I just got a phone call today inviting me to interview and they gave me that spot. THANK YOU!:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Do you mind sharing your complete date and stats?

Do you mind sharing your complete date and stats?

complete sometime around the end of September (one of my letters writers was 2 months later than expected, my secondary was received at the end of July). OOS - don't think that matters - GPA 3.5, sciGPA 3.3, MCAT 32Q. Decent, but not the world's best extra curriculars. I'm so thrilled! Good luck!

I'd like to just mention, however, that I do not think other people's stats matter. I stupidly applied to schools based on their average matriculating GPA/MCAT scores, since mine aren't that great (I applied to ones with lower averages thinking I'd have a better chance of getting in). The funny thing is that many of the "lower rated" schools have rejected me and some of the supposedly more selective schools I applied to gave me interviews. In general I really am starting to buy into the idea that they actually look things like EC's, essays and personal interests (maybe this was a no brainer for some of you). The admissions director at the first school I interviewed at said that the applicant/medschool admissions process is like a marriage - it's not whether you're qualified but how good of a fit you are. The schools that I've been invited to interview at were generally the ones that I really felt I was a good fit for.

Hopefully this helps calm your nerves about the whole thing!

Thanks and congrats! I was complete mid-October, I hope to hear back soon! I wonder if they review files randomly or chronologically.

oh wow congratz... did you have like out-of-this-world EC's??

So I have just been reading through this thread and thought I would share my experiences and hopefully it will calm some of the nerves. I am a reapplicant this year after being waitlisted at a few schools last year, loyola being one of them.

I had my application in EXTREMELY late last year... primary in sometime around end of september and secondary in around december. I waited around for a few months and ended up getting an interview at the middle to end of march, so it took about 3 months. I eventually ended up on the waitlist after all of that.

So what I take out of it are these things.
1. It is never to late to submit an app, if you have the money to spare.
2. Hang in there if you have been waiting awhile, the interviews will come
3. I have been accepted to my state school this year and have interviewed at others, so if you don't get in this year, stick with it, make the suggested improvements and you'll end up somewhere.

Sorry for the long post but just some thoughts. I am eagerly awaiting a call for an interview at Loyola as well and from my experiences interviewing here last year, would love to go here!

No - I have very stereotypical pre-med EC's - volunteered at a hospital for a while, worked as an ER scribe for a year while in school, now work for a biotech company, college sports (triathlon team and competitive sailing), Two of my three letter writers also knew me for over three years during undergrad, who knows maybe that helped... but the fact that you ask shows you're not very impressed with my stats (thanks, don't worry I'm no either).

As I mentioned before:

"I'd like to just mention, however, that I do not think other people's stats matter. I think coming from another Jesuit institution, and stressing my interest in service to the underprivileged probably helped in gaining me an interview here, and that may be a reason that perhaps I'm a good fit for Loyola? Sorry if this sounded scathing or pretentious or patronizing. Best of luck:luck:!

Got called for an interview yesterday :). Looks like the earliest date for interviews at this point is February 22nd. Anybody else hear anything lately?

congrats to all those that got interviews :)

I just interviewed there and fell in complete love with the school, the staff, faculty members! (Hopefully they fell in love with me).

Best of luck everyone!

Hey everyone, I know this is a HUGE stretch but I'm desperate... I currently have an interview scheduled for Friday, February 4. A family thing just came up and I really need to be home that day/weekend. I am wondering if anyone has an interview scheduled for that Monday, February 6 if we could possibly swap (I'm not even sure if the school will allow that?). I'm asking for that particular day because I already have that weekend off from work, so taking just another day shouldn't be too hard to get.

If anyone is willing to help me out, I would VERY MUCH appreciate it! You can PM me or email me at [email protected]

Thanks so much in advance :)

how close do you need to be to Loyola for an appropriate in the area letter? I am interviewing in a month at The medical college of wisconsin and coming from california, I'm not sure if it would be appropriate to send Loyola an in the area letter.

If you don't hear soon, call the admissions office and explain your situation. They are very understanding if it is indeed a serious situation. :)

I would suspect that you cannot trade your interview days. Just call the admissions office as soon as possible and they should be understanding.

They say in the e-mailed interat view information .pdf that they will attempt to reschedule your interview as long as you contact them at least a week before the interview. Hope that helps! Anybody else on pins and needles waiting for next Monday to roll around? I interviewed last Tuesday, and this school just blew me away!

What blew you away? I'm interviewing this Friday and I can hardly wait!

