For those of you who have interviewed already, what is it like? What kind of questions do they ask?

Mine was very relaxed, and with an MS4. Why medicine / Why Georgetown / Tell me about your shadowing experience / this experience. They're blind to your grades and MCAT, and just have your essay/activities. Seems like a lot of them don't get a chance to really read through it, but I've also heard that some people encounter interviewers who know their application pretty well.

It was very friendly, Ms. Sullivan's presentation was pretty awesome-- I don't really get how people can blow that off, everything she said was true and founded upon 20+ years experience seeing people go through medical school-- and the school was impressive overall. As for it being $300k worth of impressive? That's a decision I'll have to make later (hopefully).

As has been said before, it seems like if you get an interview and don't fail in an epic manner, you're likely to be waitlisted. Then you write letters. Interesting system, seems to generate a class that wants to be there.

Hi,

Is anyone else having troubles with the Georgetown secondary application? I enter in my PIN and password but clicking login brings be back to the login screen.

Thanks!

Did you just get the email or are you trying to use your login from a past year? I had that problem when I tried to login within minutes of receiving the invitation - it took about 12 hours before I could actually access the secondary.

really? most people are waitlisted after the interview? is that what they told you during your interview day?

I don't understand... what do you mean write letters?

^^^ If you are waitlisted, (or if time goes by and you have not been invited for an interview) you should write "letters", essentially updating your information, telling the school of any new accomplishments and whatever other bull**** you can think of. Schools like this because they get the feeling that the student is "really interested in going there", especially when by that time you are likely to have had interviews and even acceptances elsewhere....

A classic school into this is U Chicago...

Do you send the letters by mail? or by email?

for those of you who have interviewed, do you know the name of the "interview coordinator"?

To those who have interviewed at Georgetown so far... what are you planning to do/have you done for thank you notes? (i.e. Email vs. hand-written; sending to interviewer, Brandon Schneider, Mrs. Sullivan, or some combination of the above). GL everyone. 👍

grats to the people that got interviews already!

for all those people who are still waiting and have been complete for almost a month -- any of you plan on sending an update letter soon?

Brandon C Schneider. Cool guy.

E-mail [email protected].

hm.. that's not who i was thinking of (i looked up brandon c. schneider's picture online, and he isn't the person i met who introduced himself as the interview coordinator). the person i met was youngish, blond hair, walked my interview group down to the breakfast, spoke a little bit before dr. sullivan, etc. anyone catch his name/ know who i am talking about?

@baileybrown

I know the interview coordinators first name is Steve (the young, blond, easy going guy). No ideas on a last name though...

Next round of interview invites should be coming out within the hour. Fingers crossed...

8 am came and went with no news.... Tragedy.

Did anyone get invites today????
I was completed 8/6 and was sure I was either gonna get rejected or invited for interview today............nothing.

how do you guys know the invites are going out today?

They usually go out on thursdays (that was the pattern at least) who knows if the shorten week changed it though...

hmm well i wasn't complete until 8/18 so i doubt i'd be hearing anything today even if the invites did go out...

Same and same. :scared: That is a good point about Labor Day though.

Actually I think it's every other Thursday, or at least that's been the pattern thus far. It was every other week last year too, though a different day of the week. I don't think rejections come out on Thursdays, just invites. Anyway, I forgot about Labor Day as well. Maybe that will delay things a bit.

I heard Georgetown's grading system makes it one of the most stressful schools. Thoughts?

Good to know about the rejections.

If I remember correctly, there were no invites last Thursday, so today's prediction was based on the "every other Thursday" pattern.

According to Georgetown's website, there is absolutely nothing unique about the school and nothing that they are proud of.....If they can't think of anything to write on their own secondary, how the hell am I!!!

at the interview Mrs. Sullivan talked about how 85% of Gtown's student body collaborate and help each other with academics. the other 15% being gunners. I also asked students about this and they thought it was not like undergrad, most ppl are willing to help.

As a current first year I can definitely say that the student body as a whole is very collaborative. I bet there are some gunners somewhere but everyone I have met wants everyone else to succeed. The grading system helps you pace how you are doing compared to the rest of the students but in the end a "pass" is just fine. I think a lot of the stigma of gtown as over competitive comes from the SMP program because they need to consistently get honors or high passes to get into med schools. If you have any questions about the school do not hesitate to ask, I really love it here.

yea I had a very positive experience when i visited gtown. everyone really wanted to be there and you could tell.
really hoping to hear something good in November :xf:

@vitty. From what i remember Mrs. Sullivan said that if you get waitlisted you should be sending a letter of interest. my question is, is it appropriate to send any before the results come out?? I just want to let them know how interested i am.

