I have been small pooled since early July, it's been about two months, should I assume they bypassed my application or is there still hope for an interview invitation?

There is definitely still hope as long as you are still in the pool. I was in it almost all year last year and finally got an interview invite in February. It's still early too, so don't worry.

I was complete in early august, and my status has yet to change from "we have received all your application materials. It may take 6-8 weeks to process" or something like that. Does that mean I am totally out? It has been 8 weeks or so 🙁.

Interview tomorrow!! eek! FYI....Lake Champlain is GORGEOUS!!! And everything in Burlington is walkable....coming from LA where nothing is walkable....this is nice!!!

IlaEm, let us know how your interview day went. I noticed you also applied to OHSU🙂 You must have a strong app to have received an interview as an OOS here at UVM. Hope you rocked the interviews. I love Vermont and would love to be considered seriously here.

I am a med student who likes to visit the admissions office now and then (they really are a good bunch), so I know some information you small-poolers might be interested in. I'm pretty darn sure this information is correct, but do take it with a grain of salt.

There is basically a single person in the admissions office that ends up picking the majority of interviewees from the small pool. She browses applicants and extends invitations to the ones that catch her interest, but unfortunately there is some element of luck in getting your application looked at. Now, other members of the admissions office can look at your application, and if they like what they see they will ask her to take a look at it. I do know who this important person is (it may be the director, it may not), but I don't want to give the name.

If you are in the small pool and getting impatient, you should give the admissions office a call to express interest and enthusiasm. They will tell you they don't extend interviews on request, but that's only half-true: they have admitted to me that "engaging individuals" on the phone will have their applications looked at, and if they like what they see they will refer that application to the important person I've mentioned. This basically helps eliminate the element of luck, nothing more.

A question I often get is "what do I say on the phone?" – Well, that's really up to you, but my advice is to just be yourself and tell them how excited you are at being considered for such a wonderful opportunity. Tell them why Vermont interests you and that you look forward to hopefully moving along in the application process.

Hope this helps some of you, best of luck!

I'm interviewing on the 30th. I have a room at the Sheaton booked with double beds. If anyone wants to split, let me know.

Also happy to give a ride to anyone form the Philly, Washington, NJ, NY region....we can split the gas.

Interview day was good 🙂 Everyone is soooooo friendly, the campus is lovely, the simulation lab is BOMB...they have dummies that can bleed, pee, give birth, change genders....AWESOME! You find out who you are interviewing with in the morning so most people with smart phones looked up their person. I didn't have one but another applicant kindly looked up my person for me 🙂 It's nice to have an idea of what type of doctor you will be interviewing with.

Not sure if my app is strong. I have a pretty low stats compared to others, but I think my extracurriculars make up for it...I hope :xf:

I think I rocked the interview!!! My interviewer said "i hope you choose to come here" at the end. I'm taking that as a good sign!

Best of luck to everyone else! UVM & Burlington are both fabulous!

Wow, congrats on a great interview IlaEm! I've heard so many good things about UVM. Hope I will have a chance to experience this in person.

Thanks, byurazorhog!!!!🙂 I hope you do too! If you have any more questions feel free to PM me. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about it.

this is going to sound stupid.. but how are you supposed to double check your interview date? I wrote down the day and everything but I'm getting a little paranoid and I can't seem to check on the website..

Also, has anyone experienced the Student Hosting Program? would really appreciate it if you could share your experience. Thanks

don't you still have the invitation email?

They'll send you an email telling you what date your interview is. I found out I had an interview via the status page, but I never got an actual email until a week or two after I saw my status.

Does U of VT accept letters of interest and/or update?? I am very interested in this school but I didn't know if they accepted anything.

Yes, they do. I think you can do it on the online applicant center, but you can also just email it to them.

It makes me a very sad panda that no one wants to carpool or split a hotel room with me. Ah my pocketbook!

On AMCAS when it says the deadline to apply is Oct 15th (filter deadline), does this mean you need to add this school to your app by this deadline, or also have submitted the secondary by this deadline? I am confused 🙁
Is this different from the program deadline of Nov 1st?

