I totally got a weird letter, I'm pretty sure I'm on hold. They don't say I'm waitlisted. They said they can't extend an "immediate invitation" to me so they'll keep considering my app thru the cycle.

Ahhh...limbo 🙄

it's all good though, i heart my state school 🙂 congrats again to everyone who got in!!!

yup that's the waitlist, and that's what I got. I wish they had the cojones to admit we're waitlisted! 🙄

oh well let's party it up with the schools that think we're good enough for an immediate acceptance! :soexcited: vandy doesn't know what it's missing!

Just wanted to point out that Vandy is also one of the few remaining schools with tons of merit aid as well. A number of my friends and I received at least some merit money. In my case, Vandy turned out to be cheaper than my state school would have been, so it was a no-brainer.

When do you find out if you're getting merit aid? Do you get a notification with your acceptance stating that you're a candidate for merit aid, or does it come later at the same time as financial aid?

haha...wow, I clearly did not understand what the letter meant. Or maybe I just need the school to say "waitlist" before I get that it's a waitlist.

thanks for clarifying!!! I feel a lot better now knowing my status.

And, rockaction, couldn't have said it better myself. We gotta celebrate what we've got!!!! cuz we've all got some nice stuff going 🙂

I believe last year the first merit scholarships started coming out in mid-late November. It totally depends, because each scholarship comes from its own fund (Canby Robinson vs. Dean's Scholarship vs other stuff I don't remember- you can check the financial aid website for details) and the people who decide who gets what from each fund meet at different times. I don't recall them sending the scholarship info to people right after acceptances last year, especially not in the beginning. I'm assuming they want to see a bit more of the pool of acceptees before deciding who fits the scholarship criteria best. So yeah, nothing for you to do but sit and wait, I'm afraid. Last year I got in Oct 15 and people started getting scholarships as of late Nov/ early Dec I think, and I thought I had no chance in hell until I got a phone call in mid-Dec telling me I had gotten one. You really don't know you're eligible until they tell you you have it.

Oh, and I don't know if others received merit money with financial aid without having been told about it before, but I do know a friend who actually got a scholarship when he was already here, about a week into the school year. So you never know!

You guys are lucky, Dr. Lefkowitz is the best. He's definitely pretty old-school, but he knows this place incredibly well and has done a lot for the admissions department. He's also one of the advisors for one of the colleges here, and volunteers regularly at our free clinic. So yeah, you can definitely get to know the school quite well through him, and his opinion is very respected. Actually, he's also one of the facilitator for our small group class (Patient, Profession, and Society) and he picked all the people in his small group so they're all kids he interviewed.

Hi so i just scheduled my interview, and was wondering if its okay that I'm not interviewing til Jan 8. The earliest were a couple dates in mid December, but I thought I couldn't take advantage of them due to finals. One of my finals has been moved though, so I could probably take advantage of the December 14-ish date if it was still available.

Should I call and see if its possible to make it earlier or would that look bad?

I tried that, but they said they won't reschedule except for emergencies

so where are they at in terms of interview date and hearing back? i interviewed 9/30. anyone else?

9/24 here! I don't think I was supposed to hear anything yet-- probably first week of November at the earliest. This school is a bit of a reach, so I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much. But I 😍 this place. Good luck!

anyone here interviewed with Dr. Lefkowitz?

I know someone who interviewed with Dr. Lefkowitz last month. The interview lasted two hours, so be prepared. Interestingly, he told this person that he chooses the people he gets to interview, so there is something in your application that intrigues him. I would see this as a definite plus. The scuttlebutt is that interviewees with Dr Lefkowitz have a high rate of being accepted, so be confident!

Totally random (and someone may have mentioned this before...but I missed it), but did anyone else see that on the application status webpage they have this option to "Click here to view your Experience Timeline"?

It puts all your AMCAS activities in visual form, ordered by the dates listed and the hours you committed to it.

Like I said...totally random, but being a very visual person, I thought it was cool

That is good to know!! I was looking through the Interview Day booklet and saw the average gpa is like 3.8 and MCAT is 11.3 for people who get accepted and I'm NO WHERE close to that. But good to know that I interviewed with an interviewer who actually wants to get to know me better. 👍

While that sounds reasonable, you find out your interviewer when you select your date and time. So the people who get Dr. Lefkowitz are just the people who randomly decide to choose the time he has listed in the interview scheduling system. That said, if he can has more "push" with the admissions committee than other interviewers, then it certainly can help.

OK I wasn't going to do this, but I can't help it. Thoughts on when we hear back for 9/24 interviews?

