Not to mention, you really DON'T have to take out all of the money designated for living expenses. That's just the most you could take out without some kind of exception. And FWIW, they have a deal with Welch Allyn and get you top of the line everything at below cost (built into your fees of course), so that it's not just equipment to use during your lowly years as a medical student, but equipment you can use when you become a doctor as well because of how high-end everything is.

Then again, if it comes to choosing a school based on equipment, you may not be going about it the right way, lol

For current students, what are some other neighborhoods that are close to the medical school, besides the popular Oak/Forest Park? I'm trying to look online for apartments and want to at least look into other areas. Thanks!

They are listed several times in this thread but some other options are:

Westchester, Berwyn, River Forest, North Riverside, La Grange Park

Huh 70k? CoA is 67k. 65k if you remain on your parent's insurance and decline the institutional plan. Things get even lower considering the cost of living in many parts around Stritch is not very high.

You completely forgot to subtract off the money you save by not having to buy an otoscope, an opthalmoscope, and a blood pressure cuff!

Hi incoming Loyola students!
I'm gonna push this one last time...http://www.facebook.com/StritchMedicine.
The admissions staff endorses this forum for discussion. We are very quick about answering questions. Answers come from all stduents within the medical school (M1-M4). Nearly 300 medical students receive updates on their facebook page and are willing to help you out. If you have a question, it WILL get answered.

Check it out. "LIKE" it!

does Loyola let you defer your acceptance?

if so, how easy is it to go about doing this?

thanks!

Any word from or about meeting to discuss the alternate list now?

I spoke with a friend of mine at loyola today..apparently two years ago she got a call 2 days after the 15th and she was told that she was 'on top of the list'. So I'd suspect they are meeting today and/or tomorrow and calls will go out the middle-end of this week...hopefully.

I'm anxiously awaiting any word from my top choice!

Just got and returned the confirmation that I want to remain on the alternate list. My fingers are crossed so hard I'm cutting off circulation...

Apparently there has been some minor movement, but the class is full right now at 150.

Holy crap!!! How'd you hear about it? Did you call and ask?? So nervous!! I want in so bad. Come on stritch love me back!

I emailed, just asking when we could expect to see waitlist movement - if it would be right away, or not until all the alternate list forms are back on May 27. They said right away and a little had happened already.

To be honest I'm kind of dreading it - I mean, I really really really hope to get in, but I was on the waitlist last year and there was not a lot of movement.

I know what you mean. I just hope I find out soon so I can make plans either way. Two years ago, when my friend and I applied she got in they had a lot of waitlist movement, and i heard last year there wasn't very much at all like you said. That makes me nervous...

Crossing my fingers to hope for a lot of movement this year...

I have to say it's odd that the WL rankings are confidential, considering Loyola stands out for its friendly/supportive/open ethos. Many other schools tell you where you stand. Even disclosing what WL "tier" you're on would be really helpful.

I believe this is because it is constantly changing...they made it very clear to me on interview day that continued interest plays a HUGE part in where you sit on the WL...giving you a specific ranking or "tier" would not make sense given this, since it is always changing...

👍 send in those letters of intent!

Yeah I remember a Dean saying they do not even seriously look at waitlisted applicants who haven't sent in a letter of interest/intent.

Shhh!! Don't tell anyone about the importance of LOIs... 😉

Has anyone heard anything in the past few days??

Make it scented like Elle Woods in legally blonde. That will set you apart:laugh:!

I hope yours goes to the top of the pile Thorn :luck:

Nothing yet - though I haven't called or anything. I did just submit another letter though. Personally, I've managed to get my email attachments to be scented.

I heard of at least one person getting a call today off the waitlist, hope you guys hear something, good luck!!

I think i'm developing a loyola related stress disorder :scared:

Anyone heard anything recently?

Stayed home at my in-state school, it ended up being about 1/2 the price of LUC. I loved it there though it was agonizing to make that call to Dean Jones. Best of luck to you guys and I hope you all get to experience LUC it is a special place

Anyone get a call for SquashDoc's spot?

I wish! I don't know if it's 1:1...it seems like there waitlist is moving especially slowly this year... Maybe they wait until a few people drop and then review a few applications? I have no idea.

Good luck squash! I'm sure you will be happy staying close to home.

I wish the degree to which I obsessively follow this thread should count as a sign of interest. 😉

Also, anyone else hoping for some sort of massive waitlist movement still or should i just let that dream die..?

I got taken off the waitlist last thursday via a phone call and happily accepted it. So do know that the waitlist is moving. However, I should say that the person who called me from the Admissions Office mentioned that, though there has been some movement, it had been rather slow. Best of luck to everyone!!

i hope there's a big wave of people withdrawing soon. my friend got accepted off of the waiting list today. here's to hoping!:xf::luck:

Hey guys,
I got an email today about the Masters of Science in Physiology program at LUC. Does anyone know anything about it or can you recommend it as a good option? I am on a couple of waitlists right now, and while I'm hoping to get in still, I want to have a back-up plan. Do you think this program would be useful? Thanks in advance!

I think the Master's of Arts in Medical Science (MAMS) program at LUC is a better option. They have like a 90% acceptance rate out of the program and if you get above a 3.5 and a 29 MCAT you get an automatic interview to Stritch.

I'm a former MAMS graduate btw.

Just FYI I called the admissions office the other day to ask them a few questions and they said that there are definitely more spots opening up in the class but couldn't say how many/ when they will be offering them.

It's not over til it's over.

Any news from anyone?

I've already submitted next year's AMCAS in preparation for not getting in...

Haven't heard a word.. and i haven't heard about anyone i know getting in either...hopefully we'll here something sooner rather than later. July is rapidly approaching.

Good luck Dr.Laut!

Just FYI, someone got off the waitlist the first day of orientation last year when another student didn't show up/ called to withdraw. It's always good to have back up plans, etc. but just wanted to reiterate it's not over until its over!

I'm pretty sure we got two in off the waitlist on the day of orientation my year.

Yeah we have quite a few MAMS students in our class. They do well, and are cool. 🙂

Does anyone know the next time the adcom is meeting to review people on the alternate list? And do they review all waitlisted applications each time they meet? Having a perpetual anxiety attack waiting!

So I got some bad news today guys from an inside source... It looks like Loyola's class is full at the moment and they don't expect anymore movement unless a student unexpectedly defers/decides not to attend or doesn't show up for the first day of orientation..

Considering it's the middle of june i have to assume that the waitlist for most of the country has stabilized as well...that meaning that there's a slim-to-none chance of getting of the WL at this point.
