OOA Waitlisted this morning, it could be worse ;-)

I was told by a med student out there that EVERYONE is wait-listed at UVM, the only question is how long you will be on the list. Some people were there a week, some got in the first week of classes.

My sincere wish for all of you is that it is more like the former than the latter. Best of luck all, hopefully we will be classmates in August.

If you look back in the thread some people were even notified Sunday night! I dont know quite how that works...but it seems to be true. Anyhow...good luck to all again...glad to see lots of activity on this thread Im really hoping to be here in August and it looks like next week is the big week weve been waiting for (Ive been waiting since Jan🙁)

:xf:

So, based on recent patterns, Vermont is only sending out acceptance emails on Mondays? That's what it seems like, but I could be wrong.

Hopefully there's more to come soon!

They send their acceptance emails out sporadically. I was OOS waitlisted back in October then accepted on a random Friday morning in December.

Hey! i am taking my mcat may 20, and i realize that the time of matriculation for me is not in imminent future, but this is my number one choice of medical schools that i wish to attend. I love vt and the school, for i have been there numerous times. my question is, what is the average mcat score that they are intervieiwng people with? lowest, mid range, and highest that you guys have heard of. thanks!

You probably want to get a hold of an MSAR. It contains most of this information for every school.

https://www.aamc.org/students/applying/requirements/msar/

From the 2011-2012 MSAR UVM's range and median MCAT scores for accepted applicants are 26-36 and 31, respectively. Not sure about for interviews.

The MSAR gives a better overall view, but I got a 28R and I got an interview. I would, however, advise against applying with anything under a 30. It's a been a long, stressful, frustrating year so far. I wouldn't wish this year on anyone.

am I going to see any of you at second look tomorrow? I'm excited. 😀

Not me, unfortunately. But I'd be really appreciative if anyone felt like posting their opinions/feelings about it.

Don't worry to much about precise scores. If you are like me the added pressure would only make things worse. I got a 29Q as my top score and I was accepted. They are looking at the overall picture of who you are and what you can contribute. I think that the scores are used primarily to make sure that you meet the basic requirements. That being said, I would also advise not wasting money on a Kaplan course. I took Kaplan 2x and did not improve my score. I studied for 2 months on my own using the Gold Standard DVDs and book, and the Kaplan high yield problem solving guide (which is in my opinion Kaplan's best tool) and I raised my score significantly. My method was to watch a video, then read the accompanying material, watch the video again, then do related problems. Also, take practice tests early and often, but don't be freaked out about scores. Use it as a learning method and to get comfortable with the testing process and layout of the exam. Good luck, and relax.

Does anyone know if ANY April interviewees have been accepted yet? I think the latest I've seen here is a March 29th interviewee...

Interviewed 4/26. On OOS wait-list. UVM is perfect! My #1 school.

sooooooooo..while we're all waiting. i have a question: does anyone know if we are supposed to hear IMMEDIATELY after may 15? may 15 is a sunday, so does that mean, we're supposed to hear by monday morning or does it take a couple of days to hear back from them?

For waitlist movement? I'm on a waitlist at a different institution that had their deadline as May 1st, also a Sunday. The deadline decision then became the day after, so I'd imagine the same for UVM. It took a week after that deadline to see movement, which seems to be a reasonable time to process the decisions and see who they would want. I'd bet that most of the movement won't happen until the 23? Who knows though. Good luck!

I talked to someone in Admissions, and she said offers will be going out a couple weeks after May 15th. "A couple weeks" is pretty vague, but she said they need time to process and such.

So they aren't giving any acceptances out before then? What about late (April) interviewees? I don't think any of us have been accepted yet...

Just got my acceptance today 🙂, interviewed in march(late) and wasn't expecting to hear anything till after May 15th. UVM is one of my top choices and i am super excited about this. I will be withdrawing from the (DO) school i was accepted to. Looking forward to getting my financial aid package, hopefully it's a good package because if it is then i'll most likely be matriculating here.

What's a good package? I got all loans myself and I'm going to be a single, independent student whose parents make <$40k.

Isn't your fafsa based on what you currently make as well, though? Since you presumably also have income, that gets factored in for this year, right? Whereas next year, you WILL HAVE BEEN making nothing for a year.

I suppose that this is true, but it's stupid. Making money now means nothing since I won't be working as a student but I'll still need to pay bills. I'm just mad at the system. Grrrr. No, I'm not really mad at anyone, it's what I expected. I just wanted to temper the previous poster's expectations.

I'm right with you, cat. I don't know if *any* schools have "good" financial aid packages, except maybe for private ones with huge endowments.

On the bright side: consider how generous your future self is being.

It's May 15th. Now the fun begins...

Unfortunately we'll still be waiting for at least a week or so...

I wonder what the situation will be like this year. I'm hoping for a lot of movement. Come onnnnnn!! :xf:

Accepted!!!! I can't believe it, got the email last night...so happy to have UVM be my first MD acceptance😀

They sent you an acceptance on a Saturday night? What time? Wow, there really is no rhyme or reason to this 🙄

Also accepted via email this afternoon! Will probably be withdrawing tomorrow, but did love UVM!

Best of luck to those still waiting!

Congrats!

it was one of the more random things that's happened to me during this whole cycle but the best part was that I didn't even find out til about 2:30 in the morning after my best friends bachelor party. Let's just say I was a little excited when I read my email on my phone. Luckily it was 2:30 in the morning in an empty parking lot or someone prbably would called the cops on me😀

A good package will include some scholarships which would help reduce the costs since i am out of state.I got my package towards the end of the week and it wasn't all loans, so i am a bit excited but even with the scholarship the tuition is slightly higher than my state school. Anyways congrats to all those recently accepted.

Did any one else nearly have a heart attack from a waitlist update email?

what email? It's weird cause I never get their emails. I have to log in the online applicant center.

Yeah I got that email too, but I was kind of expecting it based on last year's thread. So cruel, Vermont, so very cruel.

Could someone paste up the email or something? Now I'm very curious.

Nevermind, I got it. Delayed forwarding from my college account. 😛

Haha yes I nearly drove right off the road

omg...please be careful!

that reminds me of when i called in to vermont to ask about my application and she gave me an interview on the spot...nearly drove right off the road myself.
