Has anyone heard of any more movement? Last I heard 15 had been pulled off the waitlist... 5-10 spots left! :xf:

As of last Monday every spot had been offered, but not all spots had been finalized.

Hey guys...reading about the school and these comments gets me soooo excited...mayo is my dream school...and i feel that it fits me quite well...but...what does it take to get in?! I'm taking my MCAT in July...is that too late for 2012 cycle? I would really appreciate any help with this...

Mayo looks at alot more than MCAT score. You'll need to probably meet a threshold (although I don't know this exactly --- perhaps 32 to be competitively considered), but Mayo places alot of emphasis on the activity list before even asking for letters from you or reading your PS. As for July MCAT, probably not too late. That means your scores will be available in late August --- not early but definitely not late either (provided the rest of your application is complete by that time). There is no secondary so no turnaround time to worry about there.

Might I suggest moving to the 2011-2012 thread in 2011-2012 Allopathic Discussions?

I would say July is a little late for Mayo. Everywhere else seemed to be fine, but because the interview season is done by December there, the whole process seems to move much earlier. I took the MCAT in July (end), which meant my scores were not ready until Sept 1st. I submitted AMCAS in early June, so everything was done pretty early (minus MCAT). I had my letters of rec pulled here, which took about a month for Mayo to process, and then they said that I was a little late in the season to get an interview, that it became much more competitive as the season went on.

Just my two cents- not sure how late in July you are talking. If its possible for you to take it earlier, and Mayo is your top choice, you may want to consider it. Best of luck!

Call the office- they are SUPER helpful (definitely among the nicest of admissions staff I've spoken with)

Thanks Wisco1 and me1234...I really appreciate you guys taking time to reply...I did check out the newer thread...
me1234...if you don't mind me asking...did you say that you got a LOR request from Mayo even before your MCAT scores came out? And if so..what sort of an MCAT score do you think they are looking for?
Sorry if I'm asking too many questions...

Hey! I think I can answer the MCAT part of that question. The MCAT is not a make-it-or break it factor for Mayo unless it is very, very low. I know kids that have been successful with a 27+. If your MCAT was that low, i assume you would have to pair it with a pretty awesome GPA, but it is doable. As I understand it (and i've attended quite a few Mayo 101 sessions) it is more of a weed-out factor. If your MCAT and GPA combine to a certain number (aka if you have a low MCAT and a high GPA or vice versa you will be fine academically). Everything truly comes down to who you are as a person and what you've accomplished in undergrad.

Mayo focuses very heavily on service. medical, and non-medical volunteer etc... Hope this helps a little. Good Luck!

Just curious if Mayo's wait list is finished moving. I'm ecstatic about where I'm going but have had my fingers crossed for Mayo since being waitlisted.

Congrats to those who have received the call!!!

I got the LOR request after my MCAT scores came out. I definitely agree though that they are not only looking at super high MCAT scores, and if you look at MSAR they have taken people with lower than avg MCAT scores for top schools.

Good luck!

I'm in the same boat. From looking at prior year's threads, it would seem were pretty much done - close, but no cigar.

It was certainly a fun ride, and I for one am honored to have been considered.

gl to you and all. Maybe see you in Rochester for residency 🙄

Definitely in the same boat with both of you! I'm excited to start school, but would still move to Rochester in a heartbeat if given a chance. Oh well, here's to a fun ride and still holding onto just a teeny tiny bit of hope until the day orientations start 🙂
