Hey guys,

So my "Secondary Application Completed" was on 9/30.

I have yet to receive any word or anything about "Preliminary Review Completed".

Do they not send any other email after the Secondary Application Completed email? Should I contact the school or anything or is anyone else in the same boat as me?

Thanks for all your help!

I dont believe they reject until later in the cycle. However, I was at that stage for over a month before receiving my interview invite. Don't give up hope! They interview through end of Jan/Feb.

Apparently, there is no order whatsoever in admission committee scheduling days, just FYI.

hey blackwell, did you decide that you are definitely going to fiu? I noticed your new siggy!

I was accepted at FIU on 10/16, and my boyfriend just got into University of Miami law school today! Looks like we're headed to Miami for sure now! I could not be more thrilled- this school is the best 🙂

We are both from Indiana (and have lived in IN our entire lives), so it's a pretty drastic move... any tips on relocation from people in the area? I've spent less than a week in Miami in my entire life... so I'm definitely in need of advice.

things to know about miami:

-its warm almost all of the time. By warm i mean 60+ degrees with avg around high 70 /low 80. U wont need thick clothes is what im saying lol

-Its moist, rains quite a bit. BUT the rain is warm unlike the north, so its actually not a big deal if u get wet... it actually feels good!

-probably should stay away from liberty city

-minorities are the majority here (with the expection of asian people. Seriously i dont know why miami has so few of them).

-spanish... learn it. At least a few words. Everyone here speaks spanish. Speaking to the lunch lady in spanish might mean the difference between getting the big piece of chicken and getting the small cold one at the bottom of the tray.

-I95 and the Turnpike are going to be your friends for driving up and down the east and west parts of miami respectively. You can go faster on the turnpike but there are usually a lot more cops handing out $500 fines is you are so much as 1mph over the speed limit

-Beaches! Beaches everywhere!

Thats all i can think of for now. If u have anything in specific u want to ask let me know 🙂

Grats again on getting in 😀

I am about 99.9% sure I'm going here. I'm very excited about it. 🙂 I am also very excited to start learning Spanish again. I haven't touched it since my 3 years in high school.

So if you only had one day in Miami, how would you spend it? (a Saturday)

My status finally changed to admissions committee review completed. It says my status changed back in mid October but I've checked it since then & I think it changed more recently than that. So my question is how long after you got that status did you hear back about your decision? Hoping for good news soon! If you're put on hold do they email you at all?

well speaking for me, it took about 3weeks to hear their decision. However, this was prior to october 15, the date which they can legally tell you what they decided. However, this should give u a time frame at least - probably not more than 3 weeks.

Good luck 🙂

I interviewed here recently, and I've got to say that the admissions staff are VERY friendly and personable, and the interview was very calm and enjoyable. For everyone that is concerned with FIU being a new school, they seem to be doing a pretty good job at getting accredited and expanding quickly; a great selling point for me was that they do 3rd and 4th year rotations at several (great) institutions.

Hope this helps and good luck on your interviews!

Hi guys this is my first post! I was looking through the thread and I believe nobody has received any news since mid October? I was wondering if they were waiting until a specific date to give out another round of acceptances??? I've been stuck at "Admissions Committee Review Completed" and I'm getting paranoid about being wait-listed 🙁

I think the best thing to do is call them. They are super nice and always answer the phone. They were even nice to me when I called all crazy-neurotic about the 10/15-16 dilemma. Good luck! 👍

Thanks! I'll give them a call tomorrow

Hey guys.
I interviewed in September, but have yet to hear back from FIU. My status has changed to Admissions Committee Completed. Unfortunately, I have reason to believe that if this is your status for more than a day or so, you probably are final pooled. I say this after looking at last year's page, as well as knowing that everyone i know who was accepted this cycle heard the next day after their admissions committee review took place. Nonetheless, it's not definite until we get an email, and as I am in the same boat as several of you, I wish us the very best of luck. Keep the faith!

