So does anyone happen to know if it's 13 leftover spots going into the waitlist or have all the spots been offered and now we're waiting for people to drop them?

Well when OHSU came to my school on Tuesday they said at that time they had 13 spots left, but then in the next following days atleast a couple people had posted on this forum that they had gotten accepted so Im assuming because this forum is just a small sample that those 13 acceptances had all been given out before the waitlist was made

No waitlist numberings/drama yet?

I doubt there will be until the 27th (after the deadline for the form to stay on the list is due). I am curious if anyone gave up their spot yesterday, though.

I'm still hoping they made some sort of gigantic error and added previous withdraws to the waitlist...

More realistically though can anyone give some specific info about the exit interviews? It doesn't say anything about it in my email or my status page. We don't have to wait longer than others if we've been waitlisted do we? About six times a day I feel the compulsion to cry out "What else do they want from me!?"

I talked to Debbie Melton about exit interviews after my rejection in January, and she instructed me to wait until late May and then call the admissions office to schedule the exit interview. They hold the exit interviews over the summer, I seem to recall in late June or July.

June would be pretty great. If they're even a day before the secondary comes out, I'll be elated.

Many things actually... both in employment and in the school application.

First of all .. I have a Master's degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I have been applying to research positions at OHSU for MANY months, close to a year. So now I am volunteering in a lab where two (white) girls are employed who say the knew NOTHING about DNA when they first started working. So ... yeh, that hit a nerve. That's of course is not the only incident, I see many UNDER-qualified people being hired left and right.

My interviewer came 20 minutes late ! He was very unapologetic.

My second interviewer, after phishing to know my religious background (which is Muslim btw), spent about 15 minutes discussing whether I would be embarrassed working with male patients. I said no, I worked with male patients a lot, some where *exposed. She insisted on asking whether I'm okay with them getting erections. I blushed, I'm a virgin, and even if they do get an erection, I'm professional, I'll do what I need to do and leave.

Umm... what else...

or right...

discrimination against appearance. Almost all of the students who got accepted the previous years were thin or normal weight, some could be mistaken for models. I am visibly chubby.

So yeh... Race, Religion, Appearance.

If I don't get in, so be it. I am 100% sure I'll make it into a better school next year. But I am not going down with out a fight. I saw matriculation pics from the past years, and I can tell you that there isn't as much diversity, and when they do choose a minority, they pick asian (which is also light skinned ... and thin).

So yeh... Master's Degree in Biochemistry, ample research experience, 2 years volunteering in clinics, hospitals and shadowing ... and now I am 61 on the list and can't land a research job at OHSU.

What pisses me off the most is how a girl I knew last year got accepted with a 3.45 (undergraduate) GPA from Portland State (not exactly a difficult school, my GPA was 3.74).

-Excuse my spelling mistakes... I am at wit's ends right now.

Oh... and did I mention that I know 4 languages (Arabic, English, French and Spanish).
Very well traveled ... actually lived in and shadowed doctors in a foreign country (Egypt).

So yeh... I'm pretty bad-ass... I don't see a good explanation for landing as #61.

Hello everyone! The above post was not written by me (#61), it was written by my ex. He used to have remote access to my computer during the past past year and after our break-up I started having people contacting me (both on Facebook and through this forum) regarding bizarre messages that were sent from my accounts. I think he may have learned my passwords while he had access to my computer.

Please disregard any further posts from "Portlandia" and I deeply regret all the negativity that he has caused. To all those accepted, Congratulations and to all those still in waiting, good luck.

P.S. OHSU is a great school.

Ah a very elaborate troll. Thank you for clarifying.

But wait... what if this is just a very creative counter-troll and you are not actually the REALLY REAL 61!?

I guess my best proof is that I can guarantee that "Portlandia" can't post again since I changed the passwords for that account and for the email associated with it.

But seriously, I'm trying my best here to mitigate the damage he caused to my reputation 🙁. PM me if you want to discuss details.

