is there a difference between the complete and small pooled status? i am still in the 6-8 weeks and wayyy over it..

ok, they have one day. if they don't deliver results tomorrow i'm calling their integrity into question. the anxiety is unbearable.
Maybe that's the message that shows up on the website for everyone once they're reviewed, and we're just in the position where they're not able to give us an official update until two weeks from now. Later in the season, they might live up to the "we'll contact you shortly" line.

Supposedly, the "small pool" message comes after the committee has met, looked at your application, and wants to consider you for an interview. It isn't a promise for an interview, but it's the next step I guess! I'm just hoping they are good about offering interviews to most of their small pool. It would make my semester to get an interview offer!

FWIW, I have the same message and I heard its a waitlist message. I know some people who have gotten a different message that is a rejection message. Just what I heard through the grapevine. But im usually right 🙂

I reallly really hope you are right! Love love love UVM 🙂

I called UVM today to inquire about the decisions and Patrick said "as far as I know, they will be sent out today." Oh man... it's gonna be a loooong day

Maybe it's a "hint hint" type of notice? I remember when I was applying to college, Cornell sent me this letter telling me how I was "very likely" gonna be accepted, and I got the actual acceptance package a few weeks later. It could be something like that.

The same guy who said to our group we'll get a decision before Oct 1?

It's past 6 PM EST... so I don't know about that

Hmmm... I guess they decided to abide by those stupid rules.

I'm ok with that, but please, next time they shouldn't get our hopes up and just tell us the way it is. :scared:

Anybody interviewing tomorrow?

*Frantically trying to go over my AMCAS today* 😱

Just thought I'd check out this thread because I was in your guys' shoes last year and I remember the anxiety. I'm a first year now at UVM and I love it. It's an incredible school.

Anyway, I know this won't be popular to hear, but basically the deal for me was that I submitted in the late summer/early fall, and didn't even get to interview until early March. Then, since I was OOS (from California), I got the waitlist (pretty much happens to everyone out of state, and definitely if you're out of New England). I didn't get in until May and after several letters of interest. All in all the whole process took almost a full year. Crazy, believe me, I know. I really almost lost it there a couple of times.

Bottom line: UVM is an outstanding school and I'm soooo grateful to be here, but their admissions process is insanely slow, especially if you're OOS. But don't let that discourage you, and try not to lose your marbles in the process...If you have any questions I can help with let me know.

Thats interesting you say that about OOS and New England. Do you think it makes a difference that even though I'm OOS and from CA, I did my undergrad in New England and basically told them I wanted to practice in Vermont ... as opposed to dude x from the west coast who just thinks its a sweet school?

maybe they do it like that on purpose so us OOSers don't see what it's really like in Vermont in the dead of winter. 😉

I interviewed at UVM and after talking with some members of their adcom, that MS1 is completely right... they waitlist pretty much every OOSer. They want to know that you legitimately want to go to Vermont and that you just didn't add it to rack up another interview. I think that if you truly want to go to Vermont, you'll be able to get in if you just get an interview and send follow up e-mails and such.

This is supported by last year's thread...look at what people did, and suffered through, to get accepted at Vermont.

Interviewed yesterday, love the school, the area, and the people, interview was so relaxed and stress-free

UVM just moved to the top of my list 😀:xf:

Hey guys-

Could someone please link me to the application status page? I'm having a hard time finding it. Thanks.

I can't believe they make OOS applicants wait so long for an interview. If they are testing my interest as an applicant, I'll be so angry! I paid the application fee, now take me out of the small pool and give me an interview invite!!! 😡

Almost all their applicants are OOS... you're not the only person who applied there! be patient, they interview until march

I submitted 8/24 and I'm still in preliminary review. Ugh. So frustrating.

Good to know about the OOS info, though. I won't hold my breath to hear anything from this school.

Hm. I'm not even in the small pool and I submitted the first week in August. Do you think expressing a strong interest in research on AMCAS would negatively affect an application here? I applied because I like the school and I really, really love Vermont as a place. I'm not stressed out that I haven't heard from them, but just wondering.

I've heard it takes a long time for OOS people to get an interview. Let's just hope they give each of us a chance to prove ourselves! :xf:

it seemed like the majority of us interviewing on tuesday were OOS.

you heard wrong.

UVM gets about 6000 applications a year, and only a handful from vermont (only about 30 VT people accepted in class of 2013). 10% of the apps get an interview (since they interview about 600). It probably takes a lot of time to process all of those apps so everyone should be patient!

I have had the "small pool" message for three weeks now. I REALLY would love an interivew, but I guess having a 3.8/3.7 and 29P aren't quite good enough! Has anyone else had to wait an extremely long time to get an invite while being in the small pool??? :scared:

I had a 28S (9 9 10) with a 3.7/3.65 and I am currently enrolled. Relax, focus on a good interview if/when you get one.

FWIW, 10/06 interview had like 4 out of 22 people from New England, rest were from CA/FL and everywhere else

I'm an OOS applicant and I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I know I am competitive at UVM so I anticipate the chance to interview soon! :luck:

you should take some time off sdn you are like tripping out

I'm an OOS applicant and...I know I am competitive at UVM.

Pray tell, how do you 'know' that you are competitive for UVM? As an OOS applicant? Do you live in a neighboring state with some sort of enrollment agreement? Or do you have strong ties to the state?

Only UVM can judge if you are "competitive" for them. This is a damn near impossible school to figure out...

There are actually 20 extra slots in the class allocated to out of state students this year because the program they had with Maine just ended.

Did not know that, but my guess is that they will continue to take a bunch of Mainers...which doesn't really help the rest of us.

Small-pooled today! First saw the complete message on 9/3.

I've been small pooled for at least 8 weeks.

got the small pool today. complete around 8/25. hoping for the invite!

Has anyone had an experience NOT going from complete to a small pool message? I was just small pooled and get the feeling that this is just the AdComm acknowledging that they have looked at your app and will make a decision sometime soon (ish)...

Yea, you have to log into their status page.

And no not everyone gets small pooled, people get rejected right after being reviewed. I'm not sure of the percentages of people that get interviews after the small pool but I think they are pretty good.