I also interviewed in September. My status has been Admissions Committee Reviewed Completed for over two weeks. When I called the admissions office to ask for available updates, they said they were not allowed to give out any official information over phone, but I should receive an email back from them within the next two weeks. I tend to take your viewpoint though Hoping. I think not hearing back soon after your application has been reviewed does not bode well for us. I have no data or references to back that up, but I do have a friend who interviewed a week before me and received an acceptance email the day after his review was completed.

Regardless, I'm still hoping for the best. I wish everyone else that is also waiting for news well.

I called and they said 10-14 days to get a decision, I hope you guys are wrong! :'(

i interviewed late September. I still have admissions committee scheduled 10/6 on my status. I have no idea when I'll hear a decision. Hopefully soon.

Congrats to the people who have been accepted so far. If you were accepted could you please list your stats and if you are IS or OOS. I'm trying to get an idea of who gets accepted this early in the process. Thanks!

I think some people have already posted on earlier pages. You might want to check.

cgpa 3.35, sgpa 3.1 (very steep upward trend over the last 3 years)
MCAT 28Q (10VR, 10BS, 8PS)

I am not the norm statwise. I believe my above average ECs and my path to medicine are the main reasons I'm lucky enough to be in the position I am.

Good luck, everyone! :xf:

If you did/do end up waitlisted, don't be too depressed. Several people got in off the waitlist last year👍

OOS, 29 Mcat, 3.82 GPA. (I was surprised by the acceptance, especially so early, given my Mcat... I think they look a lot at the applicant as a whole, and not just your numbers.)

GRATS!!!! :highfive:

Was FIU your first choice?

grats 🙂 its a wonderful feeling knowing u dont have to worry about it anymore isnt it? 😛

FIU is definitely up there! I love Miami, campus is less than two hours from my parent's house, and I can be in Key Largo scuba diving in less than an hour after class! More importantly, I got the feeling that everyone at FIU really cares about making the medical school experience as amazing for the students as possible, and the PBL and ability to work at so many hospitals is fantastic. south beach trip during orientation week anyone?😀

That sounds promising. 🙂 I look forward to meeting you!

Is it worth it to send in secondary now?
29N, 3.8c, 3.7s, average EC's

My status changed to Admissions Committee Review Completed back on 10/26. It's been almost 4 weeks with still no response. Probably on hold or something, but should I call?

yea go for it. You have a pretty good chance.

Try calling. Chances are though, u will get a response in a week or 2 but you could call to confirm.

You should definitely call you don't loose anything if anything they will see you are interested. They are really helpful and willing to answer your questions I'm in the same situation but when I called they said they would give me an answer two weeks after my status changed and it hasn't been two weeks so I'm still waiting but you are past due for a couple of days. Don't lose hope you might get an acceptance soon! Good luck:luck:

I interviewed in early September and my Review was completed almost two weeks ago.

I see that several people that interviewed significantly later than I did have been receiving acceptances so I am going to assume that I have probably been wait-listed, or at the very least put on a post-interview hold.

Has anyone received emails/letters telling them they are on the wait-list?

And does anyone know what FIU's update policy is?

Any information is very much appreciated.

Thanks.

I interviewed in the last week of September, but the review has not been completed. I called and was told that I would know in December.
Any one in the same situation?

Has anyone who was accepted received anything other than a 1 page acceptance letter? I'm going to call tomorrow to see if there's anything else that needs to be done. I think I'm just paranoid about them calling me and saying "oh, we're sorry, you missed a deadline." >.<

Hey buddy I'm waiting for an invite but don't know if my grades are high enough. Could you please share with me your stats to see how comparable I am for FIU. Thanks much.

I have only gotten the 1 page acceptance letter (actually, I got two of those- my first name was spelled with a typo on the first one, so they sent me a second one with the correct spelling). I was hoping for more info to read through!! Let me know what they say when you call- I've been worrying about the same thing.
