Accepted today! I am so so grateful and overjoyed! Rochester exceeded all of my expectations on interview day.
Congrats to all the acceptances and good luck to those of you still waiting to hear!!!
I interviewed on 11/2 and got a phone call today, 11/23! 🙂

Did your status change or does it still say "invite" when you get put on the waitlist? Thanks!

My status says waitlist...and I got an email saying i had been waitlisted, too.

aaah what the hell. Invite via status page - I hate it when they don't send emails...can't complain too much I suppose. I'll shut up now.

Complete in August but they didn't get my second MCAT scores until the first week of October, if that helps anyone.

I've had my Rochester interview scheduled for a while, but I'm thinking about withdrawing because, after some consideration, I don't know if I can realistically see myself going to school in upstate NY (I don't have too many friends or family in the region and I'm a city girl at heart). This makes me kind of bummed because Rochester sounds like a great program. Can anyone tell me how Rochester is with financial aid - in other words, are they generous with it and do they give need-based grants like some other schools do? If so, what amounts do they give? If Rochester has a strong financial aid program, I think I'll keep my interview; if not, I may withdraw (and if I do, I'll post about it here so that somebody can try to snatch up the 12/18 opening 🙂).

I am a student at Rochester and also a recipient of some excellent financial aid. Heck, I'll even tell you exactly what my aid letter says.

Cost of Attendance: 59,410

Grant (FREE MONEY$$): 31,380
Subsidized Stafford loan: 8,500
Unsubsidized Stafford: 15,530
Subsidized Perkins loan: 4,000

If you get outside scholarships, you can knock off some of the unsubsidized loan. Keep in mind that I'm at the 99th percentile of financial aid and that not everyone gets this much. But it shows that if you are from a poor family, they are more than willing to help you out. This was a major reason I chose Rochester.

P.S. There are actually things to do in Rochester. I go to bars, sporting events, restaurants, concerts, etc. Cost of living is also crazy cheap, if you're concerned about money.

You should be getting an email right away... you sure it didn't go to your spam? If not... email the admissions office.

Yeah.

Park Ave is awesome for unique restaurants and shops.
East and Alexander = Club/Bar Heaven
Monroe Ave = Cool bar area to just hang and drink with friends (No clubs)
South Ave = Up and coming area for nightlife

Lots to do at night... not as much in the day. I am a night owl so I love it.

Oh, and Wegmans FTW.

I've been religiously checking spam and have filtered the word "interview" into a specific folder on gmail haha. I'll give the office a call on Monday. Thanks.

Even though the location might seem discouraging and might make you not interested, I highly recommend that you give Rochester a chance. I promise you that interview day will exceed all of your expectations. The people - students, interviewers, staff, faculty - will be the nicest you'll ever meet. On my train ride to Rochester, I felt exactly the way you feel now. On my way back from there, I was so happy to have had the opportunity to be interviewed there. Rochester AdComm really sees something in its applicants that many other schools fail to notice - Rochester goes waaaay beyond your scores on paper, and that is why I loved it so much.
Good luck! 🙂

well, now you guys have me thinking too....

Is there a message board / facebook group going for the class of 2014?

Rochester native..just received my invitation for interview!!! I'm so excited. Any tips from people who have already interviewed? Also, congratulations to all acceptances.

Hey guys, first post on this site, just as nervous as you all.

Anyways, I'm a UR undergrad student who has worked at the Med Center for the last 2 years and hopefully can provide some help here. I just recently got an interview at UR for 2/1/2010 and am really excited to be interviewing, though I wish it was earlier in the season. In regards to the discrepancy between when your status page is updated and when you receive an email, don't worry! The Admissions office only sends out email updates on Monday afternoons and even then it seems like they don't send all the updates every Monday, so don't be worried if it takes a week or two to get any email communication. Also, you won't be able to take any action on the website until you receive the email, so don't be worried if there's nothing to click to act on your new status.

Regarding life off-campus, it's true that Rochester may appear surprisingly devoid of life at first glance, despite its large size. But like someone mentioned above, there are actually quite a few places to go at night to find a great social scene. I have several Med School acquaintances who I frequently encounter at both on and off-campus parties. So don't let appearances deceive you, Rochester is definitely a fun place to be. The weather really only takes some getting used to and a positive outlook. Take that from a person who was born and raised in Southern California and has fallen in love with the city over the last 4 years.

Either way, sorry for the long first post, but I hope it is helpful to those of you who are curious about the Rochester perspective. Though I can't give too much of an inside perspective on the Med School itself, I feel like I can give a decent description of the actual Med Center facilities and overall Rochester experience after my time here. Feel free to ask questions here or send a PM.

Best Wishes!

Congrats! When were you complete here?

Congrats! When were you complete here?

Thank you. I'm not sure what you mean by "complete here?" If you mean my application, it was completed and paid for on Aug. 24th. My interview is scheduled for Jan. 11th.

Just learned a firsthand lesson in why it never hurts to ask. I stopped by the Med School office on my way to work in the lab and asked if they could let me know if they had any spots open up sooner than 2/1. This afternoon I got a call and am now interviewing this Friday. Now I have to try to get some sleep this week...

Good luck..they wanted me to come in on Friday, but I am unable to due to a test and lack of time before notification. Once again, good luck and let us know how it went.

Hello all,
I received my "application is complete" email from UR on Sep. 28th, but have yet to hear anything else from them. Does anyone know how long it takes to get an interview invitation? Do they tell you anything if you won't be invited to interview? I'm just getting a bit anxious...I'm wondering if I won't hear from them at all if I haven't yet. Is anyone else in this waiting boat right now?

That's what I meant. Usually, you get a "complete" notification at schools after you submit your secondary and payment. Congrats again!

Yeah, I got my complete notification around that same time and still have heard nothing...

The amount of time it takes varies since Rochester reviews applications randomly (not sure how this happens, sorry!). 2 years ago when I applied, it took about 3 months from my complete date to get an invite, so, and I know easier said than done, try not to get too anxious! And, you will hear from them either way... they won't leave you hanging.

Yeah, I figured that's what you meant. I am just new SDN and unsure of some of the lingo... Like I said Aug is when I finished application but received a document from the U of R in late Sept saying my file was complete. Once again thank you for your congratulations and good luck in all your affairs.😀

I wish there were posts on the Interview Feedback thread that were more recent than September.

Rejection 🙁 Guess you can't win them all. But god, what a beautiful school. Good luck to all those still in the running.

Are rejections via status page? Gahhh this waiting game is getting to me...

Don't worry just yet, guys... I was complete in August and didn't receive an invite till the last day in November... there's still hope!

When people come for interviews, let me know so I can come meet you!

Happy day before Halloween!

I'm coming for interview Jan. 11th. It would be a pleasure to meet you and hear all about what you think of U of R. You have been such a help to all of use on SDF. I'm am so excited...this is my first interview and it's my hometown. I love Rochester so much and I glad it has had the same effect upon you. I look forward to my visit...I cant wait!!!

Pre-interview rejection today, didn't think I have much of a chance anyway 🙂

Definitely. Glad you're excited! PM me a couple days before your interview!

How do I get to the status page to check my application? I don't have the link in an email or anything, and I can't seem to get to it on the website...help!

Thank you, Oze!
So it says that an interview decision will be made by Jan. 15th. Is anyone else in the same boat?

Mine says that as well. I think that's the general message for applicants that are still under review.

Got to see the place today, it really is nice. Everybody's really laid back and friendly and the facilities are great. Seems like they do everything they can to support the students and make med school fun and engaging.

Can people who have interviewed, post on interview feedback..it would be nice to see some updates on what you guys thought of the place. Thanks.
