My MCAT score was released exactly 2 weeks ago and they have yet to upload it (it's my sole action item). Think I should call and see whats up, or do they just take a while to look?

I think it wouldn't hurt if you clicked on that green bar that says "Notify admissions committee when app is complete" or something like that. I called today and it appears as if they go through all apps that have had that button pressed on a recurring basis. I wouldn't spam the button, but give it another press and see if they review it within a few days. If not, I'd call them. Good luck man! :xf:

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to pop in and say hello. I'm a current MSI at Umass and if you have any questions about the app. process/curriculum feel free to PM me. Unfortunately I don't log onto SDN that often anymore, but I will try to help out whenever I can.

Good luck in the application/interview process!

This thread seems really really quiet. Does that mean UMass is just a really slow school when it comes to doing things? Does anyone who interviewed last year know how often they interview and how many students at a time?

I'm getting kinda anxious not hearing from them. 🙁

I will admit Umass is notoriously slow in the admissions process. I think this stems from the fact that they will not over accept students because they are restricted to 125 spots (ie: early on they might accept 40 applicants, but as some of those applicants withdraw spots will open up and people will get a chance to interview/be accepted off the waitlist)

This is my TOP choice and think I'm a great fit but I have yet to hear from them, despite being complete 07/14 (i.e. legitimately greyed out and "complete"). I was resigned to the fact that I'm probably just a mediocre applicant... but recently, I have gotten several interviews from other places, one of which is a state school in which I'm an OOS (i.e. they place preference to their own residents so they must really like me to invite me), so now I can't help but be depressed over the fact that Umass really doesn't like me.

Anyone else apply early? Waiting to hear after the interviews? Wondering when people will start hearing back.

I honestly wouldn't worry. UMass is notoriously slow with pretty much everything and I believe they only offer a couple of interviews every week or two. It is still very early and I am sure you will get one soon, just be patient! 🙂

I have faith that I will hear from them EVENTUALLY... but considering how they interview more than half the applicants, this optimism is not all that profound. My game plan is to really wow them at the interview and make them accept me despite initially not liking me! ^_^

Nonetheless, your comment did make me feel better and pretty much made my day (speaks more to how boring and uneventful my day is, LOL). Thanks for the encouraging words.

i would agree with this, and caveat's comment too. umass is RIDICULOUSLY slow, but for good reason when it comes to tuition costs, etc. i know it's difficult, but really just be patient. i was complete in september, i didn't interview until february, and i wasn't accepted until june. i was not a stellar applicant by any means and so i really think the interview gave me an extra boost. the wait is completely worth it, my first year so far has been a great experience

Yeah, I am taking the year off and didn't feel the need to send them my whole resume to explain one work position so I just did what you did and emailed them a description (the one I used for other schools) and they seemed fine with it.

I missed that point about the resume as well, but I talked about how I improved my credentials since my last application. Did you guys get an e mail from Umass something along the lines of "Your secondary is complete and going for review?".

Some schools do that and some don't. Just wanted to see if anyone got an e mail like that.

I did not get a complete email, just an interview email. The status was updated to complete at some point though

I think that is a good game plan! The most important thing will not be when you get interviewed, but what you show them at the interview. I would imagine timing means very little if anything. I wish mine weren't tomorrow b/c I have had no others before this so I'm probably gonna suck haha

So yeah I found out that UMass pretty much auto-interviews anyone with MCAT of 32+... which I don't have... sigh... in for a long wait...

Wish that was true. 🙁

This is starting to get embarrassing. They're such a tease. 🙁. Let me cry myself to sleep again.

I think their next batch of interviews will be sent out tomorrow or Friday.

Should I send a letter of interest if I don't hear from them? It would really suck to spend money and interview at all these places and then have to turn them all down after I hear from Umass later in the year.

What should I do?

I would say there are a whole lot of assumptions in that sentence. I think the only reasonable thing you can do at this point is wait. Which sucks but it is what it is.

