To those that already visited this school, what did you guys like about it? anything special about the curriculum? faculty?

they are very proud of the Vermont Integrated Curriculum, as they have a right to be.... they were basically one of the first allo schools to move to the systems/block based format that nearly every other school has moved to since, or is in the process of doing so, or will be shortly. COMET is the online curriculum database and it is VERY impressive: every path/rad slide you could ever want is at your fingertips so long as you have broadband access. They're not P/F but the H/P/F system has very favorable cutoffs and students seem very very happy. the high USNEWS ranking for primary care is deserved as well, the clinical training for those specialities is a particular strength.

I liked the way the curriculum was organized - I felt like it was the perfect way for me to learn. All the facilities were great. The students I stayed with and talked to were all very nice. I liked that you test before the end of second year and it gives you more elective time later.

Thanks for the info, it was helpful. Does anybody have a link where I could read more about the school?
Well, I have an interview coming up in Feb. Although I've been looking over stuff from interview feedback, there weren't that many for this year's cycle. I would be glad if anybody who has interviewed here could share about their experience...like how did your interview go? Did your interviewer mainly ask you questions from your application, or emphasized on current events (health care, etc)?
I'm oos btw.

interview invite today...months months months after small pooled.

set for first week of March... I think I remember hearing there is still a good chance at Vermont even late in the season...can anyone confirm this?

Did anyone have a rough interview here? My interviewer (she) was incredibly condescending and rude.. it really through off the rest of the interview day.

I interviewed at vermont in early October. Here are some questions they asked me:

1. What was the last book you read? 2. What are you planning to do in your year off? 3. Tell me about your research. What makes it significant if you were to write a grant about it. 4. Why is your verbal a little lower than your other subjects? (not really an issue) 5. What is your biggest success and failure?
6. What experience in the E.R. or shadowing was most memorable to you? 7. Discuss about what you wrote in your personal statement.

8. Since you are from California, why do you want to attend Vermont? (You better have a very good answer since this question, I felt, can make or break you. My interviewer was impressed with my response and I thought it helped me get in).

I hope this will helps. Definately read about VIC curriculum. Good luck! 🙂

theres already a facebook group UVM COM class of 2014 for those who are attending

i can confirm that students say plenty of people get in every year from March interviews, and I really don't think it's a disadvantage to interview here in the spring at all... UVM is all about building a class and if you get an interview you can bet they are considering you for a seat in it.

Awesome. Thanks for the response.

Anyone have any luck getting a student host? I've been trying all week and everyone on the list hasn't been able to. Any UVM med students able to accommodate an interviewee March 3-March 4? If so, please PM me i'd really appreciate it!!

Me either. I'm looking for a host from Feb 10-12. I've only emailed one person so far though...

When I interviewed back in Oct, I had to ask like 5 people before one person said yes to host, FYI

I've e-mailed like 7-8 ppl already, i think 5 have said they can't and the other 2 haven't responded. Sigh...

If you've been small-pooled, is there any way of sending Vermont an update as to why you would want to attend the University of Vermont School of Medicine, and what you specifically like about UVM? Just got the small-pool update status today.

UVM is highly receptive to applicants who send letters of interest. So I recommend doing that.

I wrote to them after being in the small pool for about 2 months and I've yet to here anything back. I 😍 UVM so I'm really hoping it will work.

I was just curious if anyone knows roughly the average MCAT/GPA of a out of state matriculant for UVM?

I know their out of state numbers are high because vermont is small...but what about applicants from the midwest?

I was thinking of sending one but I don't know anymore. I called up the admissions office and they say that they dont accept update letters. Where would you recommend addressing one to?

I sent one a couple months ago and received an invite recently. Not sure if the letter was a factor in getting an int, but they said it would be added to my file. I just emailed the admissions office.

UVM does not accept updates but they do accept letter of interests (Why do you want to go to UVM?).

does anyone know how long it usually takes between when you interview and when they get back to you?

