Yale students are definitely not dreadful. And while they haven't granted me an interview yet (crosses fingers), I have visited the medical school for conferences and everyone seemed pretty happy, content and excited to be going there.

But, great nightlife?? In New Haven??? Yes there are restaurants and things to do, but I don't think you can really say that New Haven has "great" nightlife. Have you been to a real city?

oh boy lol

oh boy lol

Sorry that was a bit harsh. Point being, it's hard to say New Haven's "vibrant nightlife" is a major draw when many of it's peer institutions are located in New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, San Francisco, etc. I think New Haven definitely has a leg up on Baltimore though 😉

lol i just started to see that going to a bad place on the yale thread-i'm from one of those other cities you mentioned...those "real" cities 😉

Wait ksmi, you emailed them to check if they had recieved your email update? ? 😉

Not to see if they got it. To request a response. There are plenty of times I get an email and don't respond. I didn't ask for a response in my first email so I did later. It's not that ridiculous since it did work.

Dude, Toad's Place is where it's at.

Perhaps your right. Having grown up in NYC, I could not imagine what a real city is like. That being said, New Haven has a street of just bars and clubs. There are so many spots that in 4 years I did not go to half of them. If you don't believe me see the following: http://www.yelp.com/search?find_loc...09,41.2303146596,-72.8242492676,41.3860822992

I mean if you looking to party it up in NYC every weekend and add to your debt then New Haven is not for you :meanie:

should i assume if i've been complete and in review since july 9th it's a silent rejection?

Going back to Yale's student body.... I do not know why, but the students are dreadful..and not only med students but the undergrads as well. To me, they seemed like zombies....

No wonder Harry Potter's Emma Watson turned down Yale and chose to attend Brown.

(the following statement is said knowing what a great school yale is, with great resources and all that good stuff)

in your defense there were a number of people a few pages back with this same discussion about how the student body (appeared to) suck.

yes we may not have spent significant time in yale but the point is when the only chance we have to see students is during this one day and they appear to not be relaxed and happy (and just because they get drunk doesn't make them happy) it leaves question marks. Especially when other schools we have interviewed at seem to have much more relaxed, regular students just on interview day.

Funny story (and probably not AT ALL representative of the entire student body at Yale)...but I thought I'd share. I went to the Unite for Sight conference at Yale once and found myself sitting next to a second year student (M2) who I talked to briefly before a string of break-out talks began. The third talk was from a AIDS researcher who was conducting studies on the use of circumcision in Africa as a means to decrease the spread of HIV infection (with documented, peer-reviewed proof of his results).

The med student turned to me and said, "Can you believe this? This is just genital mutilation promoted by Jewish people."

Stunned and at a loss of words (I really didn't know how to respond to something so clearly ignorant and prejudice)....I could only reply "I'm Jewish."

She stopped talking to me.

If you are considering Yale, you should come to the second look weekend. You'll get a much better feel for the students (good or bad) when you get to hang out with them, rather than relying on the vibe from a 25 minute lunch with a few first years who are mainly focused on answering your questions rather than convincing you how sweet they are. Though if you want to make your med school decision based on what anonymous people write on an internet message board, well....

Meanwhile I'm going to be getting 50 days of skiing in this winter, go fourth year.

Hi everyone,

I wanted to raise a concern of mine and find out what you guys think. I submitted my application to Yale as of October 8th, but I have still not been marked complete according to the status check website. I realize it is not updated in real-time, so is it possible that I have been marked complete already, but it has not shown up on the website?

They also seem to discourage any calls or emails about status checks, so I am not sure who to reach out to about this.

Thanks! 🙂

post your amcas ID # and maybe an adcom member will read it and be able to tell you via PM

That is probably worth a call. I think they don't want to be bugged by crazy premeds checking every day, but I think it is reasonable to say "I was complete two months ago but my status doesn't reflect this, I just want to make sure that my application isn't missing some material so I still have time to get that to you."

absolutely call them. i held off calling a diff school for 2 months because they specifically said not to call about status checks. i finally did it -- just to find out that i was never completed because for some reason, the system went wonky when i checked the FAP option and was registered as no payment (which isn't supposed to happen because it won't let you submit without either FAP or a cc#). the admissions lady was more than nice about it and i felt like an idiot waiting and checking every week instead of just picking up the phone.

Hey all,

Does anyone on this thread know what days Yale typically conducts interviews? I'm going to be interviewing at Weill in mid-January (probably 1/12, 1/13, or 1/14) and I was wondering a) if it would be a good idea to send an "in the area" letter of interest to Yale and b) if they did have me for an interview, what are their mid-January dates? Ideally, I can coordinate trip with an NYC school or two to consolidate interviews (currently on the West Coast and have a strong interest in reducing the number of redeyes I fly). I also have completed apps in at NYU and Columbia, if anyone knows anything about those schools' interview dates.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

I don't think they have interview dates left in jan. Someone i know scheduled his for Feb, and I think that was the earliest date. When I scheduled mine, the January calendar wasn't available yet so I can't confirm.
Don't know about "in the area" emails. You could try it. The worst they can say is no.

Thanks everyone for your input. I will call them as soon as possible!

Hey guys,

So just as I was about to call this morning, my status page updates for the first time since early October. It now lists everything as received, yet I have not been marked complete yet (It says "no" to whether my application has been marked complete and under review)?

I don't understand how this can occur. Has this happened to anyone before?

yeah, don't worry. there is a lag time between "materials received" and "complete"
Don't worry - you're good to go

Thanks mate!

And yeah, I read previous posts in this thread and it appears this has happened to other applicants as well.

I interviewed at the beginning of October, where should I send my Fall semester grades and updates to my profile?

Yale is definitely non-rolling. They told me at my interview that they don't make any decisions on applicants until they have finished interviewing. So sit tight until March...

Is Yale still giving out interview invites? I was complete late September and I'm still hoping!!

right there with you guys. i think all updates are by snail.

Does Yale take update emails (PRE interview invite)?? If so, who should I address it to?

were you complete pretty early too jerew?

Well, at the time it seemed late: early september. Now, 5 months later, it seems like a pretty darn long time ago.

wow, yea looks like im in the same boat as many of you! Complete early September and still no news! Have waves of rejections been sent out already?

Invite here, too. 🙂 Pretty exciting whenever it comes.

They are non-rolling so you won't hear anything for a couple more months

Was this a rhetorical question? Hmmm...I'll assume not:

Why, several reasons! Most importantly, I've found a place that is a perfect match for my personality, background, and career goals.

I would think many on this thread would be appreciative of someone not competing for another interview slot if they have no intention of attending, right? 😉

Anyway, good luck to all of you! I hope you find happiness this cycle too! :luck:

respect 👍

and 'grats to all of you with recent invites!

Anyone send in a letter of interest/intent?

Sorry, I should have been more specific, as I was referring to letters of interest/intent post-interview.