Haha. You're right. Also, I am not taking into account that when I interview at a certain school, they might impress me so much, I'll end up wanting to go there despite the higher cost. And a school might give enough fin aid that it would cost almost as little as Umass. I've been wanting to go to Umass for SOOO long, I'm dying to find out my chances getting in.

congrats! now i'll hope I'm in the next batch...maybe two weeks?

When is for--oct? nov? Just curious how far out the dates for interview are at this point.

My interview is on Oct 26th.

Unfortunately, I think they only send out invites once a month. 🙁 Though I'm sure you'll hear in the next batch.

See you at Drexel in less than a week!

HiEveryone

Im working on my essays now while waiting for my secondary and was wondering if we just pick one essay or have to do all 5😱. Please tell me we just pick one.

Accepted early decision yesterday! woohoo!

wow congrats! that must feel awesome. I'm hoping to hear back Oct 15:xf:. But after reading last years thread I realized the chances of hearing back then are pretty slim

You do all 5... but they're 200 word limits. It's really not bad.

interview Wednesday, October 6th!

I hope everyone's interviews went well! Now for the wait

Hi,
I am a re-applicant. They interviewed me the first time and I got rejected. This time I improved my application and I submitted my secondary about a month ago and nothing yet. Since I finished my secondary, I had a paper published, so I am wondering how to go about letting them know. I had no other changes except this one, so I can't imagine myself writing a letter just about a publication. Any ideas? Has anyone sent letters of update before, and if so what kind of format did you use?
Thanks!

Interview Invite just a few minutes ago!

Did you get an interview last time?

Is it true that UMass only sends out interview invites once a month?

Anybody know if we could hear something from UMASS tomorrow? Would it be an email / status update or a phone call? I want to check last years thread but its gone 🙁

You should still be able to search for the thread. But I read it recently and they heard on the 16th last year because it was a Friday and apparently they only give out acceptances on Fridays...and they got status updates followed by emails a few hours later. Anyway I don't know if we might hear tomorrow because people are saying that schools can't let us know till the 16th this year? Idk...but I want to get in soooooo bad

Is it safe to assume that acceptances are going to be released this coming Friday?

I got accepted yesterday 😀 It was via status change followed by E-mail. SOOO excited!

CONGRATS!!!

I can't wait to get an offer somewhere.. anywhere!. It's starting to get embarrassing whenever people ask "When are you starting med school?" or "Where will you be attending?" 😳

Thanks! I'm so relieved. I found out because I was checking my status (just in case) and it told me I owed $100.00. I was sure I already paid the application fee, but it turned out it was for the deposit!! 🙂

I'm sure you'll get in somewhere!!! Tell them med school is like the perfect mate- you're still waiting for the right one to sweep you off your feet!! :xf:

Btw, interviewed 9/15

So they already sent out a first batch of acceptances? Damn.... I thought they would wait till this friday, guess I'm in for a long wait 🙁

Hey guys,

I'm a 1st year medical student at UMass this year, just joined SDN actually when directed towards this thread by a classmate. Just wanted to let you all know that hearing about acceptances could take a while.

A key point that kept me sane in my application process:

The waitlist is not a death sentence, especially at UMass. I interviewed September 29th with 4 of my current classmates. By April we all received a waitlist notification, and by May 18th we all got in. If you do a poll of my classmates, a little over half of us got in off the waitlist, so no worries! UMass only accepts 125 students at a time, and some people are actually clinically insane and turn UMass down for far more expensive schools.

If you have any questions, ill be checking this thread whenever I'm bored in class. Oh and Dr. Dashwood, congratulations! Definitely go on MOE in August, I'll be there!

Oh and Bulldog4eva, believe me it isn't embarrassing yet, I got in 2 months before classes started. Anyone that knows the application process understands that most people don't get in in October. Or November, December or even January.

I've been told by many people to not get my hopes so high... but I keep thinking it would be quite a relief to secure an offer SOMEwhere.

A school I interviewed 3 weeks ago notified me that they have reached a final decision and that they have mailed it out to me. I should received it by Friday the latest.

Here's to hoping it's good news! :xf:
