Fair enough. He was really laid back and made me feel at ease, and I could tell he thoroughly read my file beforehand. He also recommended a book to me that ended up being ridiculously good lol. If you guys get interviewed by Dr. Sofferman, you're good to go. The guy is awesome.

Cheers,
JD

Interviewed: 10/26
Accepted: 12/18 (never waitlisted)

=)

the interwebs (email and status site), no phone call or letter....although I am in another country right now so they theoretically couldve called my cell and gotten scared by an operator speaking to them in spanish.

If you are accepted: Email as soon as it happens, updating the web site, and eventually a letter (I work in the same building, and went by as soon as I got my acceptance on the 18th, and they said the snail-mail letters would hopefully go out by the 23rd but because of the holiday break that they might not go until the 4th of January.) They definitely do not call though.

If you are simply waitlisted: They just updated the web site.

As for rejections, I never asked if they emailed and did the web site, or just did the web site.

Will they only accept a check to pay the $100? Is there any other way to pay it? Also, when they say "in writing" (to accept your spot) does that include email?

You can accept through e-mail.

You can do check or money order I believe.

Anyone have a hard time getting through to the admissions office? My status says that I have a hold due to coursework requirements. However, I have all of their requirements met. I emailed them and have tried to call, but I have yet to hear from anyone or talk to anyone.

My status says that I did not submit all my requirements in by their deadline as well.... except for the fact that I definitely DID. I looked over all their course requirements again because I thought maybe I missed something, but I have completed all of them. All of my recommendations have been in since August, and I finished their application and paid the fee I think in October at the latest. I don't get it??? I'm pretty annoyed and can't contact anyone...I would assume they're closed for new years. I would at least like my fee back!

UVM has been closed since December 23rd. I would call them back on Monday because that's when they're reopening.

I got through to the admissions office today. My hold is gone, and finally my status is changed!

"Your file is complete and has been preliminarily reviewed. You are within a pool of applicants from which an interview may be extended. Please note that this does not guarantee you will be offered an interview and you may not see an update to your status for several months.

You will be notified via email if you have been selected to interview.

Our interview season runs from September through April."

It's nice to get this at least. Because I don't feel like digging through all of the pages...do they move any faster once you have this? It took over 3 months to get a status change and then this message.

I had the same message for 2-3 month as well and then got an interview invite last monday, so its very much still possible

I received an interview invite this morning, and it's my first one. 😀

To anyone who is in the "small pool," do Not lose hope. I was in the pool for about 4 months. I was complete in August, and I just heard back today.

Yay! 🙂

Congratulations, LittleBun! It's good to hear that there's still hope for the long-time small poolers!

would sending an update letter help getting off small pooled??

I tried sending an update letter and was told that they are no longer accepting them.

Then, the admissions office staff member said that I should mention my updates if I'm interviewed. Thanks! 👍

So I just got my interview invite, but it's in march. Is there any way to tell how many open spots there are left or if I'm just interviewing for a wait list position?

I sent an update letter after my interview and they said they would add it to my file...got in a couple of weeks later

I just got an interview invite!!! and I have it in 2 Weeks😱

Just wondering. What did you mention in your update letter? I'm thinking about sending one, but I'm not sure what I should add. Thanks.

I wouldn't recommend sending a letter anymore (pre-interview). I tried to the other day and got yelled at saying they don't care unless you have been invited to interview.

How long did you have the 'small-pool' status before u got the invite?

I interviewed in December and was waitlisted approximately a week after. I was just thinking about sending in an update letter, but I'm not sure what I should put in it.

Basically I said: "Hey, I talked with my interviewer about the stuff I'm doing this year during my gap year, but here are more details. Oh and I heart UVM please let me in"

maybe a little more eloquent....

Just a reminder that there are at least 10 students in the class of 2013 who interviewed in March, some accepted ahead of February/January applicants.

I was small pooled awhile back at UVM. Does anyone know how they pull people from the pool to interview and if there's hope left? Also, any advice on how to increase chances? Thanks!

Hey guys-

Has anyone had luck with the "I'm having another interview in the area; could I schedule one with you if you would like to interview me anyway" approach here? I'm from Minneapolis, and I have an interview at NYMC on 03/16. I'd like to minimize my travel expenses, obviously. Thanks!

Dave

Just wanted to say I got my interview invite today!!! yippeee!

Haha, I just noticed I rhymed lol. And on a more serious note, any interview advice specific to UVM?

"Why UVM?" UVM interview was wicked relaxed, good luck! 👍

If you're a Californian, the question will be rephrased to, "Why do you want to leave California and come to our med school?"

Yes, send one.

Yes, send one.

Should I send one to NYMC and say that "I'm having another interview in the area; could I schedule one with you if you would like to interview me I'd like to minimize my travel expenses too since i will be flying to the east coast from the midwest.

I will be there the 21st and just wanted to know if anyone is interviewing on the 21st???

Hey everyone-

I just got an interview at the U of Vermont on March 11th and one at NYMC on March 16th. I was wondering what you guys think I should do for transport between the two colleges. I will be staying with my friend in Queens from the night after my Vermont interview until the night before NYMC's interview. Can anyone help me out? Has anyone done this? Thanks!

Dave

I will be wearing a black suit with a purple tie. What will you be wearing

Black suit with light pinstripes, + sliver/blue tie. I've heard great things about the school & after not hearing back for so long, I was expecting a rejection, so I'm really excited about the interview!

Has 'area emails' worked for anybody?

it did for me...sent one yesterday, got an invite today for 02/09. talk about a quick turnaround. they seem considerate and nice! so go ahead and send one if you are interviewing in the area.

To those that already visited this school, what did you guys like about it? anything special about the curriculum? faculty?

The cirriculum is very well set up...everything is integrated. The UVM technology is nearly perfect. Even the smaller study rooms come equipped with "smart boards," which are great for group studying.

The Fletcher Allen hospital is beautiful as well, and everything appears very new.
