Hey! ,
I wasn't able to stop by last friday , I usually make a point of trying to stop by on interview days to be available, but I had to do something at one of the local hospitals :/
As far as Step 1, according to their plan we are actually supposed to take it at the end of our 3rd year, not our 2nd. That is a difference between us and a number of other places. As far as the resources though, they will give us a 6 week block off to study before taking the Step 1, as well as they will be signing us up for a prep program known as Doctors in Training, as well as giving us access to a question bank(USMLERx or USMLEWorld, they havent decided the specifics of the question bank yet)
As far as abroad rotations/international electives, I honestly wouldn't know the specifics however I do know they are pretty accommodating here, so I don't think you would have a problem doing that, but again I dont know the specifics.
As far as a typical day, today we had our structure and function final...so it was a free day to gain some sanity!! 😀 , however it depends on the specific class module we are in but for example we have pharmacology next so our days are MF 9-12 Tues 9-5( we do to a clinical skills center after lecture in order to learn history+physicals) WThr 9-3 ( in addition to pharm we have epidemiology for 2 hrs wednesday and social medicine for 2 hrs thursday). Lectures are recorded on a program called tegirty which I love and use way too often for when I sleep in. As far as PBL that varies course to course...I wouldnt say its a pillar of the curriculum, but you will definately get your fill of PBL in addition to didactic learning here. For pharm, we have 2 PBL cases/ week.
If you are concerned about anything/ have more in depth or private questions you dont want associated with SDN you can inbox me and i will give you my email...I am very open and honest about the experience and know FIUs strengths and weaknesses...at the end of the day you want to make sure your strengths match the schools strengths no matter where you go, so I'm all about that.