^ greenbeans just posted what i've been thinking since 10/15...although for me it would be 9/1* interview 😉

Thank you! It's hard for me to believe that we're the only two SDNers who care about this, but I'm glad you've been thinking the same thing!

I browsed through last year's thread, and the 9/22 interviewees seemed to have gotten letters and calls on 10/29 (letters postmarked 10/27). I think for us this means SOON. (Esp. you actually. I'm surprised that you didn't hear with the 10/16 group!)

Good luck!

Don't worry guys, I'm on the same page too. I'm sandwiched between you as far as dates go. Good luck to both of you 🙂

Vandy is already the sultry vixen of my medical school fantasies-don't tease me with the possibility of hearing soon 😛 haha

I am so excited to hear from this school...It was my first interview and I was totally in love; of course that opens up the fear that the interviewing skills weren't totally up to par yet 🙁 -lets all hope for the best!

Hi SDN folkage!

I hope everything is well, and the vixen (hehe I like that) that is Vandy has been treating you well. I've received a few PM's by people wondering whether they should call admissions for one reason or another- I can tell you the lady at the admissions office is the nicest lady in the world and she won't judge you one way or the other. Hard as it is to believe right now, unless you're completely insane and say something really inappropriate or bug the admission people twice a day at home, you won't be penalized for being a concerned applicant. They know it, expect it, and prefer that to having people make assumptions based on rumors they heard online.

Speaking of rumors, I spoke to an inside source in the admission committee and he said that about 25 acceptances were given out in the first round, and no more have been around since. The committee meets for 2 hours each friday, so I wouldn't be surprised if something happened this friday afternoon or the next. They're hard at work!

Hope this helps. As always, let me know if you have any questions etc, and get pumped about Vandy! People in other threads are getting all cheesy and annoying about their much inferior schools and there's not as much pep here 😛

Thanks for that LET. Interviewed 9/11, and I'm holding my breath.....still very much pumped about Vandy!

Yeah, thanks LET! I've got a few butterflies going already. I had them on the 15th too, and I was 99% sure I wouldn't hear back on that day.

Of course once someone got the POSSIBILITY of hearing anything soon in my head yesterday (basically within the past 6 or so posts), I haven't done anything but think about it. I finally folded and called the admissions office-I got the old 4-6 weeks from your interview date (asking about when we would hear if we had interviewed in mid-september). So I figured I'd let y'all know that-good luck to everyone

4-6 weeks, not 6-8?

Today, folks, is the day the second batch of letters were received last year. Why is no one excited? 😀

Looks like it's still going to be a while before I hear back.. I went in October.

I submitted my application at vandy what seems like ages ago but still have not received any secondary and interview or a rejection letter. What is going on? They said it could be 8 weeks but it seems like it has been even longer than that at this point. I hope to hear something even if this school is a long shot for me. I would go here in a heartbeat. I love Nashville and my wife was a student at vandy for undergrad.

Maybe I've finally lost it, but HOW is this thread silent? Is no one else :scared:?

Me. But I'm really trying not to think about it. I didn't interview until 10/2, so I'm not expecting to hear anything until mid-November.

Plus, I've learned not to get my hopes up about anything like this, therefore trying to get Vandy out of my head for the time being.

Yeah.. that's what I should be doing too. I've gotten myself worked up on several occasions for nothing. BUT I failed so I'm embracing it. 😛

For what it matters, I don't think you'll hear today so I'd go enjoy your weekend. You interviewed a week after I did, and I think I'm being stupidly hopeful about today as is.

That said, I really hope we hear today!! One way or the other. I just want to know! Good luck to you both btw!

I interviewed 10/2 as well. Like you, I'm trying not to get my hopes up, but it's so hard not to. Vandy just had such an awesome environment!

Funny thing happend. I interviewed last week and had Dr. Lefkowitz. He was such a great person, but when I walked in he had my house up on Google Maps and he started asking me stuff about my neighborhood. Pretty hilarious imo.

Question - How much time should I budget getting to the airport? Would I be okay with a 5:30 flight after the interview?

I think that should be fine. You might miss some of the children's hospital tour. The lady at the office (can't believe I forgot her name! Judy I think?) will help you set up your shuttle for whenever your flight is.

This is week 6, right? When, oh when?

I'm probably going to end up banging my head on the wall for thinking about this school so much (chances of getting in are SLIM) but I can't help it. I hope we hear soon! Please share if you hear from them! 😀

So, I submitted my primary 8/4, verified 8/27. I still have not heard anything from Vanderbilt. Should I call them?

Thanks, the alternate options are a red eye flight (17 total hours) or waiting till 6 AM EST the next day. Flying from the NW is super fun!
