Hey,

To bad, I didn't see your post until just now. How did you like El Paso? I was really surprised, I didn't expect to like it there but the mountains are pretty awesome. The school was amazing too, nicest medical school I've seen hands down. Everyone was super friendly, I'm much more excited about El Paso after having interviewed.

The curriculum is a big plus too, UTMB has a similar presentation of the materials and their step 1 scores are anomalously high compared to more traditional schools. Would be nice to have some scores to look at from El Paso but I would expect them to be similar to UTMB and thats pretty darn good.

Oh, and the mannequin giving birth was pretty funny too. Highlight of the tour for sure. The doc giving the SIM Lab tour was hilarious too. I was suprised to learn about the 20 full rides scholarships they are giving out also, would be pretty amazing to land one of those. Guess its waiting time now, c'mon Nov 15th...

But being anxious and restless due to the application cycle, I decided to check my email and there it was, interview offer from El paso😀😀😀

has anyone done student host for El paso and is it pretty easy to get a student host???

I had a host and she was AMAZING. my favorite host by far. SEND IN YOUR APP QUICK for a host. There were lots of interviewees there who didn't get a host bc el paso simply doesn't have tons of students. So I REALLY recommend it, but apply now!!!! GL 🙂

I was planning on staying in Best Western -- people have said that they have a shuttle from the airport to the hotel and to the school from the hotel. The school provides a shuttle from there to the airport at 3. No need for a rental car this way 🙂

I tried emailing for a student host ~2 weeks ago, and they told me none were available 🙁

Yeah you're in the same building all day. The orientation, tour, lunch, and interviews take place in that one building. And it is awesome. I really hope I get in here...

Just got ACCEPTED today. 😉 (I'm from out of state - Utah)

As to answer some of the previous posters' questions:

The interviews were kinda chill. Just know yourself and your application. Also, add to your application (tell them what you've been doing since you submitted). They have access to your app and just basically will ask you things from it. I had a local OBGYN interview me for my first interview. Great guy. Received some ethical questions, but just be honest and don't try to be someone that you aren't. My second interviewer was a lady that worked in the school as an academic adviser. She was really nice too. I felt that I did better in her interview than my first.

I stayed with a student and loved it. It was free and best of all, it was informative.

I was extremely impressed with the school, and most of all the curriculum. They said that some of the "just barely" MSII students could already pass STEP 1.

Haha, I still have a wrench and I interviewed there last Thursday. From what I've heard, you have to take whatever Merlin says with a grain of salt. It's mostly just used as a tool for interview scheduling if you're invited. As long as they sent you an email saying they received your application, you should be okay.

Merlin sucks... I still have a wrench and I interviewed in Sept! I wouldn't worry about it, just wait for the emails...

Yes...This feels like the three weeks before my MCAT score was released! It was easy to pass the time the first week. Though it wasn't so easy the last three weeks.

The few nights before my MCAT score release I was having nightmares about scores in the teens. No joke. Needless to say it made me even more nervous because my highest score in my dream was a 17S. And what's weird was that I had never seen the screen on the website that shows your score, but it was the exact same in my dream.

But yeah, I'm definitely getting nervous for pre-match. Although I somewhat doubt I'll get a pre-match, I'm still hopeful.

Did you start a new application for the foster school of medicine? it won't let you schedule the interview until you do that on merlin.

You dont delete the old one... You just do a new one for El Paso... There should be two on the page, one for Lubbock and one for El Paso.

Aww, thanks! 🙂 I hope everything turns out well for you, and even if you don't get in this year, being a reapplicant is actually kind of amazing! Sounds crazy, but it is!

I was sad that I did not get accepted last year, but I am happy to be a re-applicant. Being a re-applicant sets you apart from the rest.

Absolutely true. This was also my second time applying. 4 interviews last year, 0 acceptances. 🙁
Just tried to improve my app as much as I could with the time I had in between cycles and reapplied. 6 TX interviews so far this year, 1 offer so far 😀, and being a reapplicant makes you enjoy the offer soooooo much more.

My friend is a 1st year at Tech-Lubbock who was also a reapplicant last year and he said reapplicants appreciate med school soooo much more simply because they were once rejected and had to try again.
