So my little sister tells me a letter came from Vanderbilt and I ask her to open it for me (I don't live at my permanent address). She tells me I've been rejected... ok, not a surprise, life goes on.

Then she says, JUST KIDDING JUST KIDDING! They want a secondary and an interview!!...... gotta love younger siblings. I'm gonna remember this when she asks me to look at the growth on her foot in 10 years. "OMG GROSS WHAT THE HELL IS THAT???.... just kidding, here lemme slice it off..."

email 9/1 (I added Vandy late), invite 9/17-ish, interviewing on 9/29. They had two dates in september left, and a lot of october dates when I signed up.

😱 thats horrible . . . lol . . . good thing the only person in charge of opening my mail at home is my mom. although i don't trust her to call me right away if i do get rejected. i think she holds out on bad news. even though i ask her not to . . .

Do rejection letters come before or after interview invite letters? My primary app was received 8/25 (email notification), but I have not received any news yet :-/

Yippeee. Got my interview/secondary letter in the mail today. At first I thought it was a rejection letter cuz of it was a small envelope but it wasn't. yay!

okay does anyone know any stats on how many interviews they give vs how many they offer admission?

But it only has applicants interviewed, but they have been consistant

For what it's worth, last year they increased the class size to around 111 spots. So...while that doesn't seem like much, it's a couple more spots.

Rejection letter came over the weekend. No interview invite. AMCAS received August 19th. 👎

Hey guys, quick question:
where is the cheapest yet not so inconvenient place to stay in nashville? I have my interview this thursday and I dun think I can get a student hosting. Thx

There's a Hampton Inn across the street from Vanderbilt. It's kind of behind some stores and restaurants, but not more than a 10 minute walk to the campus. It's probably somewhat cheaper than the Mariott and definitely cheaper than Loews.

After sitting on this secondary for a ridiculous 51 days (combination of slacking + wanting to make it perfect for Vandy, sad I know) I finally submitted it tonight. Managed to grab an afternoon interview in mid-October, which is exactly what I wanted. So excited!

does anyone know if they provide student hosting for sunday nights? their website says that they don't offer hosting on the weekends (Friday and Saturday nights) so i hope that means sunday is ok? also, when does vandy typically have their exams? thanks!

i still havent heard anything and i was in the 8/4 group. did my rejection just get lost in the mail or is it possible i'm still in the running? do they ever sit on any apps that are borderline? or do they either reject-or-interview as they get them? (because thats what i thought they did?) 🙁 i don't know what to think.

I'm 8/11 and haven't heard. The email did say 4 to 8 weeks so maybe they do wait longer on some apps??😕

anyone know if 2 hours is enough time from when the interview day ends to my flight?

That should be perfectly fine - just head straight to the airport right after, and you'll be there in plenty of time. Nashville's airport is not far away at all, even with traffic.

I requested a student host but haven't heard back. How many days before the interview are they actually assigned?

I assume the best way to get to the airport (convenience/cost wise) is to take the gray line shuttle?

nice, thanks

i'll be taking the gray line i believe.

Got rejection today. Oh Well with low stats what can you expect at a school like Vanderbilt. This was my first choice by far. Would have given just about anything to go. Good luck to all who have interviews and who havent heard yet.

Just got rejected 🙁. This cycle is not going well.

On the bright side, I guess I have no more secondaries!

Does Vanderbilt offer the service where you could call in to inquire the reason for a rejection? I think some schools do this. I'd really like to know what I could improve!

I think it must be your lack of citizenship. Everything else seems to be in-line.

