Also applied OOS in September, and have yet to hear any word. Emailed in the beginning of March and all they said was the application was still being looked at

hey guys, didn't want to post this to burst everyone's bubbles, but i emailed to check my status and on march 30th, i got this reply:

"We are in the process of wrapping up with our interview process.
You can expect to hear back from us anytime within the next following weeks.

Our last interview date will be April 11th.

Thank you for your continued interest."

sooo.. today was it. if we weren't interviewed by today we are getting rejection letters soon. sorry. 🙁

After much consideration I just withdrew my spot from UM. So hopefully someone else should be receiving a good call soon, and possibly attend the second look this week.

So if I haven't heard anything back by now, should I take it as a rejection. I mean, they can't possibly be interviewing this late can they?

Did you read little star's post? April 11 was last day for interview, so put it like this: if you were playing a basketball game, and you were down 15 with one second to go, you haven't officially lost, but.........

Seriously though, good luck and keep your head up. I had 143 rejections before my first acceptance!!!

Job well done, bige11. You deserve it. Way to stay in the game. 😉

Im sure the 143 was an over exaggeration as there are not that many med schools in the country 😉 😉.

lol

Yeah so guess I should write rejection next to that one. Surprised by all these silent rejections where schools have not taken time to send anything out. Oh well.

Unfortunately it's quite literal! It's over 3 years..... Lots of improvement in my application.... Thanks for all the kind words, now if I could just get that acceptance to Miami.......

Does anyone who is attending 2nd look on fri know what the dress code is?

From what I know from other schools there isn't a dress code, but I would recommend slacks and polo (or similar dress)

Dress code is business casual, but if you are a girl, you are allowed to not wear heals and can wear flats. Basically, nothing formal, just look nice/presentable is what we were told.

Hi all... I have a question. I have heard that Miami gives out a great deal of merit-based and diversity/need based scholarships to their incoming class- like Mayo, they are known to have these funds available. However, I haven't really heard what the range is on these, specifically the merit based ones. Can anyone on here (current students or incoming) comment on the range of these merit-based awards? Thanks! 🙂

Don't quote me on this but I think the merit based caps at about $15-20k. They also have subsidized need-based school loans.

yeah 4 years ago and 6 years ago when people i knew got into miami, they got 15k.

Yea, I got 15k too, and when I asked them for more they wouldn't give to me  I mentioned 20k as a possibility because during my interview there Dr. Weisman mentioned that I could possibly receive a 15-20k scholarship, I think. I could just be misremembering things tho lol, it's been a while and i've had a lot of info crammed into me this past year.

THANKS! ya I just wanted to get an idea of the range, that helps a lot just to see what people have received in the past.

I have a quick question guys. I am wondering do you guys receive financial aid package while you are getting your acceptance letter? Or does it come later. Or should I just call the office and ask.
Also would you guys mind sharing your stat if you got merit scholarship? Thanks a bunch.

For those of you that got acceptance calls, who called and during what time of the day?

When I got the call, It was literally at 5pm on the Wednesday they are suppose to call you. I think last round of offers are going out tomorrow. My caller ID said "ADMISS OFFICE". Also, I had a random medical student call me. I'd expect a call anytime after and close to 5pm.

I too got my call late in the afternoon (between 5-6pm) on Wednesday.. It was a PhD who called me, so expect a call late in the afternoon with good news. Good luck!

I actually got my call around 6:00 central time, a bit later than everyone else. I might have just been one of the last people they called that day.

Thanks goldenmug, Ari, and Ladyloe for the feedback. I'll be very nervous all day tomorrow and I'm applying for the md/mph and I know there are fewer seats for that. I really hope I get a call

From what I gather, the MD class is full, but there are a few spots open for the MD/MPH.. Nevertheless, that is good news for you as you are applying to the joint program. Good luck!

From what we were told in our interview, they saved 20 spots for tomorrow because they have found from experience that they meet many great candidates at the end of the process and in previous years haven't been able to offer them a spot.

IS tomorrow the day we're supposed to hear back or Thursday? I thought it was Thursday?

Where did u get the number 20 from? And is that for both or just md/mph

I interviewed there (within the last month) and Dr Weisman specifically said that they were holding 20 spots for the April 20 meeting. I interviewed for MD only, and it was clear that it only related to the MD program. No idea what to expect from the MD / MPH program which I applied to after interviewing for the MD program.

I still haven't heard anything from Miami post secondary... which I assume means a rejection...but?

Edit: Called and supposedly anyone who has not interviewed will be receiving a decision email, which have already started going out.

Yo - I think you interviewed with me, are we supposed to find out today or tomorrow?

I hope this means that they look also at the waitlist!

Again, from what was said on interview day, the purpose of holding spots was to give candidates who haven't been reviewed a chance at admittance. I think they want to fill the last 20 spots with the best 20 left, so theoretically it may be possible to get off the waitlist. That is pure speculation though.

Anyone get a call yet?

I'm waiting by the phone literally this sucks, anyone get anything or know someone who did?

BTW, that was for the regular MD program. I interviewed toward the end of March.

No, but it is definitely in the mix. Plus, I live in Minnesota, so being able to daydream about the sun is awesome.

feeling kinda bummed just got an email for the alternate list, prolly going to be rejection... oh well 🙁

Does everyone make alternate list post interview?

Hi I also got alternate listed, but for the MD/MPH program.

Does anyone have any insight as to whether the list is ranked? In the past years has there been much movement down this list? Is there a separate list between in-state/out of state?

I was so impressed with Miami Miller when I interviewed! Quite bummed I didn't quite make the cut 🙁

actually... i got two emails from Miami. One said I was alternate listed for the MD/MPH program, and the second said I was on the alternate list for the medical campus.

Does that mean I'm alternate listed for both the MD/MPH and the MD programs?

I believe the admissions department views both applications as separate with about 150 seats for the MD program and about 50 seats for the MD/MPH program.

My thoughts exactly,

So this might mean alternate for both programs.. When I attended second look, there were several candidates that still had not reached a final decision, though I suppose that is what "second look" is all about. But maybe that guarantees some movement in the list! I'm sure I don't have to tell you this, UMMSM is a GREAT school with AMAZING clinical exposure! Good luck to all still waiting, to those that know for sure, see you in the fall!
