Well then I wonder who they would want to interview OOS. 42+/4.0? They should have stressed that you needed instate ties if you were OOS.

completely untrue. i know people who have gotten in from out of state with much worse than 38, 4.0. the only time ive heard of this occur at almost EVERY school is when the person has absolutely no clinical experience or extracurricular activities. 38 4.0 will for sure get you in from out of state
35, 3.6 wll also get you in from OOS

Well, I don't mean that that is absolutely the case. Do you think it's like UCSF's polite way of saying that you don't meet their requirements by sending a letter mentioning that you're not a CA resident?

Hmm . . . i am from IL and have ~3.5, 36

clinical experience, research, finishing MS degree . . . i hope they give me a chance

Well yeah, people have gotten in in the past, but maybe they've changed their policies and really do want to focus on in-state or people who maybe were OOS and did undergrad in WI. Don't ever tell people their stats will get in "for sure." Even those stats for an IS person don't guarantee anything. The odds could be good, but clearly since someone with 38/4.0 got rejected, it's not a sure thing.

Rejected by snail mail. I somehow expected this one. I don't know why.

Info for those who care and don't want to look at my MDapps: OOS, 3.8, 35, secondary competed 7/11.

whats the outlook for OOSer's? is it better for neighboring states or pretty equal for all states? (I am from IL.) I looooove Madison! I have had friends who lived there and every time I ever went there to hang out it was a good time. plus it's a kick ass school 😀

OOS people tend to have about a 1/3 post-interview acceptance rate, although I believe last year it was more like 40%.

For the people talking about being rejected and being OOS, there are certain things that UW really focuses on (clinical volunteering being one) so not having them will put you at a big disadvantage regardless of stats. There's usually a pretty good amount of OOS people (this past class has some of the most) so I wouldn't be too discouraged.

Oh man . . . I do this, but I just started like 1-2 months before submitting my AMCAS. (i do other volunteering but it took a while for me to find a good clinical volunteer opportunity.) Well at least if I do luck out and get an interview, I will have been doing it for 6 months by then. that would be better than people who have zero

Interview invite! 😍 THey don't hate me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

congrats guys, hopefully i'll see you guys around when you are interviewing.

Your first? Congratulations! Are you doing October 16th?

I got one today and did a happy dance in public. I'm IS and they pretty much told you what date your interview is (mine's the 16th, which is nice because I was heading home that weekend anyway), but you could email and request a different one.

Congrats to yourself as well. This actually is my fourth scheduled interview. I was just nervous about getting Wisconsin. I'll also be going October 16th so I'll see you there. They made it pretty convenient by selecting the date for me. Luckily I am not too far (within three hours) from Madison so I'll head up there the night before. Are you going to the informal gathering hahaha the night before?

If any girls (i am a girl, my fiance would freak out if I had boys stay over) want to stay an extra day and see state street (bars since interviews are on Fridays) or any more of campus before they head out my place is open. I work on campus and I went to undergrad here. I had an interview here last year and the tour is mainly just of the medical school so you won't see the union or the lakes and stuff. My interview is on the 9th so i definitely wouldn't be opposed to going out after that either. 😀

Congrats you guys! When were you complete?

9/4

gbarod...is there an informal gathering? or is that madison code for party? just basing it off facebook pictures from friends there...😀

you go and talk to med students. there were light snacks last year. it is basically just q and a

I'm going on the 16th too, I'll probably stop at the informal gathering

Rejected by snail-mail.

The letter read, "We at UW do not want to accept more OOS students. Go **** yourself. K? Thanks"

Love,

Aw that sucks, I'm sorry 🙁 Don't take it personally though, UW is really strict about their OOS applicants since there's ~170 students in the class and 80% are IS, that only leaves 20% or ~35 spots for OOS. Plus they interview about 150 applicants for those 35 spots so even OOS interviewees have it tough. It's hard enough to get in IS so the OOS applicant pool gets really competitive really fast. Don't worry, you're a good applicant and you'll get in to medical school. I really do wish you the best of luck! :luck:

haha.. the axe is coming to TCF Bank this year
No doubt! UM is looking surprisingly good this year. Hats off to them as they have waited longer than their fair share.

your telling me.. I have watched dismal season after dismal season..

I'm so happy to get an interview here after getting snubbed last time. OOS, for what it's worth. From the sound of it, the number of seats are still slim pickings.

Any eateries or sights that I have to visit while I'm there? No car, but I've got two legs.

Note: I'll be arriving at night.

I would suggest the ethnic restaurants on state street, they have everything imaginable such as greek, indian, japanese, chinese, mexican, and good old burgers, fries, and pizza. They also have the classic fast food chains for those looking to just get something to eat on the cheap. The nice thing is that the restaurants post their menus in their windows so that you can see their prices and if there's anything you'd find yummy BEFORE you go in. Also, check out memorial union's terrace, great beer and snacks right on the lake. They have indoor and outdoor seating so you can go in any weather, although I have to say going when it's nice out and sitting outside is my favorite. Both are right on the UW campus and not too far from the med school. By the way, to commute between the two: MSC/CSC shuttle. So much better than the 80 bus! 🙂

interview invite today, in state! good luck to everyone!

Congratulations guys! I hope enjoy your visit ot Madtown. Were you complete in July?

Invite this morning. Im OOS and i was complete on 7/14 or so. Since people here seem to ask about stats...my stats are what sdn would consider pathetic so obviously they are looking at something outside of mcat.

wow! great job elijah! I've noticed that you applied to all your schools super early. You bring a whole new meaning to applying early. And it looks like its paying off, yeah?

ahha well yah. when you have average or subpar stats....i think applying early is the biggest key for applicants like me. If you have a 3.8 and 40 mcat probably not as huge a deal. but when you are like 3.6 30 mcat....it can make all the difference in the world. Thats my take from my own anecdotal expereinces though fwiw 😛

wait is it 2 med students interview one student...or 2 med students interview a group of us...kinda confused.

When I interviewed last year, it was about 3 interviewees and two medical students. It was a super informal, just mainly a Q&A session

I just received an interview invite here and am wondering if anyone's status changed on the website? Mine still says wait 4-6 weeks, but I got an email this morning... Is anyone's different?

I agree, applying early could make up for bad stats. I'm IS and a UW grad (which may have something to do with it), but I'm sitting at a 3.6/31. However, I think complete 7/20 had more to do with it.

lol, yaaaaaaa.... if you're coming from an actual city then most of the restaurants in Madison will prove fairly disappointing-especially the "ethnic" ones. Look for decent midwestern places-good burger places like Dottie Dumplings is good. Really, it depends where you are staying. PM me for more info-just don't get your hopes up for good non-midwestern food cause it just aint gonna happen in homogenous little vacuum of a town.

Dude, if you think Madison is such a "homogeneous little vacuum of a town" then why didn't you go to "an actual city" instead and save the rest of us your whining? The people on this thread actually WANT to go to UW because it's a great school and the city of Madison actually has a very unique culture with a lot to offer. By the way, it is an actual city having over 200,000 people.
