You're right, that was rather presumptuous of me. I guess I just think that unless this guy's name is Joey Chestnut, his competitive eating accomplishments probably aren't that impressive.

:smack:

This is an easy answer..it's Wisconsin we're talking about.. as a local I can say that he should definitely put it on his application. And, if it was a brat eating contest during the annual Brat Fest here, then he's a shoe in.. (haha)

My only point was that there is a fine line between including hobbies and interesting stuff and trying to fill space or fluff stuff up. The combination of "can i list my gf" and "can i list doing one eating competition" made me think he's trying to fluff thing.
I understand that it says life activities so maybe these things are ok, but of all the "life" activities I may add, I'm going to make sure they are meaningful if I have limited space and one eating contest that one time doesn't sound all that meaningful

 That's awesome.

I tend to agree with this, and I personally might probably wouldn't put an eating contest on there (if I had ever competed in one). I was just trying to make the argument that it wouldn't be completely absurd to put it down on this secondary.

So I realized that I forgot to mention that I earned my Eagle Scout from the BSA. Should I mention this in the optional essay(i don't think i'm supposed to put it in life activities because it specifically says only after completing high school and i earned it in high school) or would it look bad that I forgot to add it in the first place?😕

bovine serum albumin?

hey guys. when you filled out the activities, did you bother putting them in chronological order from high school on? i am doing them backwards (most recent first.) plus, a lot of things overlap and therefore aren't really in order per se.

According to the FAQ, this information ends up being a bar graph representing activities over time. so does this mean it automatically gets shuffled into order when said bar graph is created??😕

thanks.

it automatically gets put into order, I called and asked. Good luck with your app!

excellent, thank you. i'm amazed someone had an answer to my specific question so fast 😀 thanks for calling and asking!! (maybe they should answer it on their FAQs???)

Good luck to you too . . . I hope to see this thread start picking up soon!

No problem, I almost panicked when I was filling out my secondary in July and realized I entered all my activities in random order so I called to calm myself 🙂 Unfortunately, I don't think the thread will pick up much until mid-september since that's when the adcoms start reviewing apps and sending out interview invites.

indeed . . . i just finished filling out the beast (finally) and thats what the email I got said.

that's fine with me though. i like to space out my stress. waiting to hear from Vandy is making me crazy enough right now. (i also got your comment regarding Mayo, but i think I will address it in the Mayo thread) 😛

mmmkay . . . i am confused about this letter stuff.

it says i need a committee letter, AND a nonacademic letter? so i have to find someone to write me another letter in addition to my committee one? or does it count if my committee letter contains a non-academic letter (i have one from a physician i shadowed, but he is also a part of my department and teaches a class i took, so i'm not sure if that counts.)

i really hope i don't have to scrounge up someone else to write me a letter . . . i thought i was long done with that. 👎

Edited to add: Well I just got my 'you're complete' email so I guess my letters were okay. Yay!!! I'm excited about UW!!

Check your junk mail box in case it screened out your secondary, UW is very quick with their secondary e-mails but like Elijah said it looks like they just got your MCAT score.

hey guys- have people been getting complete emails? all i see on the status page are 2 green checkmarks by 'processing fee' and 'all letters received'...

im pretty sure i got a complete email.. but I believe it said that if you have those 2 checkmarks you are complete

Hi everyone:

I'm a current M2 at UW so if you have any questions, feel free to ask. I think we'll be starting to offer interviews in the next 3 weeks or so, so good luck!

thanks for the offer. this school is in my top two and i would love to go here. do you know the chances one has of getting accepted if they are offered an interview for an in state applicant? i know that madison has been cutting down on the number of interviews from previous years.

according to the MSAR 309 instate people were invited and 109 matriculated. So the accepted is better than 1 out of 3 people.

The last two years it's ranged from 55-75% IIRC, so pretty high.

Unoffically this isn't the case, but graduates from undergrad here have a significantly higher chance of gaining acceptance in my experience.

I think offers for in-state students were in the 160-200 range, IIRC. FYI, I also believe only about 10-15 people got in off the waitlist this year.

Hi! I was just wondering, i'm interested in rural medicine but decided not to apply through WARM just because I can't guarantee that rural is where I'll end up still wanting to go after med school. I would love to, but I can't promise it since I plan on growing quite a bit as a person in the next four years. Do you think that's gonna be counted against me in the admissions process? (saying i'm interested in rural but not applying through WARM I mean) Thanks!

New M1 here... there was a drop in the number of UW-Madison undergrads with the current class- 42%, which is lower than previous years. Average GPAs were both around 3.7, MCAT 31. There are 168 of us and ~130ish are in-state.

Very few people were pulled off of the IS waitlist- pretty sure it was less than 25.

Off to study now... first official day of classes was today 😉

:luck:

on their website, they keep specifying to 4 letters of rec. is it bad if i send in 5??

no, it won't be to your disadvantage, a lot of people are interested in rural medicine but aren't in WARM.

It's true that your class has the least amount of UW grads in the history of the program but that isn't because they aren't favored in the admissions process. I don't want to reveal specific details about the admissions process, but let's just say that UW-M grads have an excellent chance to gain admission here.

Any interview invites yet?

the last few years the first invites were in mid september for the 1st-2nd week of October, FWIW. I believe our first interview date (for the EDP people) is either this friday or next.

Well it's getting to be mid-septemberish, has anyone heard anything yet? I hope they start sending invites out soon. It seems like they set themselves up to be overloaded with applications when they don't start reviewing them until now. I hope that doesn't mean a higher percentage of applicants overlooked because they're just crazy busy. That would suck.

maybe they already have a lot of md applicants and have a system... meaning, they've probably reviewed applicants, open filed (i'd hope), but they're just waiting to go through more before making decisions? ...all speculation

whats the outlook for OOSer's? is it better for neighboring states or pretty equal for all states? (I am from IL.) I looooove Madison! I have had friends who lived there and every time I ever went there to hang out it was a good time. plus it's a kick ass school 😀

Ah, one of my friends got an interview invite today!!!!!!!! Here they come!!! Go Badgers!

This is from the complete e-mail:

[FONT='PrimaSans BT,Verdana,sans-serif']Dear ___________________,

Your secondary application to the University of Wisconsin medical degree program is now complete. This means that your secondary application has been successfully submitted, all letters of recommendation have been received and your application fee has been paid.

The next step is for the Admissions Committee to do the preliminary review of your application to determine whether or not you will be selected to interview. The Admissions Committee will begin this process in September. Review order is based upon the date of submission of the secondary application. Interview invitations will be extended beginning in September through February. MD Program interview dates begin October 3. Invitations to interview come via email.

University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health Admissions.\

Hope this helps!

oh yeah, I forgot they sent those. I haven't really been reading them, just looking at the title and seeing the word "complete." Thanks!

It is strange that so few people on SDN have gotten interviews here so far. They must not have sent out many invites.:xf: THose who received interviews do you mind sharing stats?

i got an interview on the 2nd i think, but I get the sense that the mstp committee operates very much separated from the md committee
