Congrats you guys! 👍

I was also surprised to get an e-mail this morning, because I was expecting Monday. I'm in the "hold" category, so more anticipation to come. :xf:

"The University of Louisville Admissions Committee has not made a decision on your file."

Woke up this morning with some good news as well. So surprised, I thought we were gonna have to wait until Monday. Congrats to everyone.

Congratulations everyone who's been accepted so far. I also received, "The University of Louisville Admissions Committee has not made a decision on your file" email. Is it actually the case that we are "on hold" and will be compared to other applicants later down the line, or is that just to say that they literally didn't get to us yet in their first meeting or two? On my interview date I got the impression that there was a good chance they wouldn't get to everyone who had interviewed so far (and that this wouldn't cause a change to your application status). It also sounded like they could put you in a formal hold category where you would be held up to applicants at future adcom meetings (and the app status would reflect this). Any thoughts?

Accepted 🙂 Anyone else who interviewed on Sept 16th on here and get accepted?

I got the same "the committe has not made a decision" email. Does this mean "hold," or that they haven't reviewed my file yet? Did anyone else get an email that specifically says "hold"?
I interviewed Oct. 5th, if anyone else from then has found out then i'm guessing it's hold

I interviewed on Sept. 29. If no one has been accepted from that date, or later, I would suspect they just haven't made it that far in the meetings. It seems reasonable to think that they haven't sorted through over 100 interviewees already.

I interviewed on Oct 5th and also got the same email. I remember someone saying on the day of our interview that they would probably not get to us until the 4th tues of oct meeting. So maybe it doesn't mean we are officially on "hold." Did anyone else who interviewed on oct 5th get an acceptance?

this is very likely the case. last year i interviewed in early december and didn't receive my conditional acceptance until mid february. when i inquired as to why the decision took such a long time to be made, i was informed of the process. it turns out that the committee only meets once every two weeks, and they only have enough time review so many files. in order to make the process more efficient (as well as to make sure superior candidates aren't buried because of a late interview), a series of files are selected to be reviewed at each meeting. any file that isn't selected to be viewed isn't looked at during that session and is superficially compared to other files for potential review at the subsequent meeting. so, it's entirely possible that you could have an early interview and not have your file reviewed and voted on for months. this isn't common, but the committee member that i spoke with seemed to suggest that it does happen periodically.

i interviewed 9/29 and received an offer on Saturday... so i'm guessing they've made admission decisions up to that date at least...Excited about UofL! really liked the school/administration when i visited.

Congrats to all the accepted. I have a question do they reject throughout the cycle or send all rejections at the end of the cycle?

Accepted on Saturday. Whoop! I love the city of Louisville. Interviewed on September 29th. To answer your question, I'm pretty sure they reject throughout the cycle. Congratulations to all those accepted, and good luck to all those who are on hold/haven't heard yet. Hope everyone gets in!

I have been hearing really good things about U of L's clinical years. Its making me lean a little toward U of L over UK. Anyone with first hand knowledge of this? I probably don't want to go into primary care FWIW.

I'm October 5th too! I just assumed it ws the "hold" category because the e-mail did say, "Your file will be made available for discussion at each subsequent meeting until a final decision is made" but I hope you are right, that they just haven't gotten to our applications yet.

What have you heard about the first two years? Everything, other than the schedule times for UK and U of L the first two years, is making me lean towards U of L.

ULSOM and UKCOM use very different organizational methods for the preclinical years. UKCOM uses an organ system approach, in which information is organized by each organ of the body. For example, I've heard that at UKCOM you might have a block that deals with nothing but the heart. At ULSOM, we do problem based learning, which many of the professors will claim is similar to how the information is presented on boards. This involves learning material in a clinically oriented fashion, with a degree of problem solving. Overall, I've heard more people say that they prefer organ system organization to PBL. Personally, I don't buy any of it. I think that while the organization of the material is important, the majority of the material is going to be self-taught. Though, if I were going to shill for ULSOM (maybe not so much, as it's fairly obvious that I'm a student at ULSOM), I would say that ULSOM does an excellent job of organizing the progression of classes so that the bulk of step 1 tested material is learned for class just before the step 1 exam.

