This is week 6, right? When, oh when?

I'm probably going to end up banging my head on the wall for thinking about this school so much (chances of getting in are SLIM) but I can't help it. I hope we hear soon! Please share if you hear from them! 😀

i just got the call from dean zic!! i interviewed 9/4 so it was basically 2 months before i heard back.

just checked my voicemail and got the message from Dean Zic...awesome first acceptance!!!

i interviewed 9/14 if that helps anyone.

please tell me your last names are towards the beginning of the alphabet? 😛

OH MY GOODNESS!! CONGRATULATIONS, freeace and azp!!! And thank you for posting! I had a feeling it would be soon. 😀 As expected, no news for me, but I'm so, so happy for you both!! Hope you're out celebrating big time. :claps:

Did anyone from 9/24 hear anything? :xf:

I'M IN!!!!!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!
:soexcited::soexcited::soexcited::soexcited::soexcited:

I checked my voicemail at work JUST in case, and Dr. Zic had left a message! I REALLY hope it wasn't a mistake or a joke. I almost want to call them to double check. (Interviewed 9/24)

accepted too 🙂 ! my favorite school !

Congrats to all accepted! Esp greenbeans, since you can stop your obsessive checking.

I really, really, really hope I'm in the same situation when the next batch of calls come out (since I interviewed on 10/2).

I interviewed 10/02 too and had an amazing day! Can't wait to hear back. 🙂

EDIT: Wait.. maybe 10/01? Don't remember.

Thanks!!! And good luck!!!! :luck: (although i think if i can do it, you for sure can-- i'm still not quite sure how all this happened to be honest.)

I'm quitting SDN for a while because I tend to obsess (catch on, did you? 😉) I expect to see good news when I check in!

lastly, thank you for putting up with me and my :scared:-ness.

if you interviewed 10/2, as did i, then you'd likely remember cuz we went to a certain place before the afternoon tour

=)

sounds like waitlist for the rest of us that interviewed in that range eh?

Haha, I have no idea what you're talking about... and I'm now pretty sure I was a Thursday so 10/01 it is!

Haha, so I definitely interviewed on 10/2, but I have no clue what you're talking about either.

Hmm, I interviewed on 9/24. I'm definitely expecting a waitlist on this one. The interviewer was really weird and felt compelled to give me advice on how I should structure my upcoming manuscript. I felt like I wasted a flight afterward 😡.

oof. yeah i interviewed a little before you did and im also expecting a waitlist. i didn't think my interview went terribly but i did get a strange vibe out of it as well. sorry to hear you felt like it went so badly.

LET THE LONG WAIT BEGIN! I interviewed here last week, Oct 30th but I don't expect anything really. I interviewed with Dr. Lefkowitz, and although I thought he was an incredibly nice and wise man, he barely let me talk! So I really don't think I have a shot😛 BUT! Here one for a shot in the dark 👍

oops, my bad. i interviewed 10/5 at vandy. 10/2 was somewhere else.

nothing to see here, move along

If it makes you guys feel better, I left my interview feeling like I did horribly (I even deleted vandy off of my spreadsheet of med schools after getting back) and the acceptance came completely as a surprise to me. Until you actually see rejection in writing, just keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best.

Who did you have? I had a female internist/clinical researcher. She was writing a grant as I walked in and I wasn't sure she had read all that much of my application, although she did have a copy of my AMCAS on her desk. I left unimpressed, which was in stark contrast to many other interviews I had including the crazy stress interview I had at UCSF (I actually liked it and think it went really well).

has anyone who did not get a call on tuesday gotten a mail response that tells them they are waitlisted?

yeah i had someone else. i also got a similar impression as far as how much my application was read, but it was mostly an issue of what i think he focused on reading which caused him to miss certain things in my background. disappointing if that is part of what keeps me out since i really thought it was a great school and had a great time.

i haven't gotten any mail yet.

Just got home from work (I work at Vanderbilt) and had a waitlist letter (technically, they will be reconsidering my application throughout the admissions season)

Interviewed 9/25 with Dr. Lefkowitz

Oh gosh, I just interviewed with Dr. L too.

