Around what time is the interview day finished on Tuesday (Interview day # 2) for MD/MPH applicants? The admissions office hasn't yet sent me this information which I need to schedule my flights.

doesn't run too late...or at least mine didnt. It all depends on the tours they give you. I think I was out of there by ~1-2

Just call and ask real quick. They are really helpful/nice on the phone.

Anyone have any advice about the waitlist at UM and how to improve my standing?

Just received an interview invite!!!! OOS

Apparently though I'm flying out to just get on a waitlist...sweeeeeeeet...

wow congrats! when were you complete? i'm oos, complete since mid november and still not a word.

Hurricane hopeful here. I interviewed at Miami on 2/4, and have been impatiently waiting ever since. Having somewhat monitored the activity of this thread, it seems like there has been a recent lull in posting about final decisions. I'm wondering which interview date is the most recent for which decisions have been rendered. I was told I would have to wait around 4 weeks, but I thought I would gauge the actual turnaround.

Also, we were told on our interview day that the MD class was not yet full, but was close to being so. I'm wondering how many recent decisions have been acceptances as opposed to waitlists.

Any insight on this?

Thanks! I was complete middle of October so maybe they are backlogged and are just going through files in order?

Interviewed a few days after you (2/7)! Also anxiously waiting! I think the committee meets this upcoming Wednesday. Hoping they review our cases during it.

And I, too, am wondering about the recent decisions (accept vs. WL)...at least the class is not full yet!

2/4 interviewer here, too. Wishing you a much WARMER med school career than you had for undergrad.

Interviewed MD/PhD on 1/28; accepted MD-only 2/9. Super excited! It is my first acceptance of any kind! OMG, I am going to be a doctor! WHOOO--HOOO!

I am still waiting to hear about the combined program, and I have yet to hear back from all the other schools I have interviewed at.

Very nice!! Congratulations! Did you mean 2/19? or were they REALLY that quick with the turnaround? 1/28->2/9??

It makes no sense for him to hear back on a Saturday and a lot of sense for him to hear on a Wednesday. He meant 2/9. They can get back to you really fast if your interviewer fills out his paperwork before the next adcom meeting.

I did hear back on 2/9; I was also surprised with the fast turn around. Wish the MD/PhD program would get back to me as quickly, but they told me I should expect to know more in April after those who received acceptances earlier decline.

Haha, thanks much. Good luck to you.

Congratulations!

From other comments in this thread, I'm assuming that the committee meets about every other Wednesday, possibly meaning that those accepted from recent interviews may be receiving calls in a few days, which is awesome. I also got the impression that there is a fair amount of waitlist movement here, which is also very encouraging. Good luck to all.

Thanks for the response, MEDUSA. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you on your MD/PhD status!

Sunny, I've come across a couple schools that conduct business on weekends... hence, the reason for my question.

Yeah. I am pretty sure they meet every over Wednesday. So if they last met on 2/9, they should have another session this upcoming Wednesday, 2/3. Nervously waiting, but hopeful! Good luck to all, as well!

I am sorry, I did not mean for it to come out sounding with a bad tone of voice, it is just that most people on the UMMSM thread know/ have read that the adcom meets on Wednesdays. That was all I really meant by the comment, I figured you just hadn't thought to look at the dates you were referring to.

Looks like we'll be getting our pre-interview decisions soon. I'm also oos, complete mid november, and haven't heard back yet.

Oh, that I knew, I just didn't know that all calls would go out the day decisions were made.

Congratulations on your UM acceptance!

I haven't heard anything about Financial Aid packages..and I'm worried because last year I heard a lot went out around the end of January. I saw someone on this thread already received some aid..is anyone else waiting? I'm hoping for something since the cost of living in Miami is so high!

Any recent interview invites? I was complete late, 10/15, still hopn for an interview.....

How an interviews at UMiami for the MD program? Are they pretty standard questions or do they do a lot of ethical and/or role playing questions?

How an interviews at UMiami for the MD program? Are they pretty standard questions or do they do a lot of ethical and/or role playing questions?

My interviewer (PhD in Heme/Onc) asked a LOT of questions (probably spent about 30 minutes talking about this) about health care reform and the implications of cost control and efficiency measures on the future of the field of medicine and the patient experience. Our views were greatly aligned on the political aspects of these issues, but I did not get the impression at all that he would have been unreceptive to an alternate point of view had I expressed one.

He asked about 5-10 "ethical" questions that mostly asked how I would deal with some sort of patient non-compliance or related issue.

He also asked a lot about my family and where I came from, and patiently answered all of my questions at the end.

It lasted about an hour, and was not at all stressful.

Thanks for the feedback! Wow, thats a lot of ethical related questions. From what I read on SDN feedback and from your experience, it looks a lot like these interviews are more situational interviews and "what would you do...." interview questions...GULP...

I did have multiple situational questions, but I was honest and my interviewer loved all of my answers. If you answer them in a way that is not honest they will probably notice and if you answer in a way that shows you should not be going into the medical field then they will notice. Essentially it comes down to whether you should be in the medical field when it comes down to ethical questions. (My opinion/outlook).🙂

You're lucky you live in FL! For those of us who don't....

But yeah, I'm hoping for some financial packages asap

Just got a reply from them, telling me that I'd hear from them (pre-interview) in the "next few days." I was done in early november. OOS.

Hi everyone! I have a question that hopefully someone can answer.. I received a criminal background check request from AAMC this morning.. Does this in any way mean that I've been accepted? I called today and was told that the committee is meeting this afternoon thus I should find out by this evening or tomorrow.. but the anticipation is killing me.. Has everyone accepted after Jan 1st. received this email from AAMC? Has anyone on here that has been waitlisted also received this email? THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP and BEST OF LUCK TO ALL!!!

CBCs are issued once aamc has been notified that the applicant is either waitlisted or accepted at a school, yes?

UM tells their accepted students the same day they are reviewed, so I don't think it's too likely that the CBC email some of you have received is relevant to your status at UMMSM..

feel free to take the counter position.. I'd love to know if anyone knows more than I.
I don't know too much about acceptances yet... 😛

Just got the best call ever, accepted to MD and MD/MPH!

I am just basing this on the MSAR, but it says that UM does not do background checks before matriculation. Are you on a waitlist/acceptance for any other school? I could be wrong/MSAR could be wrong.

Also, congrats 3rice which do you think you will choose?

Correction...Wednesday 2/23!

well predicted. I got the call. Accepted for the MD/MPH program, waitlisted for the MD. Anyone have any thoughts on this and do you know if they tell you how far up or down you are on the waitlist? They said it was ranked but did not mention if they tell you the likelihood of getting in.

Does anyone have any experience or know about this? I'm very psyched to have gotten in for the dual degree, however I'm a bit nervous about a few aspects of the program.

Congrats!!!! Interviewed with you, but still waiting for a call! How long ago today did you receive the news? On pins and needles here!
