Interview invite today 11/17/09 (scheduled for 2/25/10).

To be honest I'm not 100% sure when I was complete (there was no specific e-mail or clear date on the status page I could find), but I submitted the secondary and all necessary materials on 10/15.

Good luck to everyone else.

I called the admissions office today. Patrick, the guy who picked up the phone, just said it straightforwardly...not everyone gets small pooled, but thousands do. From the thousands in the small pool, 600-700 get interviews.

According to him, at this stage, pre-interview, it would not help much to send in a letter of interest. Only at post-interview would it make a difference.

He couldn't give me any more information, and seemed a bit annoyed. So I didn't want to push it. I'm pretty sure many people call in asking the same question. But the wait will be until February, which is when they send out their last batches of interviews. They are a little less than half-way with giving out interviews. So yeppppp...we'll just have to wait a little longer, guys. Hang in there!🙂

Thanks for sharing the info! Good to know.

Thanks so much for sharing this! I'm not sure if it eases my mind or makes me worry more... haha.

Does anyone know if there are advantages for taking the Step 1 in Feb for UVM, as compare to May/June in other medical schools?

They're the only school in the country to do it, and they're damned proud of it (from talking to students/profs during the interview day)

Basically it lets you start clinical rotations sooner. The med students I talked to all said they nailed Step 1, and honestly didn't see how you could string out everything for another few months during year 2

Interview invite a few days ago! Complete early September...

small pooled today...does anyone know of anybody who has been rejected preinterview...it seems like they small pool or interview

they do reject some but the small pool is quite large, someone above called and they said they pool thousands and 600-700 eventually get interviews. so it's good, but not great news.

UVA does this too. M3 starts in March/April if I remember correctly.

i'm still not even complete yet and it's been 3 months

Does anybody have an inkling as to when the committee meets again?

UVM is awesome! 😎

I just got an interview invite!!!! They scheduled me for 12/10, but I'm not sure if I want to reschedule or not. complete 10/7, small pooled 10/30

I'm writing UVM a letter of interest (I'm on the waitlist and I love the school) and don't know who to send the letter to...and whether i should snail mail it or email it?

Can anyone who has already sent in a letter give me some advice? Thanks!

On the online update, where they tell you that you are waitlisted, there is an email address below.

how long should the letter of intent be?

of intent? not long - just enough to say you'd withdraw from everywhere else if given a spot in their class and two or three reasons why you think UVM is the best fit for you.

Has anyone been moved to the small pool or offered an interview if your application has been under preliminary review for more than 8 weeks? I'm at about 10 weeks and with many people having moved from complete to the small pool pretty quickly, it would be nice to know if there are some people who have been in a similar situation and had things turn out favorably or if it's relatively hopeless at this point. Thanks in advance for any replies.

I noticed today that I've been moved to the "small pool" after like 10+ weeks of the prelim review status.

I'm on waitlist here and sent a LOI a few weeks ago. I really hope they throw me an invite when they go through their applications again, seemed like a great school.

Assuming I'm still on waitlist come Feb / March, can I send another LoI? Is that in bad taste?

I'm not speaking for Vermont specifically, because I don't know that much about the school, but I would say if you're still on the waitlist in the spring, sending another LOI would be a good idea. A lot can happen between now and then, and I'm sure it will help you to show them that you're still interested. If you don't send anything, they might assume you've moved on. As long as it's well-written, the worst they can do is ignore it. I can't picture them being like "We don't want this kid, he wants to come here too badly!" But I understand your concern, considering that some schools don't accept any updates or letters post-interview.

UVM does - I sent an update letter post-interview pre-waitlist (well..I assume waitlist since I'm OOS and all OOSers pretty much are waitlisted)

Hey Guys,

So question is this "small pool" you speak of providing you with this message:

Dear Toescrossed,

Your file is complete and has been preliminarily reviewed. You are within a pool of applicants from which an interview may be extended. Please note that this does not guarantee you will be offered an interview and you may not see an update to your status for several months.

You will be notified via email if you have been selected to interview.

....
Or am I in a larger pool?

Thanks!

Yeah, you're in the 'small pool' many others are in.

Whoooooo! Small-pooled today! Secondary complete 9/11.

Anyone get off the waitlist recently?

to my surprise, i've also joined the small pool. who knows if anything will happen this late though?

for those who are curious/ still waiting- it took me over 3 months to get from 'preliminary review of 6-8 weeks' to a status change. keep an eye on your status changes too- mine actually changed to 'your file is on HOLD due to questions regarding prereqs.' i emailed them, answered their questions, and was moved to the small pool. had i not been checking my status regularly i could have been on hold indefinitely.

Anyone out of state who interviewed, and has not been put on the wait list?

I interviewed around the beginning of October and a few weeks ago my status changed to: "We are pleased to inform you that your name has been placed on the Out-of-Area waitlist of qualified/alternate candidates."

I'm wondering if they put everyone on the waitlist who's out of state? Lol hope so.

I interviewed in november and haven't heard anything yet. Has anyone heard anything from november? Also, for out of state people, does anyone get accepted right away, or do you have to be waitlisted first?

I was so ready to complain about my 6-8 months i mean weeks status when i logged in to double check and i am outa here..

That's what Im wondering too

This is speculation / me trying to remember information from my end of October interview. I had heard that the committee was only going to meet minimally in November and December (if they did in fact meet). I was put on wait list from my October interview, and so was every other OOS I've seen post. However, I have seen a few OOS accepted off wait list (they had September interviews) and one OOS accepted with out being on the list.

So, I would expect a wait list / decisions come mid December or into January.

what did you mean by this? rejection?

yup..

Dear OneMCATAway:

We have reviewed your application and regret to inform you that we cannot act favorably on your request for admission.

The University of Vermont College of Medicine received a large number of applications this year but has a very limited number of places in the first year class. It is necessary for us to make a decision based on the careful review of the complete application file.

You may wish to consult with your pre-medical advisor or career counselor for assistance in evaluation of your file and the appropriate next steps.

We appreciate your interest in the University of Vermont College of Medicine and wish you the best in the future.

good luck to everyone still waiting..

This seems kinda harsh. I also hate the whole "if you need advice on improving your app . . . " blah blah.

Why can't they have the nice rejection like everyone else: "We have so many great applicants that we can't even get through them all, and that doesn't mean you're not great, so good luck!"

thanks guys! i agree the letter is not written with much effort but then again i would imagine they are busy keeping their 6-8 month deadline 😉

i wonder if they were gonna send this letter in the mail?!! btw am i the only one here?

Its been like almost 11 weeks now since I have been complete. Has anyone been rejected pre-interview yet. Or has anyone been offered an interview after waiting 10+ weeks yet.

small pooled today, or within the past few days (haven't checked in a while)

complete early september.....3 months ago. keep up the hope for those who haven't heard yet. the 6-8 week deadline might be a load of trash and just there to keep people from badgering them.
