Then some of us might get letters on April Fool's Day and we will have to wonder . . . :xf:

That would be the worst prank ever! "We would like to congratulate you on your acceptance into the University of Utah medical school class of 2014. Please send your deposit by.................... oh and by the way, APRIL FOOLS" :annoyed:

Sigh... the wait is getting really tedious. I am an MD/PhD candidate and I do believe that a few of the oos slots will go to our class, but probably no more than 3, as they will make 5 offers and take who comes. Of those five offers usually only about three accept, and usually one or two are oos. We are supposed to get our letters sometime between now and the 1st, but they are waiting on the SOM decisions, which says that I might not find out till the second week of April (...groans). For us pretty much who gets in depends on who the med school admits... MD/PhD ranks us (only 20 interviews) then waits on the md lists.
Did anyone else interview with Brian Whelm? It was a bit weird cause I had his wife on my PhD day and the rest of his day that day was PhD apps...

Does anyone know what day in March they are sending out acceptances/rejection notices? I'm starting to get a little antsy. I know they said toward the end of the month, but has anyone heard a date?

I don't think that there is a specific "day" that they send out the letters. From looking at past threads and my experience last year, it seems like they send out the letters as soon as they know if they accept you or not. On the same day they can send out a bunch of rejections and a handful of acceptances. The good news however is that there are just a few more weeks of mailbox hovering for us!

Accepted via snail mail today. Utah resident.

Congratulations. It sounds like letters are coming out now. I wish everyone from Utah good luck, and seven idaho residents good luck.

Just kidding. Good luck to everyone.

Another week down with no letter. I don't know if thats a good thing or a bad thing anymore.

I'm still waiting for a letter also. This wait is ridiculous. I'm getting more and more anxious everyday.

wait so does oos md/phd count as the total oos slots for the entering class?? does it count toward the 19 slots?

Anyone know how the match went last week for the U?

It is my understanding, yes. So it really means that there are about 16 OOS slotes

I hope it went better than last years.

I know this doesn't answer the question for this year, doesn't include everyone, doesn't show who went unmatched, and doesn't indicate their ranked preference, but it might be interesting anyway http://umed.med.utah.edu/residency/. Also at the bottom of the page, you can access spreadsheets to see individuals and their specific residency locations.

Anyone talk to the admissions office lately? I'm thinking about giving them a call tomorrow to see if they'll give me an idea of when we can expect to receive some news. This wait is killing me...

I'm curious to know how much of the class has been filled, or at least how many invitations have been sent. It would clarify what the wait actually means. . .

Called today... all of the letters will be out "by the end of the month"....

Well, I guess that probably means another week's wait for most everyone. Oh the joy of sitting and twiddling my thumbs waiting for an answer.

I also called today and was told the same thing. Anyone have any ideas on chances of an acceptance letter at this point? I seem to remember them saying at the interview that when final decisions are released to all those who haven't received any news, a fair amount of acceptances are given out, because up until this point, they award very few acceptances and give a lot of rejections. But at the same time, I have to think that a good chunk of the class is already filled by now. Any ideas?

I like this theory 🙂

Ha yeah hopefully there's some truth to it. I guess we'll find out soon enough. It sounds like we should receive that certain piece of mail we've all been waiting for by next Thursday or Friday at the latest. How many of you following this thread would definitely go the U if accepted?

I am going for sure if I get in. OOS though.

I'm interested to know from where your strong interest in the Univ. of Utah comes as an OOS applicant. There aren't too many spots for OOS students, especially if you're not from Idaho.

I will, even at the cost of my $2000 deposit 😛.

Yes, sir, but I suppose it would cost that much to move and everything anyway so I guess it's a wash.

Well and if you're sure on attending it doesn't really matter anyways since it'll be applied towards your tuition (at least I certainly hope so). But still, $2000 is crazy. The ones I've paid so far for other schools have been $25 and $100. Is the U's refundable up to a certain date like it is for many other schools?

Exactly. If I don't get in and go there, I get the $2000 back, so that's good. The U's deposit is refundable until 15 May last I knew.

If you think the wait is ridiculous you should look into taking Xanex. I know several people who were strung along till June for acceptance (Alternate list).

I'm definitely going. OOS as well. Already paid my deposit..

The deposit to hold your spot is $2000!?

$2000?! Where'd you get that from? Haha, sounds like someone got re-routed to another site & was swindled. The deposit is only $100, and refundable if you change your mind in May.

The deposit for the place I'm holding at another school, I meant.

O okay...gosh that's a lot to put down! But If you have to secure your seat for med school, then I would probably do the same.

I'm pretty sure a deposit like that would be for a D.O. school. They generally require a $2000 non-refundable deposit, whereas M.D. schools are typically $100 refundable.

I've heard similar things about D.O. school deposits - extremely expensive and generally non-refundable. Good to hear that the U's is refundable. Not that it will matter much, I'm 95% certain I'd go if accepted.

I'm definitely going if I get accepted. I'm also OOS.

I'm going there for certain if I get in. Absolutely no question in my mind.

This is it everybody. The final week is here at last and we will all finally know our status at the U. Good luck to everyone and here's hoping for some good news!

You can actually know if you got accepted by logging into the website where you filled in your secondary app. It'll say congratulations and give you additional options. Sorry if this spoils the surprise. But just for all of us anal retentives, its an option.

This is how I figured out how I was accepted. I didn't have to wait until after the weekend to get the good news.

This is true, except if the status has not changed it can be very depressing. The date is the 29th of March and my status has not changed, which means it probably won't. Ah well, I guess I will just accept not getting in to Utah.

I received a status change on my application page (3/11/10) a full four days before getting an acceptance in the mail...and I live 30 miles from the school. Take heart and good luck everyone!

I'm in the same situation, just checked my status page and no changes yet. Anyone think there's still hope at this point?
