlist!

While that number is a decent estimate, don't count on the list being strictly numerical. I know some people that had a score well above mine that got rejected.

I talked to Dotty today, we're still stuck at 48 from the waiting list and down to no multiple acceptances being held.

well that sucks!! Is there any chance a letter was sent out yesterday or today? or are there no more letters this week?

FutureOKdoc do you mind posting your stats? I'm applying for this next cycle and I'm curious about the gpa and MCAT of people getting in this year. Thanks!

For those who are interested, I got off the waitlist a couple of weeks ago and here are my stats:

Undergraduate GPA 3.4
Graduate GPA 4.0
MCAT 28

Approx. 75-90 hours shadowing

3 years work experience (2 yrs as a research coordinator and 1 yr as a laboratory research technician)

A lot of experience volunteering with patients and in the community

1 publication (an abstract, listed as third author)

25S mcat, 3.67 GPA

3 years of work in the medical field

2 years of intensive research which will eventually lead to a publication (although it had nothing to do with medicine)

Lots of volunteering and leadership experience

Strong letters of recommendation

I think that covers most of it. let me know if there's anything else you'd like to know.

Best of luck!
