man this school is amazing...I really didnt know what to expect coming from cali but wow this school impressed me more then any of the other schools ive been too. I never thought id say this but i think i have my number one choice now. about how long does it take for them to get back to you? I know they said 6 weeks or so but does it happen sooner often? Maybe you guys from UW would know more then me. Hope i get good news...this school is amazing.

Wow congrats to all of you who got accepted!
One question, did you guys send out LOI's? Does UofWisconsin accept LOI's?

I asked and they said they do not. They want to maintain a fair admissions process. Now do they accept updates?

I was told by the admissions office that they do not accept letters of update. Your only chance to give updates is at your interview (if you're invited, obviously 🙂).

they dont accept updates at all they said on my interview day. Its as the person above said only can you update at your actual interview thats all

Oops. I didn't realize that there was a whole new page that addressed this question.

Disregard this post.

Dangit, i just wrote and printed my LoI. Good thing I randomly decided to check this thread before mailing.

Thanks for the information 👍

Congratulations Buffy! I am trying to start a thread for accepted people who will definitely go. I know it's early, but figuring out some stuff now would be pretty cool. I looked at the orientation packet online as the acceptance letter said, and it was pretty sweet. Especially regarding books; it basically says with med students used which books for respective classes...saving money is my friend!!

Did you make this thread? Unless a different school gives me a full scholarship I am coming to Madison. 😀

Yeah I started it. It's "University of Wisconsin-Madison class of 2014," or something close to this.

100% agree 👍 Let us know when you get a response!

I interviewed on that date and haven't heard back yet. I have a mild panic attack every time I walk to the mailbox.. so, hopefully soon! 🙂

interviewed Nov. 6th, the wait to find out if i got in or not is going to be a killer.

Oct 2 interview - denied -

Good luck!

Waitlisted. Boo.

Interviewed 10/16, 34/3.9 IS. Go figure. Good luck everyone else! At least they only make us wait 4-6 weeks to hear.

I'm sorry to hear that, that sucks. Good luck with your other apps doc2014 and good luck getting off the waitlist Wheee, let us know how it goes. Wow, that you guys have good stats and got rejected/waitlisted is making me really nervous for my decision. Although I really tried not to have a favorite or top school, once I got to my UW interview day I was totally hooked. So now if I get rejected it's going to hurt so much worse 🙁.

Sorry to hear the news re: rejections/waitlist.

For those who are waitlisted, last year the Ad Comm reviewed its list in December and made some offers (see last year's app thread). Can't say they will do this again this year, but there is always the possibility.

:luck: Good luck to all, whether it is with your app here or elsewhere...

doc2014 and Wheee how does your extra curricular activities look? your mcat and gpa are equal to mine and i am an in-state student as well. really hoping to get in to madison.

I like to think they're good...could probably use a little more shadowing, but I had enough to talk about when she asked. Good research, volunteering, and plenty of fun/well-roundedness. I don't know how my committee letter is but it was good enough to get me in somewhere else. Maybe there's something missing on mine that you have and you'll get in though :luck:

Crelal, thanks for letting us know about that. I'm keeping the dream alive! Here's to hoping there's a lot of waitlist movement...

thank you for your help Whee, did you call them to figure out why exactly they did not except you. you seem like a well qualified candidate. i was told if you didn't get in you can call them and they will tell you why you didn't get accepted (specific reasons)

seriously guys stats arent everything every single thread has someone saying this. A 38 mcat wont guarantee a thing. At this school the mcat average isnt high (31 i think?) and they accept people with <30 mcats so obviously there are other things besdies stats that they care about. Just a pet peeve lol. Seriously guys because someone who looks good on paper is rejected it means nothing as far as your chances go

Yeah I totally agree that stats aren't everything (and really hope that's true for UW since I feel like I have some unique non-stat things to offer), but it still worries me just because I would think that everyone who interviews has a strong application including things other than their stats. So if interviewees with good stats (and I assume good non-stats aspects as well) are getting rejected it just makes me wonder what exactly UW is looking for in their applicants. But if I knew I guess things would just be too easy haha 😀

i agree. i would assume since we all made this far, applied and interviewed, that we all had good extra curricular activities that made us each unique. so seeing someone with a 33/3.7 not get in, really makes me wonder if i did enough to get in.