So have any of you interviewed with a pediatric endocrinologist?

Interviewing tomorrow! The campus is incredible.

Interviewed there 11/5 as well - and I did the walk-around-campus-the-night-before thing too: totally awesome campus!

If we both interviewed yesterday - then I finally saw an SDNer at a med school interview! Whoo! (I feel like it's a requirement to do that if you are on SDN...)

How insane was their CLEA and critical care tower??

btw as for the interview vibe:

I've been in the corporate world for quite a few years now; and in general I (knock on wood) do well on interviews. But the vandy interview was definitely hard to read. Not because it was a HARD or STRESSFUL interview -but because of the way it went (for me anyway). The interviewer just asked open ended "life" questions and we talked about a lot of general/personality related things. Because there were no pointed questions (they don't have to be very pointed, but more specific questions at least) - I could gauge if what I was saying left a positive impression on the interviewer. Most people intuitively know if the interview is going well or not - and if they CAN'T read it - assume that it ISN'T going well (like I do!).

So yea - guess I'll find out in 8-10 weeks?

I couldn't agree with this more. I feel like I interview well too, but my interviewer didn't seem very interested in my responses. It was weird.

Totally agree with the above two posts. Based on the questions/topics of conversation, my interviewer couldn't possibly have learned anything valuable about me or how I would fit at the school. Seemed kind of pointless.

Wow, seems like a common trend here. I thought mine was weird, but it looks like a ton of people had the same experience.

I wonder how they can make decisions about us from these interviews unless they have already made up their mind before talking to us?

the 9/2* range...apparently people from then got calls...was my first interview though so I can see where I learned a lot since then and have gotten acceptances to other schools since then

I interviewed on Sep 29th, I am not sure if I should be expecting a waitlist letter or if a decision has not been made yet. Has anyone who interviewed around the same time (28th-30th) or later heard back yet? :beat:

Corporate world huh? I think I know which applicant you were.

Yeah, I would agree. My interview way fairly relaxed, but I couldn't tell what he was getting at. Lots of personal and life questions that didn't seem all that relevant. Looks like I finally get to join in the waiting game.

I'm having an interview early next week and I didn't get assigned to student hosting. Hence, I'm the opportunity to talk and interact with some of the finest students in Vandy. I was wondering if anyone could offer me some insights in the like of being a Vandy med school? Student population and characteristics? and also the pros and cons being in Vandy?

PM me please 🙂

Wow, I'm sorry you guys are having negative interview experiences! Usually interviews here are so chill...it sounds like they're trying to be so chill they almost seem off-topic...

Well, as a reassurance, I believe the interviews are supposed to be relatively non-"so tell me about this experience"-ish. They're really just there to gauge whether you'd fit in with the student body as far as your personality is concerned. They HAVE the other information. Talking about your research, or listing your extracurriculars is easy- talking about life choices and experiences isn't. They seem to do a very good job of picking people here that work well with the school's feel and with each other, so they're just trying to see whether you're one of those people.
Also, don't forget that thus far you've been judged on your primary alone. Your interview is merely a part of the whole package that will be brought to the committee. While at all other schools your interview is the only new thing presented when the committee meets to make a final decision, here they'll have your secondary (with your autobiography, which will go well with the interview), and the interview's impression of you, plus your LORs. It's really a multi-perspective view of who you are.

Anyways, sorry you guys didn't have a good experience here 🙁. For what it's worth, I don't know anyone in my class who doesn't love it here (we're the happiest students in the nation!) and they bend over backward to make us feel at home.

👍 The school was definitely really nice. It's obvious it's moving in the right direction!

Is anyone who interviewed the week of September 14- 18 still waiting for a call/ waitlist letter? I know people who interviewed more recently have received both positive and negative feedback.

Vandy is the last school I'm waiting to hear back from, and from the looks of it, they is taking for eveeer.

Hey guys! Just out of curiosity, has anybody here interviewed with Dr. Harold Helderman? Thanks in advance 🙂

I did. He's nice and I thought the interview went very well. But I didn't get accepted.
