Among the general population, I'm on the 99 percentile of hyperactivity. Among pre-meds? probably 60. I'm sure that there would be some competition for that particular chair.

 Thanks for making my morning EdLongshanks. Love your comment.

Felt similar to you though... My overexcitement to make a good impression definitely had an effect on my normally mellow demeanor. What can you do?

:xf: something positive came out of it. In the end, I feel as though Mayo has a a very good idea of whom they want in their class, and if it was meant to be, the call will come.

:luck: to everyone about to interview/waiting to hear back. Mayo is truly unique in its mission and it was an honor and a pleasure to get the opportunity to see it firsthand.

Very true. Ed - I wouldn't worry about it too much because Mayo really tries to bring in unique individuals with all sorts of backgrounds. Hakuna said it best above.

LOR request this morning! I really hope to get a chance to interview here. I'm glad you guys liked your experience at Mayo.

I'm very glad to see those are still going out. Good luck to you!

btw, talk about hyperactive pre-meds - I see a LOR request go out on Wednesday and the first thing I think is how this might confirm the "most notifications go out on Wednesdays and Thursdays" theory haha. This process is actually pretty enjoyable when you can get past the stress.

Wewewew! LOR Request this morning as well! Fee received 9/7.

Now I can stop checking my email first thing at 6am every morning, at least for a few weeks.

Good luck to you too! When did your LOR request go out? I'm guessing I will have to wait 4-5 weeks at this point to hear about an interview or not. The timeline can't be much longer than that because of the mid-December cutoff for interviews.

I think it'll be longer than 4-5 weeks because it takes approximately that amount of time to confirm your letters. From what I've been reading on this forum it takes another couple of weeks after the confirmation email to hear back about interviews. Hope this helps!

1 month now and still no LOR confirmation. Is it possible the adcoms forgot about mine?

You're not the only one. I received my LOR request 9/10 and haven't received a confirmation email yet. Hang tight!

I was looking at last year's thread, and the LOR/download time was a lot faster towards the end of the cycle. People who had them requested in mid-late October heard back in 2-3 weeks. Granted, they were rejected, but they had a decision.

I'm guessing that the August-September time is the peak time for them in regards to processing primaries/reviewing LOR's. I hope that even if it does end up taking 6 weeks or so for a person like you that had them requested in early September, they are through most of their backlog and it will only take 4 weeks for mine to be processed.

This is all wishful thinking, though, and my hoping can do nothing to accelerate this process. We just have to be patient!

I received fee confirmation on July 29th, and can't seem to find or remember a LOR request (my AMCAS was complete at the time). In any case, I haven't heard a confirmation or anything from them! What gives? Should I bother them?

In fact, I haven't heard from any schools (except that darned "reservations" status from VCU - 38R, IS... I think I'll go complain on that thread...)

Just got rejected (email received 2:41 am ET)

08/06/10 paid fee
08/21/10 LOR request
08/27/10 LOR received email

P.S. the subject line of the rejection email is "Mayo Medical School - Not Selected"

YES! Interview invite. Incredible! Fantastic! I hardly dared dream.

Fee paid 8/9, LOR requested 8/21, received 8/27

Has anyone who's interviewed here received an email saying they've been ranked yet??

Got a LOR Request on 10/6.....the wait begins

Yeah, I interviewed and was ranked three days after my interview.

Does your name begin with a letter early in the alphabet.

I was some discouraged with the number of schools who I hadn't heard from yet, and then I found out that all of the schools discuss their students in alphabetical order. I understand now.

signed, Zulu Zzusibar (No, that's not my real name, but close)

What does it mean that you are ranked? Ranked for the waitlist?

After you interview, the committee meets and decides a rank for you (from 1-5 with 5 being most desirable and 1 least). Once you are ranked, you are eligible for an offer of admission - which could mean being put on hold/rejected later or accepted outright.

Ok finally got the ranked email...2 weeks after my interview. :xf: I hope I get in..... or at least not rejected right away

They said that anyone who interviews will not be rejected till March...so "hold" status till then.

Although I wouldn't give up hope since it seems like half the class comes from the waitlist (I'm just guessing but seems about right from the students I talked to).

I'm guessing only people ranked 5 are accepted in the end?

Incorrect, and that's why Mayo doesn't tell you your rank number. There are various reason why a 4 or even a 3 might get in over a 5 at the end (we're talking waitlist movement - and yes, there is no wait list until later in the year - when you are "on hold", it means they look at your application again each time they make decisions). Mayo needs to build a balanced class like any other school, but with only 42 MD spots they take that balance very seriously. So, for instance, if Mayo accepted 42 students, 25 of them being female, and all 25 women decided to attend while all the boys decided to go elsewhere (this isn't realistic, but just for explanation sake), Mayo might have to pull people from the waitlist with ranks of 4 or even 3 in order get enough guys in the class. This is just an example, but you can see why the ranks aren't the be all end all. Mayo wants a cohesive class as well, so those factors are taken into consideration in accepting people as well. Hope this helps!

