do you know how they contact us? I'm in the same boat...

Accepted = phone call and email (I'm pretty sure)

Waitlist = Update on website, no notification

Rejected = No idea

Keep checking that website! I checked it by chance a month after my interview and noticed I was waitlisted, and was shocked that there was no email notification.

Changed my interview date for the 4th of March! I'm planning on staying into the weekend, anyone else interviewing this day?!🙂

I understand that those on the waitlist could come off at any time. I was waitlisted in November. What date does UVM fill there class by?

Letter of Interest added to my file on Friday and an interview invite today!

To those that have visited Burlington, what did you guys like about the city? I know there's a lot of outdoor options but anything else interesting? how are the restaurants, shops, ppl, etc...?

very progressive, liberal. lots of nice restaurants and jazz bars, store types are your american apparels, banana republics, urban outfitters types. downtown main/church st. is somewhat similar to downtown charleston if you're familiar with the area. very quaint, nice. the people are great as well, lots to do on the weekends when you're not in class. UVM students can use the city's bus system for free which is a bonus.

Congratulations. I can never understand what people write about in their letter of interest. I have no connection to UVM, never been to vermont, only know whats on their website and msar. How can I possibly write something worthwhile?

Usually 95% done by early/mid-July.

The last vacancy for the class of 2013 was filled on August 5th, 2009.

EEK. Interviewed 1/19. Waitlisted today. Check your Online Applicant Center! It should have your status there today. 🙂

It was the first time I've done this...I just wrote an email with 3 brief paragraphs noting points of the curriculum/philosophy of UVM that I like and how I fit with those. ...I also stated that UVM was my top choice.

Also, I'm OOS and have never been farther east than Ohio. Fortunately, I can read, and the website has some decent info. Good luck!

joining all of the waitlisters....from what i have heard, almost every oos applicant gets waitlisted before acceptance (or rejection)...i don't think i've heard of anyone getting a straight decision...

i was told that the vast majority of oos gets waitlisted (even if just for a day) before getting a change in status. but i know of some that have been lucky enough to not get on the wait list even if oos

I thought the same thing...until I got out-right accepted as an OOS. So I think its all random but the majority of OSSers do get waitlisted.

Hey Oze, if you don't mind, what were your dates of application, interview, acceptance?

or anyone else who eventually received an acceptance...i really loved UVM and just want to know what kind of wait i'm facing (i know august is a possibility, rejection or otherwise)...

interviewed late october
accepted mid december ish?

OOS but was lucky enough to not be placed on the wait list

complete early august, interviewed mid november, heard back mid december

UVM is hands down my top pick. I have spent week after countless week there since I was young, and I LOVE the state as well as the school. I sent a letter of INTENT (and interest necessarily) after being wait listed in late December. After not hearing back for about a month I contacted the office and found out that they'd placed the letter in an obscure envelope during winter break! Thus, even if the committee did meet to possibly pull me off the waitlist - they NEVER saw the letter. Ah well.

Now, having sent a letter already I am not sure how long to wait to send another. My next letter will be an "update" letter, as this information was not included in my letter of intent. The students at the school seemed to indicate that UVM responds well to enthusiastic letters ...

Anyway, I'm not sure whether to wait another week or two to send the next letter (seeing as they just added my first letter to my packet) or just to charge onward?

*sigh*

I am pretty sure they won't say, "This guy sent a letter of interest and an update letter within a week of each other. We shouldn't let him in."

Interviewed yesterday. They said we wouldn't hear back until 6-8 weeks? Does it usually take that long or is that something they just say? I know the adcom meets once a month and I believe they just met a couple of days ago

I have an interview coming up here and I am completely excited!! I love UVM and think Burlington would be an awesome place to spend four years in med school.

I have three logistical questions - I apologize if these have been answered elsewhere in this thread (I only skimmed it).

First, can anyone provide a rundown of the interview day activities? I think I'm supposed to get there at 9 or something like that, but my interview isn't until 3... what happens all day? And how many people will be in the interview group? Thanks in advance!

Second, I need to catch a bus after my interview. How far is UVM from the Greyhound bus station? Is it walkable, or is there an affordable taxi/public transit option?

