how do you know the scholarship information? is that for everyone in-state, or are those the only 2 standard scholarships that are possible, and only some get them?

Since it is Wednesday again, has anyone been lucky enough to get an acceptance call this afternoon from Florida Atlantic!

Please post as soon as possible, PLEASE!

Looks like instate b/c OOS tuition is much higher. 12500 would be more like 1/4th.

I'm OOS but i dont know if I should apply... They said 10 seats only right..?

Congratulations!!!

May I ask, was you acceptance relayed by phone call or e-mail.
Thanks for posting, it is appreciated!!

Also, when did you interview???

The phone call happened first but I think that possibly an email and definitely a website status change should arrive by tomorrow at the latest according to Dr. Hinkley

for Doctortobesoon, below: I am OOS

I hope Dr. Hinkley couldn't hear me jumping around in circles while he was talking to me...I was getting some pretty big air and probably making noise, haha..

I'm anxiously awaiting my call.....hopefully it is good news! I interviewed on the 24th....

Congrats again!! That is so nice that Dr. Hinkley is personally calling the charter class!

One more question please, are you an OOS applicant? Thanks!!

Accepted!!!!!!!!! In state.

Wow I really can't believe it!! I keep replaying it in my head to make sure he said those words... hahaha (it's my first and only acceptance, and second year trying.. so i know what rejection feels like! lol)

Congrats to everyone who has been accepted and good luck to those still interviewing!!

Still waiting on a phone call; anyone else?

Hi

I am one of the applicants that interviewed at FAU on the 29th. I was very impressed with how personable the faculty was and with how the faculty was very enthusiastic about the program they prepared.

Congrats to all those that have been accepted.

Don't panic yet. I'm still waiting on a call and I interviewed on the 24th. I don't know in what order they are making the calls, but I am really nervous. Hoping for my first acceptance.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Accepted!!
Congrats Sun!!! I am soooo excited for you! 😀😀😀

Anyone else still waiting on a call? It has been 3 hours? If they are going alphabetically I'm at the end but still nervous that I haven't been called yet.

Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow SDN kids rocking it out.

Juneilow,

Hopefully I'll hear the same from you next.

I wonder if there's anyone who actually has been waitlisted post interview at FAU. Seems like everyone posting is the accepted crew who coincidentally tends to be the regulars on this thread.

its nice to see that these acceptances too are going to people who are getting their first acceptances. It always feels nice to hear someone who hasn' been accepted yet say ACCEPTED because these are the people you really feel for esp. when they've applied 2 and 3 times to get where they are or are stuck on several waitlists.

I would like to congratulate all of you on job well done in making it regardless of where you end up. 🙂

Thanks so much gujuDoc!! And yea I agree its nice that they are offering acceptances to people who dont have any yet. I'm wondering if they put anyone on the wait list too.. or if they are just going to accept a lot of the first few groups of interviews? Its nice to hear that so many people are getting acceptances though!

Accepted OOSers-- Have you received any financial aid/scholarship info?

Accepted OOSers-- Have you received any financial aid/scholarship info?

The financial aid package will be mailed with the acceptance packet, so it hasn't arrived yet. Everyone was supposed to fill out FAFSA and designate FAU well before their admissions decision date. I'm expecting what is typical for med schools, which is hardly any grants and mostly all loans, but I can't say for sure yet. As for scholarships, Dr. Hinkley told me to fill out the charter class scholarship application ASAP, but that they were currently unsure how much scholarship money they would have for OOSers. Again, I'm just going to expect to pay full price until I hear back.

Also, I like your avatar and user title. It bothered me that I didn't know what it was from, so I found out, and ended up watching the whole 1st season of Archer in a day.

haha! awesome! Season 2 has been even better, especially episodes 6-10...I know it's hard to believe anything could be better than season 1, but it's true

Is there an OOSer out there with a sub-30 MCAT who has been invited to interview?

never got mine, had to call to see what was up.....Waitlisted. it sucks but whatever, gotta stay positive
I didn't get a call either - checked website which said alternate list. I'm not going to be staying on the list. Good luck to everyone else, I hope ya all get in!

Don't give up, it's not over yet!

I never got an interview here, either. Review completed on 3/8.

I have been complete since 3/7 with no interview. but i mostly wanted to go down there to see what was going on, and see if they could convince me to go (with money maybe)

anyway, best of luck, maybe well still get an interview.

I also am going to find out at that time when they are considering interviewing til.

They should interview through most of May and maybe, MAYBE, into June, depending on how many people accept their seats. Straight from Dr. Hinkley's mouth.

