I'm not going to bad mouth other schools based on second hand info, but I've heard that there are some where you are put into a room to "mingle" with current students and the other applicants during which you are secretly being graded on your interpersonal group skills. Sound familiar to anyone?
Haha yes...sounds like Hopkins...

I've always wondered what it would be like if your student host were somehow part of the admissions process (unbeknownst to you, obviously)... idk if I'd be down with that haha
So I really liked Yale when I interviewed (the friendliest admissions staff and best library and anatomy lab I've seen thus far), except for one thing: the students. I'm sorry to generalize, but I wanted to see if anyone shared my sentiment. My tour guide, the students sitting at lunch with us, the students we bumped into in the library, even my student interviewer...they talked excitedly about their school, but you couldn't tell from their stone-cold, analytical faces. It was a bit disheartening. They weren't unfriendly, but they weren't friendly either. Of all the schools I've visited, I was the least impressed by the student body reception at Yale. Any thoughts?
oh my goodness i thought it was just me. i really did not like the vibe i got from students at Yale, I don't know how to explain it, but i just felt they were a bit too 'ivy league' and by that i mean the 'look at me i go to Yale therefore i am great attitude."
but other than that yale was great.

I think of you stayed with a student host you would have gotten a better feel for the school.
The football? No.
Watching Yale show Harvard how to tailgate? Yes.
At least we don't ban trailers, alcohol and fun down here in New Haven.
my student host left me alone for the night and stayed at her boyfriend's 🙄
ah well, i'll be in new haven this weekend to watch yalies get CRUSHED by the crimson. 😀 do lots of med students make it out to the game?

In an effort to curb secondary application fees, I didnt apply to Yale- I figured it was too much of a reach. However, now I'm thinking about it. Is there a point in applying at this time?? Do they look disfavorably on applications submitted this late? I'm not a superstar applicant (3.73/33Q/Cornell senior), but I'm not a bad one either- solid recs and EC's, already a Weill and Penn interview- anyone heard anything from Yale at the interview etc how they look on later applications? I know it's not rolling, just curious.....
Does Yale send out post-secondary rejections or is it one of those - if you don't hear anything by January, assume rejection...
complete 11/17. Invite 11/30.
Does anyone know if it makes a difference when you interview? Does interviewing later in the cycle decrease your chances even though it is a non-rolling school? Did they answer this question in the interviews??? Thanks!
Here is a little Yale humor while we wait:
A Harvard man and a Yale man are at the urinal. They finish and zip up. The Harvard man proceeds to the sink to wash his hands, while the Yale man immediately makes for the exit.
The Harvard man says, "At Harvard they teach us to wash our hands after we urinate."
The Yale man replies, "At Yale they teach us not to [urinate] on our hands."
Has anyone sent an update letter? I sent an update email to my schools and got a response from most saying that my file has been updated, but no word from Yale. Do they not reply or is it just me?
Going back to Yale's student body.... I do not know why, but the students are dreadful..and not only med students but the undergrads as well. To me, they seemed like zombies....
No wonder Harry Potter's Emma Watson turned down Yale and chose to attend Brown.
Umm, how much do you know about Yale students? If you think that you can form an encompassing impression about the whole Yale student body through a one day visit to the med school, you are foolish. From my experience most students are happy. I mean endless resources, great student body, great food, great nightlife, easy access to NY and Boston... Should I go on? Anyway, seems like either you are an ivy-wannabie or just another Harvard student with too much time on your hands. In any case, perhaps Yale is not the right fit for you![]()
