So, I've been rather bored at work today so I went through the thread from last year and it doesn't look good for us reapps. About 2/3 of the reapps were flat out rejected. The rest were waitlisted, but did eventually get in off the waitlist. Also of note, it looks like you had a higher chance of being waitlisted again if you were waitlisted the previous year. I'm sure it depends a lot on how much you've improved your app so take that with a grain of salt.

hopefully since we were waitlisted last year this will work out. hopefully the small sample that SDN provides of reapplicants were just reapplicants with bad luck:xf:

I was a reapplicant with good luck FWIW. I was accepted off the waitlist sometime late May if I recall correctly.

I remember you from last year (congrats), and it is great to see that there is hope! Getting pumped for interview tomorrow!

Good luck! There definitely is hope. I was pretty bummed after getting waitlisted again last year, but I'm sure as you know, the waitlist moves alot.

ENJOY your time out of school though!!!

piper, TrojanR, Ditto - have a great interview tomorrow:luck:!

Is it safe to assume that if your status is still "Secondary Complete & Under Review" at this point that you're going to get a "No Longer Under Consideration"? I know that some reapplicants are getting interview invites and my status hasn't changed since September.

To those with upcoming interviews, best of luck! 👍

No...my status changed today from "Secondary Complete and Under Review" to "Remain Under Consideration for an Interview"

Hang in there

My status also changed from "Secondary Complete and Under Review" to "Remain Under Consideration for an Interview"... I checked last year's thread, and some people under our status got calls for interviews within a few days, some longer... very anxious to see what transpires!

Thanks guys. I just checked my status and it too changed to "Remain Under Consideration for an Interview". I was under this status last year and was one of the unlucky ones who didn't get an invite for an interview.

Best of luck to all of you

Ditto. OOS, I had been in the "Under Review" status since September so it's nice to know (kind of) a bit more where I stand. Sorry if it has happened to you - but has anyone received an outright "No longer under consideration" status? With so many of us changing to "Remain Under Consideration," it would be nice to know if we still have a realistic shot or if it's more likely a silent rejection.

:xf: It was great meeting everyone yesterday. I hope we all hear good news today! :luck:

Did yall already get the interview concluded status change and send in campus choices? (got this last night)
Dont know what to think about getting it that fast

looks like we're both trying for UoA and UAB. I'm still in the "remain under consideration" status for UAB and wonder if it's a silent rejection as well.... would be kind of funny to get 2 arizonans in alabama.

I got that e-mail last night also. Last year, I think I got it the night of my interview too.

I received an interview invite today as a re-app, I will be interviewing the 24th, and there were still two more interview slots open after this date to choose from. So interview invites are still going out and I would assume they will be for at least another week or two.

Very true, haha...wouldn't it be something if we both get an interview invite next week! I'm probably dreaming, but hey, anything could happen in the insane process that is applying to med school. 🙂 Good luck! :xf:

By the way guys, this thread is WEAK compared to the ones of the past. You guys need to step your game up 🙄

so if we didnt hear friday, does that mean its time to get comfortable for the waiting game?

Is UAB only giving out interview invites to reapplicants now? Or are they still giving invites to first time applicants too?

I am a first time applicant so they must be giving to both.

My status just changed to "Remain Under Consideration for Interview" had that last year without an interview... hope i get one this year. fingers crossed

Accepted three hours after my interview was over. I had to e-mail admissions to make sure it wasn't some mistake or computer glitch. They told us there were two more interview dates left after yesterday so don't lose hope. My stats and such are on my MDApps.

congrats! Out of curiosity, were u a reapplicant this cycle?

I am a reapp. I was WL'd at UAB last year and didn't get in.

Congrats man, I was waitlisted at UAB as well last year and interviewed again last week. If you don't mind, what do you improve during this past year? Just trying to figure out what made them like you a lot more this time around. Also, I see you've been accepted multiple places, is UAB your first choice? Thanks for the info.

Congratulations runfastnow! Would also love to hear where you strenthened your app - you clearly did a great job.

I PM'd Bama about it, but I will just post it out here for any others wondering and waiting for UAB.

From last app season I raised my MCAT from 25 to 29. I didn't do much more shadowing than I had for the last cycle, maybe 10-15 hours. I was lucky enough to get named 2nd author in two published papers since last cycle, but I have always had lots of research so I don't know how much publication made a difference; maybe it legitimized my research experiences. Perhaps I just had a really good interview day (I know one of mine went well, the other two were average/above average to me).

Those are the major things I can think of. I did send one update letter and one interest letter since Christmas so perhaps those played a role?

Good luck to the rest of you still waiting. If you get an interview believe in yourself and have confidence, but realize cockiness is an extreme turnoff to them and a humble approach to your future education is important. I think those ideas helped me during the interview.

As far as I know, it is....and I have no idea, but I hope I don't have cooties or something as I'm one of the lucky 13....😕

Only 13 people? That means I still have a chance! Any OOS accepted students mind sharing their stats?

I just got an e-mail saying concerns were brought up about my residency status. I guess living and working in Alabama for 3 years isn't enough to be considered a resident? What the hell? 😕

Thats crazy! Did you not get this email last year?

Nope, there were no concerns last year and USA doesn't have any this year either.

Edit: I just found out that a friend of mine has to do the same thing. She was born here, went to UA for undergrad, but she went to high school in GA. They must really be cracking down this year. I guess I shouldn't take it personally.

Does anyone know how long the interview season at UAB runs? Must be within the last couple of weeks by now, huh?

I'm pretty sure that next Thursday is the last interview day.

Yeah I've heard this samething, hopefully that means the waitlist and final decisions will come sooner this year than they did last year:xf:

So I'm still a little unclear about how the waitlist works. If I didn't get an interview invite yet, can I still be put on the waitlist?

I don't think so unfortunately. I believe it is made up of interviewees only. Sorry, hopefully you have other options.

Does anyone have any news? If I interviewed in September and still haven't heard anything, do you think I should be expecting a rejection or WL? Do they accept people that far after the interview?

Does anybody know the date that the waitlist came out last year? I've heard late March/early April is the admissions office goal.

Last year it came out on April 5. The couple years before that it came out the last week of March.

From past years, yes they can accept you this late. During my interview day they said that you either here the next day or in March. They will put us all on a list based on our scores and then start going through the list and accepting people.

:luck:

Anyone else interviewing tomorrow?

Does anyone know which apartments UAB med students live in? I know that technically, I can live wherever I want, but I would prefer to be in an apartment complex with a lot of med students/grad students. So I would appreciate someone listing places in Vestavia Hills, Hoover, and Homewood.

There's not really an apartment complex that I know of where it's basically all med students. Most people are pretty spread out and either live in houses or apartments in Homewood, Mountain Brook, Southside, and a few places downtown.

I think last year the waitlist was put out right at the beginning of April. I was on the middle third and I was accepted towards the end of May.

Good luck to whoever is interviewing tomorrow :luck:
