wow got my acceptance letter. really stoked about this school.
uva definitely made it to the top of my list after my visit!

Sorry hadn't seen this yet when I posted. They say they want a BLS card scanned on both sides I think. Maybe they just give a BLS card to you if you can prove you've completed CPR and AED?

I have a BLS card through the American Heart Association. It says that I've completed the requirements for CPR and AED (I got it through a medical training program I did for work), so I had assumed it was the same as a CPR class at the Red Cross. Maybe those of you who need it can call the Red Cross and/or the school to see if it's the same?

I think I found a good website for online BLS certification;
http://www.emergencycourses.com/courses/bls/online_bls.cfm

Anyone else used this site? Sounds like a pain to have to take the course online and then later take the practical skills exam at a test center...guess it is better than sitting through a whole class though at a test center.

Can anyone vouch for that site?

Has anyone recently recieved interview invites? And does anyone know what the approximate timeline is to go from complete to invite?

I have the same question as above. I've been complete for three months. Is there any chance that I'll even get an interview?!

I received an invite a few weeks ago. I had been complete for a little over a month.

I was complete in late July. Are there still interviews being given out or is that a rejection by now?

I think it is still way too early for that conclusion to be drawn.

Look at last year's thread - which is thinner than this year's, though - for guidance. People were getting invites after the first of the year...

Yeah according to last year's thread they were interviewing as late as march. I do wish I had applied earlier though...this is probably the interview I'm looking forward to the most. Hope they like me.

Can I make a 5:15 PM flight after the interview? I assume this is a pretty small airport...

The airport is tiny (8 gates I think?). If you dont' want to hear the finaid talk, then you should be out in time.

If you get one of the early interview sets, you'll be done by 4, and they'll even call a cab for you. I got done by like 4:30 and made it to the greyhound station in time for my 5:30 bus, so I'm sure you can manage.

I've got my interview a week from today. very excited! Does anyone have any specific advice for UVA/ things to expect on interview day?

Does anyone have any specific advice for UVA/ things to expect on interview day?

It's a chill day with an EXCELLENT lunch 😀

Some interviewers will ask you tough health policy questions (at least they did on my interview day) so be up to date on all the issues around health care reform, shortages of primary care physicians, and the rising cost of health care.

And be able to really verbalize why you want to go to UVA, because my interviewers had spent the majority of their careers there and were in love with the university.

Good luck!!! :luck:

So I was complete here 9/14, do you think it would be okay to call for a status update?

Allow extra time to find the admissions office or get a student host to point you in the right direction. I showed up with a detailed Google map and campus map but still had a hard time. I approached from the wrong direction and ended up asking some doctor smoking (!) in this weird parking lot/loading dock area for guidance before finally stumbling into the admissions office a**-backwards.

Other advice: stay for the financial aid session (the fin aid guy there gives a surprisingly interesting and informative presentation that will help you understand the money end of this process, regardless of where you end up); and leave room for dessert! It's yummy.

Hi all,

Anyone got an interview lately? I'm still waiting to hear something, and I was complete late August. Looks like a lot of people look at this thread, but not many post.

Speak up...

Any interviews, rejections, acceptances?

Out of state or instate???😳

In-state, complete 1st/2nd week of September... silence from UVA!

got an invite for interview today, pretty stoked! 🙂 complete 10/21 as I added this school after a wave of not so great news.😳

Are you instate or out-of-state?

was the bad news basically a few rejections?

if so, this must be great news! You got the invite really quick, so you must have some killer stats...

Props.

Also, GBC, was the invite by email or snail mail?

I got an interview invite today! It was e-mailed.

Charlottesville is my favorite city ever, so I'm really excited about this.

I also got an interview today. Does anyone know if they are friendly with changing interview dates? I don't have a car and the tickets are super expensive to fly into Charlottesville (sp?) from where I am at ($600 one way). Or if anyone is able to find much cheaper tickets please post. I want to do over holiday to use my parents car. Also, what is their grading policy here?

Yeah, they're super nice about changing dates. I had a personal conflict when I was scheduled, so I e-mailed, and she said that's fine and offered me a new date.

It was rather expensive from where I am too, so I flew into Charlottesville, took a bus up to DC, and then flew back from DC. Shaved like $275 off my plane ticket cost.

They're pass/fail for the first two years. Not sure the scale after that.

Does anyone know how anatomy is going to work into the new curriculum?
What do you mean by "work"? I looked at the curriculum outline they had given us in our interview folders and looking at the course names, I think we'd start anatomy in January? Is that what you meant?

The Richmond airport is 90 mins away, and JetBlue serves it so there are competitive prices for certain routes.

And Dulles airport is about 2 hours away, and it has several discount airlines like JetBlue, Southwest, Airtran.

You will have to rent a car, but the overall cost savings will make it worthwhile.

Where are your parents? (to use their car.)

Don't forget to include "DCA" or even "BWI" in your flight search. Although Dulles is closest to Charlottesville, it's also the most expensive tickets, it may be worth it to search these others. And remember to get the best fares, you'll want advance purchase, stay over a Saturday, etc.

