Congratulation crabdoc and medved!! i hope to make a similiar post on this forum the years to come. 🙄

congrats everyone. I interviewed Oct 1st and still no phone call. Just trying to stop that sickening feeling from growing too much.

Just received a "Hold" status email...interviewed on Oct. 4th. Oh man...was really hoping for a phone call today.

I also interviewed on 10/4, did they send you an e-mail first saying that you had been reviewed by the committee, I haven't heard anything from them since the interview, I am hoping they just haven't gotten to my application yet.

Yes, I received my "ranked" email on Thursday night (Oct 14th).

Got the hold status email. Anyone know when the next batch of acceptances are?

MSTP Interview Invite!!! I am super excited!

For those who have visited the school, what is it like? What is rochester like?

I also interviewed on the 4th, but did not get ranked. Apparently our names come too late in the alphabet. Two more weeks before we get our first hint.

Congratulations to you all on the acceptances.

Congrats to those who received acceptances! Must be really exciting and a huge load off your shoulders.

Anyone get an interview invite or post-letter request rejection recently? If so, when did you get your "LOR received" email? I'm just trying to get a sense of if the one month timeline is still accurate.

Hey I got an MSTP interview here too... I'm trying to decide if the 8+ hour trip is worth it. Does anyone know how the research is there? And how it is living in Rochester?

I actually chuckled to myself when I read this. Are you serious? For a possible future MD/PhD, you sure didn't do your research. Mayo is spectacular for research. I mean, common - go to PubMed or whatever engine you use and look up some researchers from the Mayo Clinic. If you come up with any specific research questions I'll forward them to some of our beloved MD/PhD students, but do a little research first.

I don't mean to be rude, it's just that asking if Mayo is "worth" traveling to is equivalent to asking if it's worth traveling to any top school. Mayo is the most selective medical school in the country for a reason (or two or ten). I'm probably just being proud, but there is a lot to be proud of here.

As far as living in Rochester, we are all pretty much deleriously happy. If you are a big city person then you can hit the Twin Cities whenever you want, but we have a lot of fun just staying in town.

I love that you qualify if someone is a "big city person", as if Rochester is for not big city people. That's just another thing that makes me love the school - I miss living in smaller towns/cities! I would love the less dense atmosphere and attitude of Rochester. Definitely a plus and not in any way a negative for me.

For all students who have been accepted (congratulations!), if you use facebook then search for "Mayo Medical School Class of 2015 Accepted Students". I made a group today so you can talk to each other, to current students, etc. This is a good place to ask any questions you have.
Love,
Nerday

The shields of the Mayo logo will tell you where the institution places research. Some schools may have more research funding than us, but I can assure you the institution is very well-funded and has a plethora of opportunities from benchwork to translation and clinical trials.

Yes! Join the facebook group and connect!

Congrats to those who have recently been admitted and :luck: to those still waiting!

Also, for those of you who got accepted and somehow aren't yet convinced that Mayo is the place for you, I would like to preëmpt some questions by saying that although the admissions office does not host a formal revisit weekend, the first-year students will be putting on an "unofficial" revisit for you. Details will be forthcoming as we get closer to next Spring. Join the facebook group if you want the latest details as we work out the plan. Also, we'll be polling the facebook group for input to see what you guys and gals want to get out of the weekend.

Congrats to those who have recently been admitted and :luck: to those still waiting!

If anyone got accepted and isn't convinced that Mayo is for them, please decline your acceptance and give it to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously.

Accepted 10/18 morning as well =DD Super stoked!!

Nerday, I can't find the facebook group. I only found the 2014 accepted group. Is there another title for the group? (BTW, you hosted me when I interviewed there, thanks so much for all the valuable info! Can't wait for "second-look" weekend!)

Congrats!! I'm just dusting off my shoulder here as I realize two of my host students have been accepted so far ;o).

I invited you to the group. If anyone else has trouble finding the group just let me know. PM me your full name and school and I'll find you on facebook to invite you.

Happy Tuesday,
Nerday

He's a troll, Nerday. Ignore him.

So I am guessing if we have not received an interview invite we are in trouble? my understanding was that Mayo moved quickly through applications to give interview invites.

3.82 OOS 30P Good and unique EC's (Lots of diversity/service and research)

I had LOR's requested 9/1 received 9/10 and just waiting since then. Maybe I should give them a call? Send an update letter?

I don't think the game is over for Mayo just yet. I wouldn't be surprised if a great deal of people heard their statuses in the next two weeks. With the 10/15 deadline passing (no more apps), they are probably just approaching getting over the hill of peak workloads, most of which in past several weeks might have been preparing admissions decisions for this week.

Maybe I'm just optimistic, but I have a good feeling for these next two weeks.

