Hey LAman10..you will find out through a status update first. Then, they will snail mail your acceptance to you.

i -am- psyched and feel very lucky to have heard so soon. i just posted to inform people who might be waiting, not to celebrate. i felt positively about my interviews but it's not like i expected a positive outcome. good luck to everyone who is still waiting to hear 🙂

Status update to Waitlist. Interviewed 11/2.

Glad I'm not rejected since I didn't feel great about my interviews. I guess the downward spiral of application anxiety will continue at least another month or so 😳

same. hoping for a waitlist. given the caliber of students who haven't been accepted outright, it would be stupid of me to anticipate an acceptance right away. but I'll stick around on the waitlist and do my best to fight my way in.

I'm so jealous. was this your top choice? or are you waiting to hear from somewhere else?

i loved most things about the school and am definitely going to consider it seriously. for me it's too early to even know what my top choices are. i hope second looks + financial aid packages will help me get a clearer picture. pitts a great school, though. i hope you hear good news soon!

Just wanted to welcome the new batch of waitlists to chill with me, lol Hang in there guys!

Interviewed 11/4...still no update as of yet...but I'll be checking every 5 minutes for the rest of the day 🙄...I'm predicting a waitlist I think...

I will Thunderdome you for it. And by Thunderdome, I mean we will watch the third entry in the Mad Max series until one of us just can't take it anymore and intentionally drowns. That person wins, but the survivor (loser) goes to Pitt.

Are you insulting Aunty Entity? Tina Turner is my girl FOR LIFE! I have a feeling I'm going to be joining you guys on the waitlist, and so I would sooooo win this battle because everyone wins when the thunderdome is involved

That's fine. I'll get you in our Mad Max 2 (a.k.a. The Road Warrior) vehicular death race.

waitlisted. people seem pretty happy about this. does this mean they do rejections right now as well? is there significant waitlist movement or something? lol

has anybody who interviewed on 11/6 found out anything yet? I'm still "under review" but from what was posted today, I should be finding out pretty soon (for better or worse... but hopefully for better).

I interviewed 11/6, but I haven't heard yet.

Oh man, I LOVED this school. Now I need to work on disengaging myself since, you know, the chances of actually getting an outright acceptance are probably not great.

Well, this is nice. One of my interviewers responded to my gushing thank-you email with "I think you would be a great fit at our school." Possibly she's just super-nice and says this to very applicant, but it makes me feel good nonetheless 🙂

happened to me too...but waitlisted 🙁

oh good, my thank you emails were totally ignored...this must mean I'm getting an acceptance 🙄

Yeah, my interviewer told me she "Expected I would be accepted here." And I got waitlisted. There's still a chance, but take what your interviewers say with a shaker of salt.

No worries. I am armed with a big-ass shaker of salt.

Coming up on 5 weeks post-interview for me. Did anyone who got accepted recently wait that long? Or is this bad news? I thought they typically had a 3 week turnaround time. I want a decision 🙁

....

Same boat here. I guess our decisions are delayed since the committee probably didn't meet Thanksgiving week (so it's really only been 3-4 "business" weeks).

I'm also on the same boat as both of you. I interviewed 11/6 and still no update. I called the admissions office and all they told me was to continue checking my status and that it could be 6 weeks before I get a decision. This probably did happen bc of Thanksgiving so let's stay positive! 👍 At least we're not alone.

Also, I loved it at Pitt, but as I'm interviewing at other P/F schools, I'm wondering how the students really feel about the grading system at Pitt. When I was there, everyone was saying how it doesn't matter and students aren't stressed because no one knows how anyone else is doing. Is this really true?

I don't know that it's the grading system, but of the 4 places I've interviewed so far, Pitt students were noticably the most stressed. My student interviewer even complained about the amount of class time during my interview. It's a great school, and very impressive in a lot of ways, but I walked away a little uneasy about that aspect.

yeah, can anyone else comment on this? love the institution but didn't get a great feeling from any of the students.

Totally. They didn't seem happy to me and when I asked one student if she was glad she chose Pitt she gave me a 5 second "uhhhhh...". I got the impression from several students I talked to that they are spending far too much time doing work that they see as a distraction. I had 2 students tell me that they felt their time doing PBL would have been better spent studying on their own. Another student gave me the strong impression that he felt the scholarly project was largely a waste of time. It seems like such a strong program but I definately picked up a weird vibe from the students.

My student host told me the second and third years have been saying his first year class is noticeably more stressed than their classes were. He didn't think the group was competitive in nature, but their exam averages at the time of my interview had been significantly higher than previous classes (7-8 points higher, if I remember right). He attributed this to the younger class this year (the class has fewer non-trads than in previous years), noting that it's people who have taken years off from school that have the most difficulty transitioning to the medical school exams.

My host studied a lot, but he was also aiming for honors in the exams (he believed students should earn at least a couple honors). A second-year I talked to at lunch basically said he didn't give a **** about honors and was content just studying for knowledge's sake (he believed residencies don't really care about your grades in the first two years). Maybe this represents a difference in attitudes between the two classes, but again, these are only two anecdotes.

Either way, I got the impression that the Pitt medical students definitely know how to have a lot of fun. The parties they organize post-exams, the activities they do in Pittsburgh to take breaks from studying - it all seemed like they were enjoying their time. The students all felt really chill to me. My host, who studied a lot each day and was aiming for honors, proudly spoke of the medical students' domination in beer pong at a big party with all the health professional schools the week before.

The students I met at my Pitt interview seemed to be happy with their decision. I even specifically heard from 2 of them that they have more free time in med school than they did as an undergrad. I got a pretty good feel about the place.

Oh yeah, my fellow Pitt interviewees have been my favorite interview group so far. Everyone was really chill and good-natured, people I'd want to hang out with in school. Of course, I've met some great people on the interview trail at other schools and interacted with some really awesome current medical students, but Pitt assembled the most enjoyable interview group so far.

yeah I agree, I got a similar impression. There was only really one school where I was put off by the other applicants though...but I'll save the smack-talk for after the cycle.

The med students I met on interview day, my student hosts (2nd years) and my student interviewers all loved Pitt and were really happy with their choice. The only thing they harped about a little bit was the weather. I didn't meet anyone on the day that seemed unhappy with their choice like at some other schools. My student host was very real with me and his major concerns were figuring out what study style worked best for him so he could excel.

I think you would find students at any medical school with certain issues about their school or some that were not as good a fit as they expected starting off. You just need to decide if their concerns align with what you would be concerned about. Some students don't care for research, some don't want PBL etc etc so each student will have their own concerns about their education at a particular school.

Also, the tour guides were not overly bubbly or super excited 1st years that are still new to the med school. When I usually see that, as I have at a couple schools, I don't really buy it. I might just be a little cynical but its best to talk to the 2nd and 3rd year students who have already been through some of the trials of med school. The guides were lax, happy and very informative.

Is anyone looking further into the PSTP?

Is anyone looking further into the PSTP?

I applied for PSTP. I have half the paperwork filled out for the CSTP also. I love these programs. I did a lot of research after college, and as a non-trad, I'm not sure I want the time commitment of MD-PhD. But I would love a chance to get more in-depth with research. I didn't ace the MCAT though, so we'll see.

some of you may have status updates.

I was waitlisted, as I was expecting.

I interviewed 11/4 and am still "under review"...I hope that's not bad news! I loved this school!