Coming from Florida, look at Airtran, which services Richmond, which is an easy drive, and Hertz doesn't charge for under-25: https://www.hertz.com/rentacar/specialoffers/index.jsp?targetPage=under25feewaived.jsp

For examples, I just looked and saw $69 e/w from Atlanta to Richmond, $80 e/w Jax to Richmond, $74 e/w from Miami at various dates.

Don't forget to check Amtrak - there's some direct train service to Charlottesville, (station CVS) and there's bus connectors from Union Station (DC.) The train isn't the fastest way to go, but can be relatively cheap, especially if you buy well in advance, and/or can find a discount code to use, and the train station is like a half-mile from the hospital, not much further than the parking garage, so you wouldn't need to rent a car.

Finally, there's Greyhound bus - think you have to buy far in advance to get the best deal. And, uh, 24 hours on a bus? Just ick.

Oh, and holiday travel wil def. be more expensive.

To fly into Richmond, BWI, Washington, would mean I still need to drive to Charlottesville. This is the main problem. This is why I need a car. So flying into these places is useless. Does a train go to Charlottesville? And I would rather not rent a car because I am under 25 and would only end up making it the same amount to just fly into Charlottesville. So, I changed the date. This makes me think twice about living there. I am so used to living in a city with great airport and transportation.

People who live in Charlottesville have fantastic travel options with RIC and Dulles both within 2 hours...at Dulles, you can catch cheap nonstops all over the country and to Europe...RIC has JetBlue and Airtran, and I recently flew the JetBlue nonstop to NYC for $150 roundtrip. And there is always the local airport CHO, but the options are limited and the prices are not usually competitive with RIC and IAD.

Yes, there is AMTRAK in C'ville, and it is served by 2 of the major routes - one that links NYC and New Orleans, and one that goes to Chicago...

Flying into Dulles or RIC is not useless for you unless a one day car rental costs you > $400...surely even with the surcharge you could get a one day rental at RIC or IAD for under $100...

Yeah, that's what I meant. The other systems-based curriculums I've seen have it where Anatomy is one block at the very beginning, and then you move on to the other systems. I didn't see how it was going to fit in to UVAs curriculum, so I was wondering if anyone else knew.

Someone linked above to Hertz, which you can rent without paying a surcharge for under 25. And you can take a bus from Washington to Charlottesville... I rode on the Greyhound and it cost me like $12 one-way.

If C'ville is your origin or destination, IAD is MUCH more convenient. It is physically closer, and the travel time is right around 2 hours no matter what the traffic is (this is because Cville is SW of DC, and IAD is in the far western suburbs of DC, so you do not get tangled up in DC metro traffic except for maybe the last 10 to 15 miles of the trip).

DCA is 2.5 hours in good traffic, and can be over 3 hours in bad traffic. And BWI is 3.5 hours in good traffic, but can be well over 4 hours on a bad day...no matter how you slice it, IAD is the winner for Charlottesville.

And I have found that the airfares at Dulles are very competitive with these others, so not sure where you get the "most expensive tickets" thing...there will always be exceptions, but airfares in/out of IAD have been very competitive for years since Southwest, Airtran, and JetBlue got there.

Obviously, it depends on your destination, and who's flying the particular route - if your destination isn't served by a low-cost carrier, BWI is usually the cheapest, DCA pretty variable, and IAD the most expensive. If your destination is served by Jet Blue or Southwest, great, but if not, BWI can be far cheaper; similarly, EWR is far cheaper than LGA, it's just the way it is.

For example - I went to expedia, and searched for a r/t to Miami leaving 11/12 returning 11/13 - best fares:

IAD - $353
BWI - $267.91

There've been times I've saved over $500 by flying from BWI, on the same carrier. I live like 5 minutes from IAD, so I can't say I like this.

But I agree, BWI is *way* out for a Charlottesville trip, and DCA would depend on the time of day/day of week. BWI does have the advantage of an Amtrak station.

Anyway, like I said, Amtrak or Richmond would work best for convenience (outside of the very expensive CHO -- R.I.P. Independence Air - it was almost cheaper to fly to CHO than drive. But I digress.)

The OP doesn't want to rent a car, so that leaves Amtrak.

Anybody else been complete since August and heard nothing? I have a number of schools in this category and am wondering what's going on.

Rejected via snailmail - but I'm pretty happy about this because my heart lies with another school. As my undergrad alma mater, this would have been a tough decision.

Everything happens for a reason. 👍

Sorry to hear it, Nontrad. Snailmail, huh? I guess I better check my box for the thin envelope tomorrow. I assume you got it Friday or Saturday.

I'll take that as a yes 😉

I've been waiting since late September, but I guess I have a lot longer wait than I expected... Has anyone complete since September or later received interview invite or rejection? Either way I want a decision!!!
Getting a little anxious here...😉

I've been complete since mid-September and have heard nothing yet. 😕

accepted today! Super pumped, I really liked this school and the town.

Thanks! I'm OOS. Interviewed last Wednesday (11/11). Was super surprised to hear back so soon. They said we should expect something next week.

If you don't mind me asking, when were you complete and when did you get your interview invite?