Have them schedule an interview with me then we'll talk.

Ya sad panda, many of us would love to have the kind of problem you have. I hope you find someone at the last minute though and best of luck with that interview boggvir.

Have any of you recent interviewees heard from university of vermont? Anyone been accepted or put on a waiting list or have any news/advice to share?

My status was updated and now says something like "the committee has reviewed your application and will be in contact with you shortly." I assume that means the decision has been made but I can't know till Oct 15 🙁

"Your file has been reviewed by the Admissions Committee. We will be contacting you shortly regarding the status of your application."

same for me. I didn't even think to check it until oct 15 but just did seeing this.

I so want to get in here but now it's just a waiting game. "your file has been reviewed" sounds so ominous to me but I'm sure it's just my state of mind.

Are these post-interview decisions?

I am assuming they are post-interview, yes. This is a different message than others who had just submitted apps got, which mentioned a possible 6-8 week waiting period I believe.

When did you interview? I already interviewed but my status still says the following:

"We hope that you enjoyed your interview at the University of Vermont College of Medicine and that you were able to learn more about our school, curriculum and life in Burlington.

Your file will now be reviewed by the Admissions Committee and you will be notified in the coming weeks regarding the final decision of the committee."

Just wanted to say that I'm finally small-pooled here after 11 weeks, haha =p

Anyone want to call and see if they'll tell us before 10/15 if we call and ask!?

Any OOS get an interview invite here? If so, do you mind sharing your stats? I am really interested in this school and would love the chance to interview here, but I just had my committee letter sent this week.

Thanks!🙂

Interview in November, 30 / 3.5cgpa / 3.7sgpa, OOS (but from New England) and I applied as early as possible.

When did you interview?

I completed my secondary and paid the fee about a week ago, but my status still says "You may now complete our supplemental application. Please select the "Supplemental Application" link to your left in the green navigation bar to access the supplemental application. Once you have entered all required information you will then be prompted to submit your $95.00 fee via credit card."
I clicked on the Supplemental Application tab and can still access my application, with all of my answers already filled in. Am I doing something wrong here?

Hopefully they don't make us wait too long after 10/15.

Any recent interviewees wanna share some of the questions they were asked?

anyone who has interviewed already should consider posting in the "interview feedback" portion of sdn (see the top toolbar)...there, you can write about/see others' interview experiences from questions asked to where others' stayed during interview time!

Hello everyone, I am scheduled to interview on 10/7. Can anyone who has interviewed or is familiar with the area recommend an affordable hotel by the university? Any recommendations on mode of transportation? If anyone is interviewing the same day and would like commute together I would be more than happy to. Just PM me. Thanks in advance.

The Hilton was very nice, had a UVM discount, and paid for all of my transportation to and from UVM and the airport.

Give them a call!

The interviews all seemed to be pretty much conversational. Out of the people on my interview day, it appears I may have had the toughest interview. Although I did not consider it difficult. It was quite conversational and enjoyable. My interviewer knew my file very well and really thought about which questions he wanted to ask me. Be yourself and you will do fine 🙂

I stayed at the Best Western/Windjammer. Such nice people working there. They had a shuttle to and from the school as well as the airport. Also free breakfast in the morning!!

Oh thank goodness that gives me hope! It's been 8 weeks since I've been complete and my status has not changed. I'm thinking about giving them a call since it says the preliminary review takes about 6-8 weeks. Maybe I'll give it until mid-October and see what happens.

Hi. Is anyone else NOT hearing back from the Hosting Committee?

Hi. Is anyone else NOT hearing back from the Hosting Committee?

I haven't heard a thing yet, just that I've been pooled. Since mid-August.

I sent an update letter today in the mail giving them some new info, maybe they'll remember me and give me an interview, I would love to travel up north!

Good luck to you and everyone else!

Does anyone know when the committee meets again to go over applications? I know its every 6-8 weeks, but am not sure when the next one happens...