maybe im just not as paranoid as everyone here lol. Nobody will ever know outside of those voting on the committee what they want...so i always just take the position that we could guess and freak out when people dont get in who are "better" then us on paper. Or juts not worry and move on to the nxt one. 🙂 Though i have 3 waitlists after 3 interviews so i am freaking out somewhat too haha. Btu i try to keep it to a minimum. I feel really good about UW and UW interviews a small amount and acceptes a good amount so i think we should all take comfort in that at least.

yeah i think statistically...a person with a 33/3.7 has a pretty good shot...especially in state! But i guess that opens up more spots for me 🙂
(no offense to anyone!)

I agree. It's not like the admission committee is looking for just one thing. If you were invited to interview, obviously you as a whole package represent enough of what they're looking for to potentially admit you. After that point (IMHO), the stats of other people who were rejected or waitlisted after interviewing have very little impact on your own chances.

i just got an email today saying i am complete at UW and will go to review - BUT i havnt done anything with my file here for almost two months... i thought i had been complete this whole time😕 has anyone else experienced this or know what might have happened?

how many do they interview compared to how many the accept??? i've been looking for that stat on their site and haven't found anything.

so last year they interviewed 455 total and accepted 277 so about a 60% acceptance rate. Breaking it down more, 173/277 were IS and 104/277 were OOS. they only interviewed 146 OOS and 104 were accepted which is great news for those OOS people like me. They interviewed 309 IS so 173/309 were acccepted. Overall its good odds for us. Also in the packet they give you, it looks like for the past 5 yrs or so these stats have remained very similar.

I'll remind you that you said this when I get rejected/waitlisted 😉

I already bought a new backpack in Wisconsin colors so I might've jumped the gun on this one after this wave of bad news in this thread.

what is your source for those interview/accepted numbers. i have a packet that i got from madison that tells me how many applied and got in, but not how many they interviewed. either way thank you for letting me know the breakdown. i am an instate student. so hopefully i am one of those 173 that got accepted.

The packet doesnt givve the number interviewed but the MSAR does. So MSAR + interview day packet gives you all the info i just listed.

Those numbers are from the packet UW gives out at the interview day. Good luck :luck:

thanks for the help guys. just have to wait it out and see now.

I'm OOS too. This gets me kind of excited. I have an interview early January. Btw, how do you guys get here? Do you fly into Milwaukee and take a bus or fly into Madison? I'm thinking about renting a car and driving but I'm from CA so not used to winter driving - is it dangerous?

I'd highly recomend flying into Dane county airport in Madison it's easier n very close

driving in the snow isn't to bad. for a first time just go a little slower till you get a feel for it. flying into dane might be more expensive, but it should be a little less stressful and you won't have to worry about the 45 min. to one hour drive to milwaukee depending on traffic and weather.

I would definitely fly in to Dane. Winter driving up here in Wisconsin can range from essentially normal to "don't drive". It all depends on the day of the week and if a storm is rolling through our not. If you haven't ever driven on snow or ice before you have to go really slow and do not use the cruise control because of black ice.

Dane County Airport and get the hotel to pick you up.

Definitely fly into Dane county... Flying into MKE is a total waste of money and time. Cabs are cheap and reliable-otherwise I know when I was interviewing I was able to get very low rates on rental cars if you really want the freedom to explore the area a bit. Winter driving though, as others have noted, is unpredictable around here so this may not be your best option-though it could make the trip all the more memorable.

good luck confusedchild. hopefully the info on here helps. does anyone know when they review applicants after interview?? i'm trying to figure out if having thanksgiving break will help them catch up on reading applications or set them behind.

Sorry to throw bad news out, but I am guessing Thanksgiving may set them back. They normally review applicants on Fridays. So, it might be true that they will be behind, but that does not mean they won't make up for that by reviewing extra applicants the previous and subsequent Friday. Be patient, your name will be called at some point!!

yeah i know to be patient. but another school i got into has a 500$ deposit, non-refundable due on december 14th. i hope to have found out about madison before then so that i dont' have to pay it if i get into madison. i would choose madison over this other school, so if i can save 500$, it would be kind of nice. interviewed nov. 6th about 5 weeks before the due date to hold seat. in other words, it will be close.
