Got my after 5pm phone call today! I can finally change my signature...and I can't wait to meet my future classmates! Whoooooooooooooo!!!!!!

Is there a FB group or something setup for all accepted applicants to talk and stuff?

there is a girl in the class of 2014 that will email you/facebook you to add you to the group. Melissa something, I don't remember. Congrats!

I think you mean Marissa Orenstein. The group is by invite only, but I am sure if you friend/message her she will let you join easily enough.

Edit: Congrats Goldenmug, welcome to the class. Sorry forgot the important part. 🙂

Thanks! I guess i'll just wait for the invite....but until then, super excited. Gonna be a good 4 years!

Just got my financial aid award letter! I'm so excited to start!:zip:

UMMSM MD class of 2015!!!

My M4 friend at UF med was on a waitlist at UMiami for regular MD 4 years ago even with extremely high stats and good ECs and yet she got into the school with partial scholarship by June. So don't sweat it just yet. Your day will come. Hang in there. 🙂

Thanks, Guju! I just need to remember to breath whenever I start thinking about waitlists, right? 😀

CITI Completion Report Will Expire Soon

this is some of the body of the email.

This is an automatically generated email reminder from the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative website.
You have coursework that will expire on 06/24/11. You have Refresher course requirements to be completed.

and this is the person who sent it

Paul Braunschweiger Ph.D.
Professor, University of Miami
Director Office of Research Education
CITI Course Coordinator

what does this all mean? i've checked my status page a couple of times over the last few months and its gone... this is what my status page says...

There are currently no additional terms for which you may apply to University of Miami School of Medicine Supplemental.You may still fill out the form, but you will not be able to submit the form until a term becomes available.

has this happened to anyone else?

FAFSA submitted and verified 3/15
acceptance letter and financial aid letter BOTH post-marked 3/16.

perhaps coincidence?

ps: hey bigballer. long time.... 🙂

Thanks! I completed my info the first few days of March, got my letter about 2 1/2 weeks later.. Hope this helps. Best of luck!

UM 2015!!!!! :hardy:

I don't plan on submitting a fafsa. I can finance my education myself. Should I tell the school this information? I don't want the school to think I am being irresponsible and have it affect my application..... I have already interviewed

A quick question guys, do you guys type or personally write the letter to reserve your spot in the class? If type, do you still have to sign your name or can you just simply type your name? Thanks.

FAFSA issue shouldn't make a difference. 🙂 But, give 'em a call if you're apprehensive about the situation.

I typed the letter, and signed my name in good old fashioned ink above my typed name.

cheers!

I don't know how to relate what the MSAR says about application/interview rates with what you said.

Instate applicants:1508
Instate interviews: 312
Instate matriculates: 137

Out-of-state applicants: 3087
Out-of-state interviews: 171
Out-of-state matriculates: 57

If UM didn't favor instate applicants then why do they offer a little less than double the interviews to OOS compared to IS yet there are more than double the numbers of OSS applicants?😕
UM's website does say they are currently pushing for a better qualified pool of matriculates, meaning they will offer more seats to OOS students, so maybe this is becoming a moot point.

Does anyone know when UMiami will be sending out their rejections? I haven't received an interview invitation yet so I assume that means I'm not getting one this late in the game.

i think they send them all out in april. i haven't gotten an invite either and i'm OOS, UM undergrad. :/

Just received the acceptance letter!!! stoked!!!!!

Haha I know, it has been too long

Are you going to be a 'Cane for sure?

Hey guys, just wanted to know how long after your interview you got a response.

thanks 🙂

Interviewed March 4th, response March 23rd. Pretty quick turnaround

Have they sent any info out about it? I haven't received anything

It's on April 15th. I didn't get the email 'til a few weeks after my acceptance. You might call them if you're interested in going without having to scramble last minute... 😳

Hi, guys. Alternate list here. Interviewed 2/7. Does anyone know what percentage of the matriculating class are those coming from the waitlist? Kinda nervous...accepted at FSU (very thankful) but UM has always been a dream. And I'm in a predicament because FSU starts May 31. The waitlist really starts moving two weeks before then on the 15th. I've sent numerous updates, additional letters of rec, and will write a personal, heartfelt letter emphasizing why UM is for me.

Praying hard and hoping for the best. And any response for my question is very much appreciated.

Thanks!

So, it looks like I won't be able to make it to 2nd look due to class/work.

I've been looking online for suggestions/warnings on where to live/not to live...so I thought I'd post up on this thread to see if anyone has any additional insights...