UVM comet rocks!!!

never lose another important document again! never take a pencil paper note again! 👍

So is COMET like the website where students can access all the study materials they need? I'd appreciate if someone could expand a little more on it. Thanks

Their response time is totally based on when their committee meets - so if you interview right before their committee meets, you can hear within days (literally - a friend of mine from a few years ago heard within 3 days) or you can wait nearly two months (I waited about 7 weeks). At my interview they told us when the next committee meeting date was, so I knew when to expect to hear - ask if you interview, and I'll bet they will tell you.

I'll give you my experience, but I am in-state, so I am sure you will get a question about why VT since you are oos.

My interview was extremely relaxed - the first question was: "Why do you want to be a physician?" and from there it was a lot of questions about my application - really though it was more of a discussion about my application.

I will point out that the interviewers do NOT have access to your letters - their rationale is that they don't want the interviewer to be able to surprise you with something from your letter that you have not seen, which is part of their relaxed interviewing strategy. They have a second person who fully reviews your file, including letters, that presents your file at the committee meeting at the same time the interviewer presents their impressions.

For most oos interviewees, the majority will be placed on the UVM "out-of-area" waitlist. Thus, I highly recommend after your interview, whether your staying in your hotel or when your flying back home, to type up a letter expressing your interest (COMET, VIC, Burlington, etc.) in UVM. I say this because your thoughts are most fresh after the interview. Of course, other oos applicants have been accepted without writing a letter, but sending one wouldn't hurt you either.

UVM said that they are going to open up COMET up to accepted students around early February. 👍

small pooled today! i was complete pretty late, end of october/beginning of november. the website says they interview through april, so like all my other schools i'm cautiously optimistic. :xf:

i've seen so many different things about update letters/letters of interest. i guess the consensus is that "update letters" aren't accepted, but "letters of interest" are? so basically I could just write them a letter saying I love x, y, and z about UVM, please interview me?

Which e-mail address do you send interest letters to? (or did you use the Message Center in its Online Application?)

Cancelling my interview due to another acceptance.

I hope someone deserving gets it!

Hi
How many of you guys have gone from OOS wiatlist-> accepted?
Thanks

does anyone know anything about pass stats for Step1/ is there any disadvantage to taking the boards early? i know the advantages, but i'm afraid it can also hinder a student from doing well...

isn't every school fond of trotting out this statistic? it seems like every LCME accredited school is above average 🙄

seriously though, this came up at my interview lunch and students stated that they were happy with their scores and felt that they had been given adequate time and preparation to do well. essentially the entire month of February MSII is given over to step I study: you can take the review course that they offer, or do it on your own, and you can schedule the exam whenever you want during that month. if you feel you're ready the first week, you can get it over and done with and then have the whole month to do other things.

One of my favorite aspects of UVM COM is that it is located 1 min away from the undergrad institution. This is a huge plus!

Maybe that was me, found my invite on my status page this morning. My first post here, but since I benefit from hearing good news, I thought I would post it. I have been small-pooled since Sept. OOS. Still hope for those of us that have been waiting to hear from UVM. :luck:

Interviewed 1/19/10, and now my status on the online applicant center says, "Your file has been reviewed by the Admissions Committee. We will be contacting you shortly regarding the status of your application."

ACK! I wonder how shortly is "shortly."

I interviewed on the same day--they told us during the orientation that decisions would be made February 2nd and they would communicate the decision to us sometime in the two weeks following, so we should expect to hear sometime before February 16th.

Thanks Purkinje123 for the info! 🙂 Another two weeks of waiting ... ... :scared:

sorry to break the link, but anyone interviewing on 2/9 arriving a day early to check out the place?

I got an invite! March 16th!!! Yes!!! I'm OOS and I had a 29 MCAT, I never thought I'd get an invite here!! I was small pooled back in mid December!

I sent them an email on 1-29 asking if they accept updates or new transcripts, but they don't.. They I had a short correspondence expressing my continued interest in their school and interview, and four days later (2-5) I received an invite! Incredible! 🙂 My firsts interview! Will anyone else be there on the 16th? 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀

I'll definitely be staying with a student host! The plane ticket from CA is going to kill me! Yeah, I am sure I will be getting "Why UVM" "You're coming from California...."

I will be there on the 16th! And I'm staying with two first years! I'm really excited!!!!!