Accepted on April 6... OOS
as far as scholarships for OOS'rs I am still awaiting the acceptance package in the mail. Im praying there will be a big scholarship b.c its pretty damn expensive for OOS studnets

congrats to you and everyone else accepted! It looks like most OOS spots are full already you are of the lucky few 🙂

I am hoping a few of you who have interviewed already would be willing to fill out the interview feedback on SDN. Here is the link http://www.studentdoctor.net/schools/school/fau in the middle of the page there is a place that says "click here to provide your feedback" then you just follow directions.

This would be appreciated by those of us interviewing soon. Cheers.

Hi Guys, I am still at preliminary review started (3/3/11)...I completed my app. after getting the invitation, and am still waiting to get completed...much less and invitation for interview....I've called them and they say that due to the number of applicants the comm. has not had time to review all the apps...This smells fishy to me, and I think I have been placed on hold for review. I got the same treatment at UMMSM this past year and did not hear back from them, simply to be rejected....

Is anyone else still waiting to be complete after submitting their app early???:scared::scared::scared:

Yes, preliminary review started 3/2. I thought I was the only one! I'm OOS (although strong ties to FL because my entire family lives there), so each time I see an OOS acceptance posted, I lose a little hope for this school since I know they aren't taking many.

So does anyone know if FAU is P/F??
It also says that its both PBL supplemented with lectures...is this true??
And do you get to do your clinical the cleveland clinic or no??
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks

I would post this on the FSU thread to get your questions answered. However, I'm pretty sure FSU is pass/fail, and I think you're right about the curriculum, but i'm not sure about the cleveland clinic. Granted this is what I remember from the thread itself, but if you put these questions up there you will definitely get more definitive answers.

Wow ooopss.... lol meant to type FAU.... s and a close together...my fault ....sorry... =P

You know I wonder if they mistyped because they just got into FSU, and if what they meant is FAU. As FSU has nothing to do with cleveland clinic. FAU however has cleveland clinic Florida, the florida branch of cleveland clinic as one of its 9 clinical sites. Secondly, FAU is the one that is PBL and not FSU.

But the answers to these questions if it is indeed an FAU related question is worth

You're right...my bad

I corrected myself Gujudoc... lol
I didn't mean to confuse you....
do you know if they are P/F?
so are they completely PBL or a mixture of both??

FAU is P/F for first two years (the exact words are Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory... same thing). Clinical years are H/HP/P/F (I think the exact words are Honors/High Satisfactory/Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory).
There are lectures and PBL, that is true. I don't think any schools do just PBL without any lectures, which is what your post sounded like.
And one of the...nine?...teaching hospitals students can go to for clinical courses is Cleveland Clinic Florida, so, yes to that as well.

Correct me if I'm wrong, everybody : )

oops...sorry gujudoc! I didnt see that you had already answered him

So I just called and they said they are interviewing til most likely the first week of june.

They said don't believe whoever said they interview til july. I wanted to tell them, yeah whoever said that read it on the FAU website. So they shouldn't publish wrong information on their own website. But whatever.

I highly doubt I'm getting an interview here at this point. If there is realistically only at best only 7-8 weeks of interviews left if you include today and thursday's interviews, and I've not heard at this point then my shot is probably nil.

But they did say that the updates are both there still even if I've deleted one to add another. So I don't know where that previous statement someone made came from.

They really said that they have both updates? That's sort of surprising and I don't know who is providing the inconsistent information. This is the e-mail that I got from someone in Admissions--deleted the name but I can easily PM the name if necessary.

The submit update is a cumulative update where as you can continue making modifications. The size of the update is a max of 2000 character limit. At the end we only see what you see on your screen.
If you delete your first update and submit something new, we wont be able to see what you had submitted the first time around. This gives applicants the ability to modify or retract their update if needed.

Best Regards,

Anyways, regardless, I'm just crossing my fingers that something happens between here and FSU last minute. As a FL resident, I've been really frustrated and dismayed at how things have gone in Florida for me (MD-wise) this cycle. I'm just hoping that something will click last minute.

Quick question for you FLA residents.

Did any of you already complete and send FAU's version of the resident form? The prelim. review was completed a few weeks ago and I've been stagnant ever since. I don't know why I think this would help, just wondering if anyone else has yet.

Yah I'm calling back tomorrow when it is a non interview day and asking to speak to someone more specifically on the matter. Also, I agree with you on the inconsistencies with the school admissions office. Like the whole thing about saying its a lie to say til July but then they say that in their own website. They should probably update the website saying til first week of June.

Funny to read all of this cuz yesterday I was told that they will interview through June and would expand onto July only if necessary.

I'm still hoping to get an interview invite :/ I wonder how many more dates are yet to be filled and when they normally send out the invites...

Does anyone know if they video tape lectures like other schools do?

I suspect they don't because they made a big point of dissuading people who want to just sit in the back of the class and not participate. But I guess they might make it available in case someone has to miss a class due to illness.