I think Nerday got ranked a 5, but I surely didn't 😛. afob's figure of around half is right, to my recollection--about half of us in the c/o 2014 got in off the waitlist.

P.S. Word on the street is that some SDNners who are interviewing here want their student hosts to tell them who Nerday is. Trust me, folks, you'll know her when you meet her. She's hard to miss 😀

Hey got a LOR request yesterday. I think the best part of my application is the extracurriculars and the LOR's from those activities, so hopefully I can make the next cut. I have read that Mayo finishes interviews in December. Any thoughts if I am still too late?

My stats:
MCAT-32
GPA ~3.8 (both science and overall)
OOS
Primary verified-9/8
LOR Request-10/6

Best wishes all!

Nah. Why request the LORs if you are too late? From the recent postings of "half the class came from the wait list" it is clear that early is best, but tardy ain't dead. Go for it and best of luck!

I personally think he's very easy to miss. You could look right over her.

thanks for posting! can you post on this thread when you get the confirmation email, and likewise i'll do the same?
Definitely! We're in this one together.
I'm not going to start worrying until people with LOR request dates after ours are listed as complete.

It's amazing how short jokes made a come back when I started medical school. PremedIowa, watch your back. There is nothing more dangerous than a short person with something to prove. Especially when she has anatomy books heavy enough to crush any man.

So true.

🙁

Hey Mayo peeps!

I'll be interviewing on Monday the 25th but, due to substantial differences in airfare prices, I'm flying in on Saturday (10/23) rather than Sunday. I've got a host lined up for Sunday night, but she's not going to be able to host me Saturday (who knows, with how small the class size is she could very well be one of you). Would any of you be willing to let me crash at your place on Saturday night? PM me if so. 🙂

Even if I have to stay at a hotel the total cost would be cheaper, but I'm always a fan of saving money when possible. Thanks a bunch!

I'm sure this question has been asked before but I can't seem to find an answer in recent posts: how I do go about requesting a student host??
Thanks!

they should have sent you info about it in the emails that followed the interview invite

Hey everyone! I am interviewing on Friday and will be staying around Rochester till Saturday afternoon and wanted to see what people's plans were! Maybe we could organize a dinner Thursday night before interview day? Or do a little Rochester exploration party on Friday/Saturday?

PM me if you're interested!

The admissions office should send you a "welcome" email (I believe they send this sometime after your initial interview invite letter) that includes directions for requesting a student host. Follow the directions, and we will take it from there. You will be notified who your student host is about a week in advance of your interview date. If it's getting scarily close to your interview date and you still haven't gotten this email from the admissions office, feel free to shoot them an email and they can send you these directions.

Usually, the students who are hosting you interviewees will arrange for a meet-up (involving at least dinner) so that all of the interviewing students who are staying with hosts can meet each other and also meet some other students at Mayo. @AshleyC, your student host will be in the loop on this, so just ask her what the plans are.

For anyone who is not staying with a student host but want to meet up before/after your interview, feel free to PM me and I can make sure you are kept in the loop.

Hey guys,

First time poster, so please be nice!

I have my interview at Mayo in a few weeks and was wondering about the interview process. I have been told that I will have one interview with a 4th year or a clinician/researcher and another with an adcom.

If I do so-so (lets say my nervousness gets the best of me) on one and absolutely amazing on the other, will that not-so-amazing interview ruin my chances?

Does the adcom interview matter tinyyyy bit more? (obviously both are important, but is it better to ace the adcom interview?)

thanks!

My opinion: Both of your interviews will matter. Mayo is very team-oriented and really treats students as colleagues. I don't see any reason why they would discount your interview with a 4th year student.

I wouldn't fret too much about how you feel you performed on your interviews. There will be those interviews you think you royally screwed up yet somehow get an admission call, and there will be those you think you rocked but you won't get an admission.

Just go in and be yourself. Be genuine. If you're meant to be at the school, that is where you will end up.

Fail. Got rejected today. Here's the full rundown:
8/6 fee received
8/21 LOR request
8/27 LOR received
10/11 Rejected
Best of luck to everyone still in the running!

Did they send your rejection via e-mail or snail mail. I am in a similar timeline and have not heard anything back yet.

I received an email at 2:41 am today. Yap. From Mayo.
Titled "Mayo Medical School - Not Selected"

Unlike GT, which makes you log on to your account just to find the rejection letter, I didn't even have to click the email.
Hmmm.... Thx!?
