So I've got a question for any MS1's, what books will we need (at least for the Fun I and II)? I hate buying overpriced books in the campus bookstore, so I like to find out early and try to order them online. Thanks.

There is also an ongoing discussion of which books current students like/dislike/recommend on the C/O 2015 FB page.

See you in the fall(ish)!

Peaches. 😍

def buy bates, baby robbins is a pretty good source to have but the full version is available online from LHL. I would buy the grants dissector, they have them down in the anatomy lab but its nice to pre-read before you get there to know what is going on. These are the necessities for fun 1 and 2, if you like textbooks for some reason others can be supplemented but this will suffice.

This is a random question, not related to wait list.

I got rejected preinterview at last cycle and I'm reapplying to UASOM this year. Since the admissions don't even look at the reapplicant apps until Jan-Feb, is there any point of applying early (Jun-July-August)? No matter how great of a improvement in application, you are still in the reapplicant pool, right? So if I complete the application by September, is it too late? This is of course, assuming that I'm just focusing on getting into UAB.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

I didn't submit my application until the middle of September this year and I was interviewed and waitlisted. I would recommend sending a couple update letters to let them know what I had been up to and that you're interested in their program. Also, the last two years UAB didn't even release their secondary application until late August so I think you'll be just fine.

So if no one gets in this week at all I'm going to be pretty shocked (and freaked out), you guys?

at this point, do you guys still think it would be rude for one of us to call/email and ask when/if they expect movement?

If someone wants to be that brave soul, more power to them.

Not at all. It's after may 15th, so I think it's reasonable to ask about movement.

I saw on a few other threads applicants mention a letter of intent...what is that?

It's a letter expressing that you intend to attend UAB if you are accepted. Basically, you let them know that you are seriously interested in attending UAB. I'm not sure how much influence that would have at UAB, but it's worth a try. I would check and make sure UAB accepts letters of intent before you write one though.

If noone hears by the end of the week, I will call or email on Monday

You will also need some sort of anatomy atlas. They suggest Netter's but there are others that will do (and are perhaps better). There are other books that are helpful but not really necessary.

I wrote one last year, but I sent it before they released the waitlist. I don't think it would have much pull anymore since I'm pretty sure the waitlist is based on a numerical score.

45 days on the waitlist and still waiting
67 days until UASOM starts

Was SDN down for most of the day?? I felt like I had lost a close friend

This wait is torture. I'm sitting here just wishing for time to pass by, which has the unfortunate side-effect of me wishing away my last few weeks of college. I've even started sleeping in more, so I don't have to consciously endure this wait as much. I've had the admissions office number typed in my phone ready to press call for an hour now, but I'm not brave enough to annoy them.

Just call them. They aren't gonna send you to the end of the list for asking.

I'm IS...don't worry everybody I think (hope) we will hear something soon🙂

I have been sleeping to avoid the wait as well.

I just sent a email to the admissions office. I am married and have two children, I used my children as the reason I was requesting information. I will let you know if I hear anything

"I am in the upper 1/3 of the Alternate list and was wanting to know if there was any information that could be shared with me regarding the date that decisions will be made.

I am trying to make arrangements for my children's school in the fall and need to know as soon as possible if I will be able to stay in Birmingham or if I will be moving to Mobile."

Here is what I got back from Admissions via email

"Thank you for your email. The Admission Committee does not provide any updated information regarding accepts from our Alternate list. We appreciate your situation but we have no news to give to applicants."

The kids excuse was very transparent anyway and you did a pretty good job identifying who you are if you ask me. let's hope they're not reading this thread

whats it matter if they know who he is? any frustration expressed in this forum is understandable...

So uab is now out to get aeea?

It just sounded like he tried to "trick" them with a lame excuse and posted about it.

i personally dont think that having kids is a "lame" excuse, i know if i had kids i would want to know where i was living in two months and what schools they were going to

why would knowing who I am be an issue?
I emailed with my name to the admissions. I am not trying to hide who I am

prediction: we will hear something by next Thursday.

I have absolutely no "inside information," but hopefully there will be some movement tomorrow.

I was accepted last year on the Friday after May 15.

so it's not just because he can't wait anymore?

anyway, do you honestly think that having kids while on the wait-list is a legit excuse to bug med schools? I am personally in a more "sticky" situation and wouldn't even consider using it as an excuse to get more info about the WAITlist.

If I was in an adcom or corresponding with applicants I'd probably sigh-copy/paste the reply above. Nevermind the tone of his email which I thought wasn't entirely appropriate. I don't think "ASAP", "need" and "want" belonged in that communication. Anyway, good luck to all.

You've wasted more time on this topic than the secretary at UAB.

Seriously though, GTFO.

The doctor i worked for last year is friends with someone on the admissions committee and i asked him to call her and see if she would give us any info...this is all i got "people on the alternate list will hear shortly." so...there's that. haha.....oh the torture!