8/11 email, 9/15 postmark, 9/24 receipt of rejection. that kind of took awhile! i feel a sort of relief; i have never been terribly interested in living below the mason-dixon line.

im pretty sure they are into high MCAT scores as the most obvious thing that stands out about the school is their superb (and proud) USMLE performance

haha looks like they weren't "into" my 40... not terribly surprised considering other factors like GPA and an application that when you read between the lines screams "i love new england"

I interviewed not too long ago, and I'm DYING to know one way or another. Anyone else? I loved the school with all of my heart, and really think that I'd be a good fit. Since I can't exactly beg to the adcoms, I'll do it here

PLEASE TAKE ME PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE I WON'T LET YOU DOWN I SWEAR PLEEEEAAASSEE... PLEASE?

October, when it gets here, is going to be a rough month.

yea? i think that is a concern for them, as i was asked if i would actually go that far down south

Wow, they really ask that? I've never heard of northern schools asking that; I wonder why Vandy does. I'm from Florida, so I'd be surprised if I was asked that question (as it's north of me 😛), but it's interesting that they ask. Vanderbilt is an awesome school, I hope you get in!

Hey guys! I just wanted to know from those of you who just submitted their secondary, were any interview dates still available for October? It's just that I am still trying to finish my autobiography essay but with school and everything, I have almost zero time. Please let me know. Thanks!

Nope, interviews are now into the second week of November. Good luck getting it done with the work.

scheduled my interview for late november. 32 mcat, ~3.9 GPA for those who are interested. the ucsd autobiography prompt really helped me out for this one.

Was that the earliest date available?

No, I believe the earliest available was Nov 5. And there were about 2-3 available days per week, throughout Nov. And most of the time slots were available for each day (8am, 9am, and some afternoon times). For Dec, I only recall seeing a few open days for the 1st two weeks of the month.

Wow, looks like this latest wave of invites filled up interview spots quickly. I submitted last week, and there were a decent number of spots available in October (even two dates in September, this week). You guys did work on those essays.

Who's interviewing on Friday? Anybody? If you're cool, we should go for drinks at night or something.

Ha, my kind of interviewee. Someone that'll smash a few beers the night before. We'd totally be hanging out if i were interviewing friday.

so i totally called it . . . i got rejected, but my mom didn't tell me until I came home to visit her more than a week later! 🙄

no surprise here, so i am ok. I was in the 8/4 confirmation group and the letter was dated 9/15 so at least i can imagine that maybe they at least considered inviting me for a while, rather than rejecting me flat-out two seconds after reading my app.

good luck to the rest of you! and good luck Metallica, I think you are interviewing today! :luck::luck::luck:

So for you folks that have interviewed here already, did they said when you would be notified of a decision, or how long it typically takes them, or even how they will notify you?

I interview here a few days before Oct 15th, so I'm wondering when I could hear something.

Any time after Oct 15th. Some people last year that interviewed early got notified on the 16th and some got notified in November. It seems sporadic. Waitlists arrive via snail mail and acceptances via phone call, though.

Alrighty cool, thanks for the info. That will definitely make for some nervousness when I get calls from weird numbers.

Hey guys!

So, about acceptances:

most of the acceptances that come Oct 15 are from the earlier interviews. It seems rather sporadic because people get their interview reports in at different times, and committee meetings don't have everyone they need all the time, etc etc. Basically, human variability is at hand, but expect to get an answer in October-ish if you interviewed in August or early to mid-Septemberish, maybe.
Incidentally, last year they told us that they'd only call to accept people once every 3 weeks or once a month or something and in the beginning it was more often than that, so you never know.

As for the phone call, Dean Zic likes to call in the evening when he can assume you're around, so get excited after 5ish pm on oct 15. I believe he calls from a private number (cause I doubt he's at work at that point) so look for that. And yes, he leaves a voicemail with the good news if you happen not to pick up- he did that for me (the voicemail is still saved btw 😳).

Good luck to all! And as usual, let me know if you have any questions. We have yet another exam next week, but when don't we?

alright, lets stop talking about acceptances baby,
lets talk about everything else that may be,
like when i get waitlisted and **** gets hazy,
what can i do and what can i say that could make my app worth saving.
lets talk abouuut that