Is there a housing thread out there? is there a place to go to find a roommate - it looks like it won't be cheap, so I'm considering the roommate, are others in the same boat?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
👍
For all those out there still waiting...keep the hope alive, and remember that getting through the application process was half the battle =)...and with all those battle scars, you still made it out. I hope to see most of you in the fall!
I'm super excited!
Hi everyone,
I am new to this thread. I unexpectedly received an interview for the MD/MPH program today! 🙂🙂🙂 I am OOS.
I honestly don't know very much about this school.
If I was chosen for the MD/MPH program, does that mean I am only eligible to go if I get accepted to both the MD and MPH program?
Does anyone have any news as to what percentage of students get accepted after the interview? Do they still accept people this late into the cycle, or are these last interview days more for waitlists/alternate lists?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!
DKLA, I just got an interview also for the 11th. Im wondering if its too late to actually get admitted to the class. what does everyone else think?
This is all from info I got on my interview day for MD program:
The MD/MPH program is a joint/concurrent program, so if you get into the "MD/MPH" program, you are part of both the MD and the MPH program. Its a combined 4 year program. So at the end of 4 years, you'll have an MD degree and an MPH degree. So, your answer is No, you just have to get accepted to the MD/MPH joint program. The Miami MD class has i think like 40-50 spots reserved for MD/MPH applicants each year.
From my interview day (early March), we were told there were spots left in the MD/MPH program and the dean actually encouraged all of us MD folk to apply to the concurrent MPH program as well because it basically doubles your chances of getting into Miami. Also, they are still accepting. They said they save like 10 spots each committee meeting to accept applicants into the class (for both MD and MD/MPH). Stats we got from interview day for 2014 class: Interviewed 450, Accepted 278, Enrolled 152 (both MD and MD/MPH)
To DKLA and mcatbeast, if you get an interview...... YOU HAVE A FANTASTIC CHANCE AT GETTING IN. They will tell you that their acceptance rate for people post interview is 80%. I believe them. I am OOS, and got in on the first meeting I was presented. Interviewed on February 18th, accepted March 9th.
Because of this, I would assume that you will be in competition with the people in your interview group. Sad, but true. It is very late in the year, so because they are still accepting people, they are going to take the best of who they meet next. This is a very selective school, so based on statistics you make the cut. Your commitment to medicine, personality, life experiences, and character will now be in question. Please be yourself.
Am I only eligible for only the MD/MPH track then?
Yea, on my interview day they explained it by saying those called for the MD interview can apply to the MD/mph, but not other way around. I'm betting they are hurting for applicants in the MD/mph track.....
Hi all... I have a question. I have heard that Miami gives out a great deal of merit-based and diversity/need based scholarships to their incoming class- like Mayo, they are known to have these funds available. However, I haven't really heard what the range is on these, specifically the merit based ones. Can anyone on here (current students or incoming) comment on the range of these merit-based awards? Thanks! 🙂
So....I've been complete since August and haven't heard a peep from Miami. Anyone else in this spot?
Since sept., every time I call they tell me the same thing and sound slightly irritated that I called.
Yeah I'm in the same boat. When I called at the end of February, the lady on the phone said something about the ADCOM passing down decisions in about 2 weeks. But like you mentioned they seemed a little annoyed with my phonecall and did not seem clear as to my situation (the fact that I'm preinterview). At this point I'm unfortunately waiting for my rejection letter/email.
Sorry to be the barer of bad news, there's always a chance they are still doing interviews though.
Hi all:
I interviewed MD only on 2/7 and currently am on the alternate list. I was the last of the day to interview so I did not hear Dr. Weisman closing remarks. From above posts, I saw that he encouraged the MD only applicants to apply MD/MPH to double our chances. I rushed and filled out the three essays last Thursday and called the office to confirm that they had received it (which they did and uploaded the document).
My question is...if I already interviewed MD only...do I have to also now interview MD/MPH? Agnes told me when she sent me the link to the application that a ballot (I'm assuming a committee vote) would be cast soon...just not sure if that means to accept me/waitlist me for MD/MPH OR decision to interview or not.
Any help to this question is greatly appreciated.
Thanks, guys!
For all MD/MPH & MD applicants we all only receive one interview. That interview is used to present you to both committees, so the hard part should be done! For my group it was split about half and half between whether we interviewed in Miami or Boca.
I'm sitting on the alternate list for both. Good luck to you! :xf:
Also applied OOS in September, and have yet to hear any word. Emailed in the beginning of March and all they said was the application was still being looked at
Thanks so much! So, if I submitted the MD/MPH Application last week all I have to do is sit back and wait until the committee votes on it, right?
You said you talked to them after submitting your application, right? I would say yes. Sit back and chill. 🙂 The timeframe will probably be similar to your MD interview response.
Yeah. The office confirmed receipt of it. Cool then. Wait it out...again. Haha.
Oh! And good luck to you, too! Fingers crossed!