Wouldn't that be nice! I can't find my notes from that conversation but I know it was definitely too late for my primary app (since I'll be submitting as soon as Spring grades come out in late June) and I seem to recall it sounded borderline late for the secondary. Except, I'm also remembering that they didn't actually have a firmly scheduled time for these feedback interviews, at least they didn't when I chatted with them in January. That's why we are to wait until late May to even call and schedule since by then they hope to know what their admissions staff schedule will be like over the summer.

Hmm. It's the 17th of May. Is that "late May" enough? 🙄

The one thought that's keeping me sane is this: For those of us who were invited to interview last cycle... whatever is "wrong" with us couldn't be so terribly wrong "on paper" i.e. primary and secondary app materials. Also, there's still a little time to implement whatever feedback they suggest in time to bring an update letter if we get invited to interview again. :xf:

Are you planning on a bigger net this year? I will be crossing my fingers for you.

I was just browsing the online MSAR and added about 15 schools to my AMCAS not 10 minutes ago. Ka-ching! 😱

So yeah, applying more broadly, but with much reluctantance. In the last few months my living situation has become even more deeply rooted in Oregon, so I'm even less excited about moving very far away. However, this is the last cycle for which my current MCAT score is valid, and OHSU may continue to be squirrelly about what they want and whether I've proven that I have it, so unless I want to retake the MCAT and reapply a third, fourth, fifth, etc time until I'm 40, I need to widen the net.

It would be one thing if I'd submitted a less-polished or underprepared application last time, but I don't feel that I did. I can see how the way I framed certain topics may have made them doubt my commitment to medicine, and I'll certainly be reframing those conversations more accurately this time around. If they reject me a second time, there's not much reason for me to believe that a third application would be any more successful than the second attempt. I don't mean to sound horribly pessimistic about that, I'm just acknowledging that perhaps they just really don't think I'm a fit for them. 😎

This. Exactly this. Though I'm not sure what you mean by "browsing" the online MSAR--it seems like Sumerian scribes have to chisel a new clay html tablet each time I load a page.

I don't mean to sound as if there's no room for improvement in my app. I've been filling in some gaps the last few months and will add more activities over the summer. It's just frustrating to get whacked with the "Reapply if you really mean it" stick. 🙄

My online MSAR isn't bad. Ain't great either, but it sure beats flipping back and forth through my dog-eared paper copy!

Maybe it's Comcast's fault and I'm blaming the wrong faceless corporation.
And yeah, I should have been more specific--no one's app is ever perfect, and luck is fickle. But given three reasonable explanations for non-acceptance (1: fixable details in the application weren't strong enough, 2: Adcom doesn't see a good "fit", 3: just plain unlucky) I simply can't justify a multi-year experiment to nail down exactly which variable is most significant.

Oooh! Where else this year? I checked your MDApps page and it still shows your last cycle of apps...

Are you applying to WesternU/COMP-NW this year?

Have you thought at all about going AACOMAS? There is the Lebanon school now and AT Still has a regional campus in PDX that you can transfer to after the first year in PHX.

Are we collectively presuming there will be no movement until the deadline for the form has passed?

I called the admissions office earlier this week and they said they would not be accepting anyone from the alternate list until after the 27th.

Hi, everyone.

Congratulations to those of you accepted - and patience to those of you still on the wait list.

For those of you researching housing options, I invite you to explore the OHSU Student Cooperative as an option. We are ~21 students (primarily MD, but also a handful of RN/PhD/PT/etc) who live one block from the hospital in a former fraternity house. We enjoy the convenience of living close to campus (5 min walk to class/wards), the frugality of shared resources, and the residential community of fellow scholars. We are a diverse and quirky bunch - with 9 chickens in the backyard...

You can learn more about us at www.ohsucoop.com. We'll be reviewing applications for new members over the next couple months.

Go Blazers.

Thought i'd share some news from an email my pre-med advisor sent to Friday, since i'm not using specifics I doubt she'll mind. Apparently OHSU admissions told my advisor that it is looking like they will be going deeper into their waitlist than last year. YES! The email pretty much made my weekend since my number is a seems to be in the sweet spot. Of course there is no way of being certain and I'm not assuming anything, but nevertheless it was good to hear since the last wk has absolutely crawled by.

