Honors = 1 SD above mean. Fail = 2 SD below mean. To receive an H for a Block, you need to average 1 SD above mean for all classes in that block. Sometimes that means only 2 tests, sometimes that means 5 tests. I don't feel obligated to honor tests/classes, but I've gotten a few (NOT in the Basic Sciences though, screw that! 😉 ). I've also had a few disasters. First two year grades are unimportant, so I don't feel that having the H in the grading system impacts me negatively.

There is competition, but you only have to worry about it if you want to worry about it.

Thanks for the honest assessment. It definitely gives me a better sense of how things work here.

unsure about ranking, but it hasn't started moving yet. last year, it started moving around the end of Feb to the beginning of March :xf::xf:

is it letter of intent time?? maybe........

Is pitt your top choice?

I emailed them a while back about the waitlist and they were pretty unspecific about when they would start accepting people. They said it would begin to move in "early spring." I have no idea when spring starts in pittsburgh but lets hope its soon :xf:

hah thats funny. good stuff

Check your email PSTP applicants! Interview invitations are going out!

I interviewed mid January, close to the application deadline for the program. What the guy doing the presentation said was the following: This year only, the committee was going to wait until all applications were received (so Feb 1st), have them all read a week after the deadline, and offer interviews from then on.

This is what he told us, since we wouldn't have our admission decision made before the deadline to apply. I don't know if they were able to follow through with it or not. Hope that helps.

When do you guys think people that interviewed mid Jan will receive a decision? I'm really holding out for Pitt!

thats awesome! congratulations. was there more than one date for you to choose from?

No, they offered me one date and asked me to confirm my intention to interview and my availability to take one of the six slots that day. If they are only interviewing six people that day, they must have other days they could reschedule you for if it doesn't work out.

Indeed, also got on for a day in early March. Pretty happy with this!

I am totally ready for Pitt to start pulling people off the waitlist. Please, Pitt. Soon!

Does anyone know when second look weekend is? I haven't heard anything. Thanks!

Didn't the acceptance letter say 4/29 - 5/1?

You're right it does, I just checked - I haven't looked at it recently and I've been receiving notices about second look weekends from other schools, so I was just wondering. Thank you very much!

do any of you guys know what it means if we haven't received an email from the PSTP program yet?

Heads up:

I just received my decision from Pitt (waitlisted). I interviewed on mid Jan.

Kind of expected it... I'm getting really sick of this waiting game.

Better luck to others!

P.S. anyone know of any movement in the waitlist yet? too early? also, is Pitt done interviewing by now?

I'm sorry...🙁 welcome to the WL. At least you don't have to suffer long - the waitlist should start moving soon. Last year it started moving the first week of March...so maybe it will start moving soon this year!

Also on the waitlist for a long time now ... do you think they'll email us status changes if we luck out with an acceptance? Or do we need to periodically check? I just check this thread figuring someone will post once WL movement starts

not sure. I figure I'll check my status every couple of days in March if no one has heard...but the second someone gets off I'll be checking that thing 24/7. but someone is definitely going to post here if they get off the waitlist...so we'll know when it's happening...

Thanks for the welcome... nothing against the people in our little waitlist group, but I'm not stoked about being here!

No one knows whether they're still interviewing? Seems logical that the WL won't move until they have handed out decisions to all those they intended to interview...

Last year some people were accepted from the waitlist on this Saturday via status page.. hopefully some of us will see some good news this weekend.

that early?! Then what are they waiting for?!! 😕 Or maybe more people have been accepted that I expected based on this thread

or not enough accepted people have withdrawn to make them start taking people off the waitlist... I suppose we should start hearing soon.

Looks like at least another month...

"As I indicated on your interview day, I wanted to keep you up to date regarding our admission process. This season we received 5,284 applications and we interviewed 999 applicants. We completed interviewing on January 27 and the Admissions Committee is currently reviewing the final applicants. I anticipate that this will be completed by March 12. It is at this time that the Admissions Committee will begin evaluating all waitlisted applicants. In early April, we will be pulling from the wait list and will be notifying those selected of interest via email.

At this time, I encourage you to begin the financial aid process if you are still interested in pursuing your education at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and will need financial assistance. Helpful information regarding the financial aid process can be found at http://www.medadmissions.pitt.edu/financial-aid/. In addition, our Admissions Committee welcomes any updates to your application or letters of continued interest. This information can be sent to [email protected] and will be scanned into your application so that it is available for review.

With so many outstanding applicants, it is extraordinarily difficult to weigh the experiences and backgrounds of so many who have put their hearts and souls into preparing for a medical career. I want to reassure you that the Admissions Committee is working very diligently in evaluating your application."

Yeah, another month... Oh, Pitt. I hope I'm not going through all this for nothing!!

EDIT: Chuck, when did you get pulled off the waitlist?

Are any of you fellow waitlisters going to fill out Pitts financial aid info? Is it worth going through the trouble before we're even accepted?

Maybe they opted for NeedAccess because it's another applicant filter

NeedAccess was painful and completely unnecessary, since we had to send in all the tax forms anyway. Plus you have to pay to submit it. 🙄

damn. i was really hoping this would be the week for us waitlisted applicants...

i'm super-sad....o well, here's to another month of waiting 🙁

I might not last the entire month. My SO needs to start looking for work in whatever city we are going to land.

I know what you mean... at some point, schools are hurt by the endless waiting. They stopped interviewing a month ago, you'd think they'd know who they wanted for the most part by now.

Wrote that in my LOI to them awhile ago, which they subsequently threw aside, lol

For me, Pitt has gone from #1 to #mightbetoolatebecausetheydraggedtheirfeet.