Yeah, I know what you are thinking and I don't think it will hurt but I also doubt it will help. I was in your exact same position, after gtown I was sure I wanted to go there and I was eventually placed on the waitlist. By the way, get used to waiting because while georgetown has many great qualities, punctuality is not one of them 🙂. I wrote a letter and a few months later I got off the waitlist. I would say hold tight for now, go to your other interviews and be prepared, if necessary, to write a letter saying why you really want to come here. I know the wait sucks but it is worth it when you get into a program you like.

If there are any current Georgetown students lurking on this forum, I need a bit of help. I am scheduled for an interview at Georgetown on Thursday, September 23rd. I just sent in my request for the student hosting program yesterday. I'm under the two week buffer zone, so I'm not really sure if that will work out. Would it be possible for me to stay with anyone on the 22nd? Please personal message me if this will work. Thanks in advance!

thanks for the advice. guess ill sit tight for now 🙂

Can any current GT students elaborate on what you like/dislike about your school? I'd like to hear comments from anyone who has interviewed, as well.

I'm amazed by the negative perspectives on this board, but I'm not sure what to believe. What's most surprising is that it seems the majority of other school threads have students on them going to great lengths to rave about their school and have nothing but positive things to say about it. This one doesn't, and is painted in more a negative light.

I'm sort of the on the fence about applying here with the posts about subpar facilities, hyper-competitive atmosphere (this one really gets me), poor student evaluations, and lower retention rates (relatively speaking). Combined with the high app fee, lengthy essay, astronomic number of applicants, and just being sick of writing, I'm not sure what to do.

Wow, I feel the same exact way as you. I have heard so much negative from both students and non-students that I wasn't even sure about applying here.

Looks like there is no one here to defend it. It's strange because there doesn't seem to be so much negative stuff posted in last year's thread, from what I've read. 😕

i'm on the fence about applying here too. i've heard a lot of negative things on sdn and from med students i've talked to. the one thing that really turns me off is the over-competitiveness. i think the issue was addressed a little earlier, but from what students have told me, the students tend to be gunners/very competitive. can any current gtown students on here comment about that?

Can someone resend me the link for the login site for the secondaries. I already submitted my secondary and still have my username and password, but I deleted the email with the link for my profile.

Thanks

yeah, that would make medical school some type of long Machiavellian project.

I'm a first year med student and I love it here. The people are great. I really mean that. I like all of my classmates and I don't know of a single gunner. I had tough choices to make between GT and a couple of other really good schools, and I have no regrets.

That said, here is what I'd advise people to weigh heavily when choosing schools:

1. Do they audiotape or videotape lectures? GT audiotapes lectures and you have the powerpoints online. I wish that they videotaped it because I'm not looking forward to histology, where the teacher will point at pictures. Still, I would be miserable without the audiotapes. This is KEY, really key.

2. Does the school require you to attend class? How many hours of lecture is there a day? This is also key and should be one of your #1 concerns. Med school classes are MUCH MUCH faster paced than undergrad, and a big chunk of you will choose to go over the lectures more slowly at home using the audio or videotapes (if your school provides them). GT does not require you to go to class and there is usually about 3 hours of lecture per day. I go to "class" at home and spend about 2.5 hours on each lecture (pausing to look things up, pausing to look more things up, backtracking, etc.) on my first run through.

Those are really the most important points and will, in my opinion, make the biggest difference to you both in terms of academic and lifestyle. The other big points are:

3. Is it geared toward the residency you want? Prestigious residencies will be pulling disproportionately from prestigious med schools. East Coast residencies will be pulling disproportionately from East Coast med schools. A residency associated with a med school will pull largely from its own med school.

4. Location: are there nice places to sit and study? (A pretty campus, libraries with a view--this is a big plus for Georgetown, because you have access to a lot of very beautiful facilities built for the other professional schools that are next to the med school. The med school itself is drab, but I never study there since I have a dozen storybook-perfect options on campus.)

5. Price--but do not think about this until the financial aid packages come in; the least expensive schools are often also the stingiest, so you may be surprised.

Everyone values things differently, but the things that seem important now might not be as important when you start. Remember points 1 and 2. They are crucial!

HELP!!!

I can't access the secondary
When I enter login info and try to proceed, it just loops me back to the login site

Yes, my login info/pass is absolutely correct, nothing pops up. I'm just redirected to the same page~~

Any way I can contact them? I've no real idea...
