I don't think this is correct.
They can and do reject pre Oct 16, but they don't necessarily do it for all rejections. Nonetheless, I think having not heard bad news prior to today is a good sign.
I think that you could either hear today of an acceptance, a hold, or even a slim possibility of a rejection.
What's with the 6:04 PM obsession with VCU...you know they are just sitting on this info. Why not release it during the day?
I haven't been following the thread much so you all may have discussed this in the past.
As I remember it, a rejection at this point is any score >3.5.
At least in the past, the rejections came automatically after you were discussed at the Monday meetings. Hypothetically the people who were discussed this week may not have heard yet but everyone else is safe.
If you are accepted, you will hear today. Otherwise you will be passed on to the next batch of acceptances.
In case you all were not familiar with how it works:
Each student gets ranked by number at the AdCom meetings from 1-5. 1 is the absolute best applicant. 5 is a very poor candidate. >3.5 is an automatic rejection. This number is you priority score.
For each batch of acceptances, there will be a cut off point. Hypothetically lets say that it is 1.5 for Oct 16th. Everyone with a 1.5 and below will get an acceptance today. Everyone above that number (but below 3.5) will get passed on to the next batch.
If the next batch's cut off is 1.7 everyone at/below 1.7 from the old batch and those who interviewed since the last batch will get in.
This continues to the next and the next batch.
At that point after march, the school will start putting people on the wait list. At this point they may make another round of cuts depending on the number accepted already.
Usually you will not hear anything between rounds. So if you dont hear anything today it is because you're getting passed on to the next batch.
Things may have changed since I went through the process. Hopefully there will be communication between batches.