But really, you shouldn't select a medical school based on the preclinical years. The important parts of training are garnered during the clinical years. ULSOM's clinical years are quite strong due to the 5 major hospital systems in Louisville with only the one medical school available to utilize them for training purposes. Checkity-check this thread out for information on what you should look for in a medical skool: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=104541

That is the best thread I've ever read. So helpful. Thanks for posting!!!

Agreed. Not looking forward to Black Monday though.:scared:

What's Black Monday?

First year, about a month in I think, all your classes' first tests are on the same day. It's a Monday, and you have a whole day of tests, one right after the other. It is gonna suck. At the end, the second year students have a barbecue set up and waiting for all of us. Rite of passage I guess.

It's during second semester.

This was actually one of the many things I really liked about UofL. You will probably hear more about it on your interview day, but the reason they do it is to simulate what it will be like to take your boards down the road. You also get a week off from classes the week before the "big exam day" so you have all week to study. Each exam is an hour long and you have them all in a row. It starts during the spring of your first year, and I think this exam format continues for the rest of your time as a student. I feel like if undergrad classes did something like this, I would have felt a lot more prepared for the MCAT. It seems like it would really teach you how to manage your time, and weave all of your knowledge together. (Feel free to correct me, this is just what I remember from talking to people at my interview).

I'm sure it will help with boards and all, but I am still thinking it's gonna be brutal. I guess I'll get to experience it soon enough.

Who's climbin' in my window, snatchin' my interview dates up yo?

Yesterday, the 3rd, 11th, and 18th were available, so I chose the 3rd. Today, I find out the 3rd and 11th have been filled (in the hour I took to respond to the email?). Sonuva bee sting!

to those already accepted... Let me know if your status update on the app site changes to show your deposit received... I emailed Pam just in case my deposit didn't get there but no status update or word from her. Last years thread made it seem like they might not update the status but I wouldn't want to lose my acceptance for something this dumb

I emailed her yesterday to ask if I would get confirmation of payment, and she said we will get an email confirmation when they receive our deposit. I'm not sure about the status.

Hmm weird. Maybe she just told me wrong. Thanks!

Has anyone heard anything from Louisville today?? I think they should be sending out emails. I'm wondering if they got to the Oct. 20 interviews in their committee meeting yesterday.

I got an email today saying that the committee didn't make a decision on my file yet. Anybody know what this means? Is it good or bad? Cause they told us that they were going to make decisions and we'd hear back in two weeks. Is this going to lead up to a rejection?

We we trying to figure out if this is the "hold" status or if it just means you haven't made it to the committee yet. I got this e-mail again today (Oct. 5 interview) so I'm still not sure if it means that they are behind on looking at applications or if we are on hold. Anyone from Oct. 5 heard good news yet? 🙂

I got an acceptance email today!! Interviewed on Oct. 20.

Well, I interviewed on October 20th as well. I called an I was told that it wasnt a bad thing no decision and that it doesnt mean hold. But I dont really believe reading past cycles thread that its a good thing. Im moving on I have still another interview at Uk.

Got my blackboard password today. I was expecting it to not come until after the CBC and I haven't heard from certiphi yet, but cool none the less

How long did it take to get your blackboard password from the time you sent your deposit? .. and I haven't heard from certiphi yet either, do you think this is a problem since it has to be done in 14 days?

I dropped the deposit off at the school and got my blackboard notice the next day. I was a U of L student before, so it just added an organization to my ULink. I haven't heard from certiphi, but I don't think the background check has to be done in 14 days, only your written acceptance of the admissions offer.

Fortunately, Black Monday is a thing of the past. It's now Gray Weekend. You take 1 test on Friday, the other on Monday. The Barbecue is still held on Monday, and there's cervesa!

What's the protocol for doing to CBC? Will Certiphi contact us, or do we need to set up something with them?

I vaguley remember from my interview that background check info isn't sent out until January, but maybe I'm wrong here... and I also thought they would contact us

On the interview prep page it instructs you to print out the CBC form and bring it the day of your interview. That's what I did. But I think you can also turn it in at a later date. Not sure.

Yeah, I turned in the form on my interview day, but I hadn't heard anything from Certiphi or U of L regarding it. I remember AMCAS sent an email about it saying that Certiphi would start doing checks in January, but is there anything we have to do prior to that if we've already turned in the form?

I got the official letter in the mail today! I received an email last wednesday. I was quite surprised because I interviewed only 7 days earlier. I interviewed on October 20th. University of Louisville School of Medicine Class of 2015 here I come.