9/17 LOR , no confirmation yet

I completely agree with acoustic. This was a peak time for them and it seems from the board that the LOR requests decreased substantially and that interview offers/rejections were slower than before. I think we will all be hearing soon as they get over this hump. I am just speculating but im expecting to hear mid-late november and I think I'm in the last "group" being considered.

Not gunna lie, you Mayo folks got me pretty excited about coming up there this weekend. I mean I already was excited, but you guys have taken it up a notch.

Anyone else gunna be there for a Monday interview?

I'd watch the "gunna" talk. We don't take to kindly to those types 'round here. 😉

And to Nerday: I'm not surprised you have hosted two of the acceptees...I mean you have hosted something like 90+ % of the applicants, right? 😀

Oh, and CONGRATS to those getting the call this week!

Nerday and I were two of those who organized last year's unofficial second look, and if you need (or just want) to see more of Mayo before you get up here plan on being there! It is a GREAT experience.

:luck: everyone!

So 15 students accepted thus far--about 35 seats left. I really hope I get in, I loved what I saw of Mayo.

The Republic of Texas doesn't apologize for the speaking of Texan.

im pretty sure they accept 70-75 outright and then compile a waiting wist after that. Also, I was under the impression that they accept 7-8 every round of admission offers ... how did you hear that they accepted 15?

So, at Mayo, you have gunner's but no gunna's?

And if you and Nerday do the presentation will it be short and loud?

15 - well done indeed! Some played this hand for the middle of the cycle, for better or worse, and that is where I (and the bulk of us) lie. Chip and a chair. If you are still in the game you can still win.

Cole, you aren't the only one intoxicated on Mayo. The more I understand the more I am in love. Friends ask, " You would move your family to Minnesota?". Yep! And then I explain a bit and they nod and say... You betcha.

Now don't be harsh on those of us of diminutive stature. Check out Lynn Hill, first to free climb El Capitan (see pic on avatar)! We should all be so bold.

Congrats to the accepted, thanks to the extraordinarily generous Mayo students, and best hopes for the rest of us.

Actually, I'm no giant myself, and shrinking even more.

From my interview, we were told 72 total acceptances (history has shown that's the typical #) which includes the applicants from the waitlist.

The Republic of Texas doesn't apologize for the speaking of Texan.

But Texan would use "Howdy" and "Ya'll" in every sentence. And what's this "doesn't," did you mean "ain't sorry for talkin' no Texan ya'll?"

Gunna alone is like the New York version of "gunner."

1/2 Texan, 1/2 Mississippian, and 1/2 New Yorker FTW.

😀

Yes, we have no gunna's.

Gunners? maybe... :ninja:

And emphatically yes, I can guarantee loud and short presenters/presentations all around. 🙂

One last thing: don't worry about "how many seats are left."

Unlike some schools, your chances of getting in off the WL at Mayo seemingly has little to do with how many people they take from the list and more to do with who declines their offer for acceptance.

I won't go into any further details than that as it would be speculation on my part, but don't lose hope if you end up as an alternate!

Also, MANY people get accepted within a couple of weeks of the first committee meeting for which they were originally considered. You really will be re-considered at each decision-making juncture.

:luck:

Submitted my payment 2 weeks ago
Am I too late?
The thing with me is, my MCAT score actually dropped 🙁 from a decent one to 30.

Hope I'm not screwed

May I ask how you know 15 offers went out?

Comes directly from Marcy.

As for the fifty seats, during my interview, when Marcy explained the process of what happens after the interview, she said that initially fifty people are granted acceptances. Then, as people decline offers, more seats are given one by one. By the end, around 70 to 75 people have been granted spots in the incoming class. However, only fifty seats are guaranteed--the others depend on whether those who have been given a seat accept or decline. If everyone accepts, then no more spots will be available.

That's all I know, so feel free to fill in.

Thanks, that certainly clears things up. Do you know when the next offers will come and how many there will be?

This is how things worked last year. If you are on hold don't freak out, still definitely a chance. Many of my classmates, myself included were accepted of the waitlist. Not a fun wait, but definitely worth it!!!

We are in the process of organizing details for 2nd look for those who are accepted, so just keep a look out for more info.

Lastly if you are waiting to hear anything after a LOR request stay patient. I know they are overwhelmed by the number of applicants this year so they were still in the process of printing LOR from Sept. Mayo is doing their best to get things done as quickly as they can, but they really do take their time to review each person!

Hope this helps and stay calm!!! It's a long process but one that is worth it 🙂

yahoo!!! I woke up this morning and saw first thing that I had in interview invite from Mayo! =D Does Mayo have a formal student host program? It wasn't mentioned in the invite or the confirmation...

LOR requested 8/31; LOR received 9/30.

so i guess mayo is still giving out interviews? I received a LOR request 8/30 as well, but have yet to hear anything else since they received them.