Anyway just thought i'd help turn the wheels of the rumor mill...🙂

The waiting game continues.

It's kinda cool how chickens live in a chicken coop, and you have chickens, and you live in a co-op, which is spelled like "coop" plus a hyphen, and which is a lot like a coop for people.

Ugh that's cruel to say something like that and not give us a better idea of what numbers we're talking here...

Can we play 20 questions? Ok higher or lower than 50? If it's around 50 post a picture of a buffalo, a giraffe if it's lower. Nobody can incriminate you that way.

Also what amazing pre-med advisor do you have at your school that they're willing to go to these lengths. I'm impressed.

Haha Gara I only know I what I wrote! By specifics I didn't mean anything about numbers, of course no one knows that, I just meant names of ppl or my school. All my advisor's emailed said was it looked that they were going deeper in the wl this year than last. Whether or not they actually do we can only wait and find out.

So really I was trying to just pass on some optimism, not cruelty at all. Hope that clears up any confusion so we can all go back to waiting...

I'm just giving you a hard time 😎

Though I feel like since you're at 18 you just have to worry about them not going lower on the list but I think you'll make it alright.

I'm 46 so I'm going to continue to be pessimistic.

Phew ok good i'm glad you were just kidding! I was worried I had accidentally started a flame war from a well intentioned post in this wonderful thread...

And yeah god this waiting period is getting to be a bit much, the one year anniversary for many people's amcas applications is even coming up and they still don't know!

It's just frustrating to get whacked with the "Reapply if you really mean it" stick.
Don't fret. I got whacked with the same stick and I got into OHSU on my second try. Sometimes it's just bad luck the first time around. Be persistent in the next cycle...send update letters, etc.

Just got an acceptance email! Was ranked 17 on the alt list... I didn't even know that the list started moving.

Can any current students comment on the class diversity and on the 1st and 2nd year grading system? Does it make studying more stressful and foster a competitive atmosphere?

Thanks and good luck to you all on the alt list!

Congrats Dot!!!!

I'm number 18 and just got my email around 3pm. I'm frikkin in!!! Soooo in shock right now, what happened to them waiting till after the 27th to let us know?

Good luck guys!

Me, too!! Congrats and see you in August!!

#27 accepted today for the MD/MPH program. I will be withdrawing however to go to my dream school 🙂 Good luck everyone! Sad to be leaving my home state. It sure it awesome here!

Congrats!

And Gara, fingers crossed for you--it's looking hopeful!

+1
My fingers are crossed for you, Gara!!

👍👍

Gara all I can say is you better be at least a little more optimistic about your chances now! Plus I'm officially letting you borrow some of my good luck during the rest of this week 🙂, it served me well today!

My fingers are crossed for you, Gara!!

Thanks guys. I'm not getting my hopes up yet but it's exciting for everyone that there's this much movement on the list. Here's to hoping they keep up the momentum :luck:

Hah if you'll lend me some of your luck I'll be more optimistic Takeyourstep.

So my portal says they've accepted up to 38 and we have 1 withdrawal on SDN (Good luck at your dream school AshleyC) and I know of 1 withdrawal IRL so that puts at at 40 so far right? Woo!

Aaaaaaannnnnnddddd lended.

But I'm really going to need it back once I have to tell my boss at work i'm leaving...ugh going to be M-E-S-S-Y.

Wow guys, that is amazing news about the waitlist! Congrats all! I am #44 so I am now very hopeful.. Does anyone know what happened???

Got in! I'm very excited to be a part of OHSU! Thank you to everyone who responded to my question about being #9 with optimism.

I was #33, got in, and will be withdrawing... so add that to another person getting off the waitlist! I think the 40s can be VERY optimistic at this rate!

Congrats everyone on the quick waitlist movement. I wonder what broke the downward trend?

Who knows, right? Probably no single factor, but deep down I suspect that tuition is playing a major role...

Do you not believe TheREAL61's explanation?😛
