Anyone else submit the first day and still show "preliminary review"?

maybe not right this minute, but you are certainly not out of it. UVM interviewed until the first week of April last year (which i guess would be this year😳).

doesn't your message also say something about waiting up to 10 weeks for the next update?

yes, it says 6-8 weeks. I'm not a stellar applicant numbers wise so I guess I shouldn't expect early interview invites.

I submitted a week and a half ago and mine still says 6-8 weeks. I'm not the best applicant but I have an interview invite elsewhere so I think maybe they are just taking their time to review. Or maybe I'm not what they want. Who knows.

I'm in the same boat. I guess we are so awesome that they can't stop looking at our apps. Or, more likely, they haven't gotten to ours yet for some bizarre reason.

when were you complete? did it come via email or did you just check?

I submitted my secondary on 6/30. I had to go on the website to check. They must review them in batches cause I know that people received the same message days before I did. You'll be alright!

Thanks! I got "pooled" today, first positive news 🙂

Hey I have a question for those of you that have already submitted. I don't really have a premedical committee at my undergrad college so I have to send three letters of recommendation. I have one from the premedical advisor at my college (who was also one of my professors) and one from another science professor. It says on the UVM website they want the third letter from a non-science professor and that's what I don't have. I have two other letters from the hospital I volunteer at and from my boss of 5+ years. Did anyone else have this problem? I took all my non-science courses my first two years of college before I was pre-med. I wouldn't even feel comfertable having any of those professors writing me a letter because I feel they don't know me very well and I haven't had contact with them for almost 3 years (I graduated undergrad in '09). Advice?? I really want to go here an don't want to screw up my chances because of one letter.

I would contact Vermont and see what they say. Many schools want 2 science and 1 non-science professor recommendations... so depending on what vermont says, you might want to consider getting that non-science recommendation somehow. But if they will accept the other LORs, you are good 🙂

I submitted about 2 weeks ago and still not pooled. I guess they don't like me. I am OOS, but I think there has been some OOS here that has gotten pooled.

Without essays, they don't really allow a chance to highlight your strengths. Bummer.

Actually. I clearly remember that I submitted on 07/09 now, because I submitted U Illinois on 07/08 and THAT was my very first submission. So I guess I just fell into a later batch. I'll give it another 2 weeks before freaking.

I submitted 6/30 but my nonscience letter didn't get there till a week later...so I'm not sure what my real "complete" date is.

I got pooled too (OOS applicant)! Yay. I submitted early July and my last reference was in about 10 days ago.

i got a weird UVM information email even though i already applied there. how strange.

Would you mind sharing exactly in July? I'm OOS as well so I'm curious to whether they hate me already. It could be that speeding ticket. LOL. In any case, not a huge deal... just curious.

Couldn't find the exact date. I got the supplementary app on June 29, but was still waiting for a reference. Sent out my secondary probably around July 5th or 6th. My last reference was not in until about 8 or 9th.

It's still early though, it's pretty likely they haven't looked at yours yet!

Small-pooled today. Submitted secondary on 6/30. Don't know about you all but I'm not celebrating yet. "May receive an interview" is pretty neutral news to my ears.

If you submitted 06/30 and didn't get pooled until today, it could be another week or two for me. I submitted 07/09 or 07/10. I wish their app gives you a chance to write more about yourself. I already set off a bad impression with a speeding ticket. LMAO.

It may not mean much, but we have to make it past this point in order to get to anything better. So it's still worth celebrating... just not too much. lol

Here, here! They had two options... reject or small pool. I am just happy they actually looked at my app and felt good enough to pool me!

I sent my AMCAS app to this school yesterday and recieved the secondary invite a few hours ago. However, after I create an account and log in to the website, I get this:

"We have received word from AMCAS that you have selected to apply to the University of Vermont College of Medicine and are pleased that UVM is among your medical school choices.

We will be emailing you instructions on how to access our online supplemental application over the next few weeks. "

So does this mean I can't fill out the secondary until I get another email?

Sounds like they're saying you can't fill out the 2ndary until your AMCAS is verified (4-6 wks if you submitted yesterday).

Nah it was verified in June...I already have completed apps at others schools but I added Vermont yesterday.

i actually get the same message, just got the secondary today though. I am verified. hoping it'll change by tomorrow

I hate to rain on the parade but from reading last year's thread it sounds like the "small-pool" message doesn't really mean much. Lots of people seemed to get that message and never get interviewed, and UVM doesn't seem to reject people right away so it's not really small-pool OR rejection. You can get both or you can get neither. Just putting that out there, but if someone has inside info please correct me if I'm wrong.

I applied last year and you're correct. I sat with the small pooled message for like 6 months until they were no longer interviewing.

I think you're right, in that the pool message still means you can be interviewed or NOT chosen to interview, but that is clearly stated within the pool message. I think the issue is whether students withOUT the pool message get interviewed or not...

The belief on SDN is that the pooled message is the "first step" and is "required" in order to get an interview invite.

Yeah that's absolutely right just because you're pooled doesn't mean you'll get an invite to interview, but according to an earlier post on this thread about 4500 applicants complete the secondary and about 3000 get pooled, which seems to mean 1500 get rejected. Better to be in the 3000 than the 1500... Of course according to MSAR they only interview about 650, but what's the harm in hoping?

Congratulations! My status has yet to change.

Mine hasn't changed yet either.

I accept that they probably don't think I'm a good fit and resolve not to check it again for another 2 weeks or so.

Understood... but not EVERYONE is small-pooled. I didn't say that I was going to get an interview - I completely understand that I may not even get the opportunity. But some individuals are rejected outright, and I am happy that many of us here were not in that boat. It is just a step in the process. Sorry if anyone misunderstood - but hey, I'm still going to enjoy my small-pool.

Exactly. We all read the status update that told us we were small pooled and that we were not promised an interview. We are just glad to have gotten past this small step considering that not getting pooled would be you were outright rejected. If we don't celebrate the small steps, we will go crazy waiting for the big ones! Let us enjoy ourselves and be proud of our small pool. 😀

With my message, I did intend to rain on anyone's parade and say don't celebrate. I was responding to the poster above my post where he was elaborating on how it's not that important. I think that it is important, given that you NEED it in order to be CONSIDERED for an interview. That's all I meant by my original post, that you need that message to be considered, which would mean that is is fairly important with respect to the "process" of admission at this university.

GREAT QUESTION! Submitted 07/09 and STILL not pooled. I see my chance dwindling with each passing day. 🙁

Could the pooling thing be by a weekly or 2 week period and then by name?
So if your name is John Zorn, and you submitted 1 week before Mary Abel, you could be pooled after her b/c they looked at batch # 2 that includes weeks 1 and 2.

I don't know about that name theory haha but I hope its something like that. I submitted June 30 and no news 🙁 I am losing hope

Don't worry about it, it's still really early (and other such cliches). You're definitely going to drive yourself crazy if you check your status every day.
