I'm pretty sure interviews are complete for the season. I interviewed on the last possible day (April 7). The admissions committee told us we would be notified of a decision at the earliest on May 13; however, I just logged into the admissions portal and saw that I'm put in the hold category. This is a lot earlier than expected! :-(
Does anyone know what is the purpose of a hold?
Less than three weeks! Very impressive.
But yeah. sorry to hear that ivy2. I can't tell you the deeper *purpose* of the hold pool, but all available evidence points towards it existing as a sort of pre-waitlist. In Venn-diagram terms, there are two concentric circles: the larger (hold pool) contains all the interviewees not rejected or offered admission immediately. (~300 out of 550, maybe?) You can be placed there any time between Thankgiving (raises hand) and the first week of May. The inner group would be the ranked waitlist--if past years' examples hold it will contain ~150 people, and should be complete by May 15th. (Though since that's a Sunday this year, it will more likely come out by Friday... [dramatic pause] the 13th!) It's worth pointing out that the waitlist in recent years has been *much* larger than necessary. A number above 40 should most likely be treated as a rejection.