Last, how snowy is it up there now and is it okay to show up for the interview in heels? (usually not practical in VT in the winter I know, but I'm assuming this is just what happens for interviews and it all works out).

Thanks so much for any help!!

1) You'll arrive at 9 and wait for a little bit outside the admissions offices until everybody has arrived. They'll then lead you to the conference room where the presentations will take place. These presentations took a while so be prepared. After the meeting is a lunch with current med students, which is really relaxed and is your chance to ask them anything about what UVM is really like. The students will then give you a tour of the facilities. Depending on your interview time, you'll either interview right after the tour or have a little break, during which, you may opt for a tour of the hospital (at least this was true for my group). I think my group was about 20 people.

2) The greyhound bus station is not walkable from UVM. You'll have to take a taxi which will cost you about $8.

3) As for the weather, it actually hasn't been too bad this year. We've escaped most of the major storms and haven't gotten a lot of snow. I guess it's up to you on what you want to wear. It will probably be cold although you never know since this year's winter has been really mild.

Hope this helps!

Accepted today. Interviewed 10/6, OOS waitlisted 12/18.
Probably going to withdraw through.

I enjoyed the small town, the view of Lake Champlain from the University nestled on the hill, the history of the area, and the snow skiing/boarding at Jay peak.

it's a 2 mile walk, maybe less, all downhill. so it depends on what you'd consider walkable (perhaps not in heels!) it's straightforward and quite safe, if you're up for it. there are also busses, which cost $1.25

no snow to speak of here now, and heels would be fine today. snow is possible any given day from now through the end of the interview season, though...

OOS, finished secondary early september, invited on 11/2 for an interview on 1/14. updated online on 2/11 as "waitlisted" - sent an "affirmation of interest" letter today.

best of luck, y'all!

I know that there is still a decent chance of getting in with a March interview, but I was wondering if anyone knows how full the class is so far. Has anyone heard this while they were at their interview?

For those of you who have sent in update/letter of interest, what email did you use or did you send in a hard copy?

I just emailed the main email for the admissions office and I got a reply a few days later saying they had added it to my file. Oh and I attached the letter as a .pdf I think - makes their lives easier.

update, just got an offer of acceptance (email) today. i sent my leter of interest yesterday, they didn't even aknowledge it - my guess is i was just waitlisted before acceptance as on out of stater - i had heard that may happen. i plan on accepting and attending this fall. good luck everyone! see ya in august!

So I sent a letter of interest here a few weeks ago via snail mail. They haven't said anything about having received it. Should I bug them and ask if they got it back in DECEMBER? :scared:

Would it be okay to email to the admissions office as well as my interviewer? I've exchanged a couple emails with my interviewer after my interview. Just wondering...

i interviewed 1/14 and got waitlisted last thursday? friday? up a couple of posts back is my full time-line...at my interview it seemed like everyone? got waitlisted at least for a few days...

Hey do you think that arriving at 4pm the day before and leaving at 5pm the day of the interview is enough time to get a good look at UVM and Burlington. I mean, its fine if I'm just handling business, but its obviously not if I want to explore. Would you recommend coming back a day later, or coming a day earlier? What did you guys do when you were there? I'm trying to decide whether or not to add an extra day, turn it into a mini break. But I'm not going to know anyone, so it'll be a little weird. I interview March 16th.

Thanks!

🙂

I basically had that schedule. Before everyone dispersed I asked if anyone wanted to go to Church St for a beer. People did; it worked out

Everyone says that UVM offers interview invites pretty late in the application process. I have been complete since September... do I still have a chance to be interviewed? How many more interview spots are left at this point?

I'll be interviewing March 4th, but I'm arriving around 4:00PM on the 3rd and staying until Saturday afternoon. If anyone is in town we should explore Burlington together! Yay! My first interview 😀

Interview invite for March 11th! I received a response to my in-the-area email within two weeks. I know it's a long shot, but anyone interviewing March 9th willing to switch with me? Admissions has open spots on the 23rd and 25th as well. ...I'll likely move my interview back a few weeks.

Does anybody have #'s on how many acceptances are offered out of the 600 applicants that are interviewed?