Also, I know this school has a quick turn around time (usually the following Monday). Does anyone think I could hear back the Monday after a Friday interview? That would be unreal...

The people there are all really sociable and enthusiastic! Usually people in medical school don't seem overly happy because of the workload, but I think that all the camaraderie here eases it up a bit. One of my tour-guides said that you can hardly miss a class without four people sending you the notes. I didn't spot one person with tussled hair and bloodshot eyes from overwork! Then again, I didn't see any M3's. haha.

Good luck on your interview! I would imagine you could hear news next week, but you can just ask your interviewer to be sure.

Oh yeah, and the gym is awesome.

Was I blind during my interview... do I not remember seeing a library at this school?

Anyways, I absolutely loved this school after my interview - I'm very glad I went because I almost thought about canceling. It is now my top choice school and I hope I get in.

What are your opinions on this school's ability to turn out very good specialty physicians? They seem like they are more primary-care oriented. I am interested in an orthopedic/sports medicine career.

There is a library in the hospital that some tour guides don't like to go to since it is a bit of a haul, but we are required to go there for some assignments.

The match results of 2004 and 2005: http://www.stritch.luc.edu/node/65. Clearly lots of primary, but I think that there lists are more the result of the people in a class rather than the schools ability to churn out PCPs or specialists. I think that there is a list of the more recent matches at school that I will look around for today.

I'm not sure if any of you here interviewed on the 13th, but tomorrow is the next committee meeting where they decide our fates. Does anyone know how long the turn around time is between the decision and when they let us know?

3 days, most certainly not more than a week. Many people find out the evening of the board meeting by phone call.

hey all,

do we mail in that manilla colored financial aid even before we hear back about acceptances? I interviewed 1/11/11 and haven't sent mine in yet.

You don't have to do it before acceptances go out, but if you are accepted or waitlisted you should send in all your financial aid information.

By the way, I interviewed on 1/11/11 too! I was the guy in the gray suit. You should PM me.

Got my rejection yesterday as well, kind of crushed. Was REALLY hoping for an interview here.

I still haven't heard anything. My status page has some 'status pending'-type message. Second, can you give us a few more details? Did you get a call (and if so, who from? interviewer or adcom?), and did your status page change?

Dying to find out... really loved the school and the city when I visited!!!

Hey! So I haven't gotten online to the status page at all, so I can't help w that :/ . I was called by Dr. Muraskas (the dean of admissions) at 515ish I think Central time. I interviewed on 1/15/11

Yeah, I interviewed 1/12. Was super-hoping for good news on Monday/Tuesday but I've all but lost hope at this point. Technically, they said not to freak your freak until you get the letter cuz "sometimes they don't have a chance to call"...but I'm not all too optimistic anymore. So bummed; thought the interview went swimmingly and that I was getting the nod :/ Sad.

Definitely let me know if you hear anything, elementals!

Hey all.

Complete: October 29th

Still have this status: "Your file is complete and under review by the Committee on Admissions."

Love the school but still awaiting an interview. Does anyone have any guess on how many they've interviewed so far / how many interview slots are left?

Thank you! Congratulations to all of you accepted!

Oh, I wouldn't throw in the towel just yet! I have checked all the committee meeting dates on SDN ( because I'm worried too? haha. ). There are multiple times when it is not as simple as if you don't get a call one day then you're not in. In fact, I saw times they didn't call at all or called Friday-ish. Until we get that letter, it's still up in the air. :)

iPod: I enjoy your optimism. In honor of it, I will try to remain positive. Thanks for the boost - let me know if you hear anything; good luck!!

Just got accepted to my home state school, so I'll be giving up my acceptance. Hopefully it goes to one of you very deserving SDNers! Loyola is an awesome med school, best of luck!

Congrats!!

I was complete sometime in October I believe...not rejected yet. I've been checking a LOT because I was sure it was coming. IDK. They do interview into April I've heard. :xf:

Oh god, Loyola, at this point please just tell me something -- waitlist or reject, at least I'll know! *LOL*

(And yes, I know the motto is "don't give up hope", but I'd rather be very pleasantly surprised than absolutely crushed again!)

I seems like when/how often the committee meets to decide acceptances is can be found in the loyola app threads...but can anyone comment on the how the committee decides to invite for interviews? i.e. do they review files for interview the same time they review files who have completed interviews?

Complete 9/20 and still under review :xf:

A.

So, still haven't gotten the letter...but I have a friend who is a student there and who spoke with admissions; confirmed that I've been wait-listed. Super bummer.
