So, there is no email update saying our application is complete, right? I submitted my secondary (with LORs) and got no "completion" email but on the status page it says:

"We have received all application materials that you have submitted. Your file is under preliminary review. The review of your file may take several (6-8) weeks"

So am I really complete?

Yes.

Don't worry about it, it's still really early (and other such cliches). You're definitely going to drive yourself crazy if you check your status every day.

I gave up checking. If they want to invite me for an interview, I'll just find out through e-mail. What's the point of unnecessarily stressing myself out?

Yeah I quit too because I still wasn't pooled last time I looked. Decided it's just not worth checking.

Yeah you are right. I'm done checking the status page...I'll just find out about interview/rejection by email

I have no willpower so I caved and checked my status 😳 But on the plus side I am pooled!

After seeing your post, I thought I'd check ONE more time... and unfortunately I'm STILL NOT pooled. I'm pretty convinced I'm as good as rejected.

Good luck to the rest of you.

I caved and check today too (though I think I check every two days or so... not that being pooled is that awesome. I don't even think it's a small pool either).

Anyways, I have been pooled! yay! Submitted 7/7 for those of you still waiting for your status to change.

Question about LORs:

If you're sending in letter packet, do you need to specify the sci and non-sci writers in those spaces below? Or are they intended only if you're sending in individual letters?

I would say that yes you do according to: https://www.med.uvm.edu/ApplicantCenter/Supplemental_Guidelines.htm

On the same topic, do any of you recommend sending in the three additional letters?

Hrmm this is a bit confusing. I remember looking at the FAQs on the Vermont page (http://www.uvm.edu/medicine/admissions/?Page=FAQ.html&SM=applysubmenu.html) and it said do not send in more than 4 letters total. I only sent 4 in (no committe letter) so I'm not sure whats best. I would be hesitant to send in too many.

Even though they stated that they only want 4 letters, if you send more, you wont be penalized. I sent six last cycle and I did fine.

Don't give up. I was pooled just yesterday but I talked to someone in admissions on monday because of some confusion about my letters. She said they are having trouble updating the page because of some wonky IT issues so I wouldn't worry just yet.

Yay! I got the "pooled" status today! I know it's not a guarantee for an interview or anything, but it's still nice to see the update. By the way, I submitted the secondary on 7/2 and just got the status update today. It definitely took a while for me to get it, so don't worry if you don't have it yet!

Thanks for the encouragement. Do you happen to know whether they update the pool list daily or weekly?

Aww don't be discouraged! Considering I submitted my app a day after I got it and was only pooled yesterday, they might not necessarily be going through them in order. Hang in there...they're still pooling people so there is still hope!

+1.

Online application center has this new caveat along with the pooling statement - "Interviews are held on most Tuesdays and Thursdays between mid-September and mid-April. You will be notified via email if you have been selected to interview." Everyone else have this?

Yeah. Maybe they're getting closer to sending invites?

pooled today. submitted 7/7.

Do they send an e-mail or do you have to check? Submitted two days after you... so if by Tues of next week, I still don't get pooled... I'll know I'm screwed.

The only time UVM will email applicants are interview invitation and acceptance. They do not email for being completed or waitlisted. Not sure about rejection..

Just found out I was pooled... Complete 7/7 3.6 cgpa 3.5 sgpa 27M

YES!!!! Finally pooled!!

I feel a bit LESS discouraged that there isn't something horribly wrong about my app. 🙂

Congratulations! Hopefully you also get some interview invites to toher schools...then you'll "really know" that something isn't horribly wrong with your app. That was my thought during this process---"what if ....(something is wrong with my LOR, primary, etc...) haha.
:luck::luck:

Nope. None of those yet. The only encouraging thing I have so far is a 2ndary invite from U Wash, which is notorious for being really strict about initial screening.

ah yeah been doing that. for a sec I thought there was some other way.

Lol I would feel so much better about the whole pooling thing if one just one person posted that they were not pooled on this forum. I, by the way, am still waiting, but mine was only complete on 7/19 so I'm not holding my breath.

Pooled is just Vermont's man-made aquatic recreation term for "complete".

Most people probably wouldn't feel like coming to the Vermont thread just to post that they got rejected. I know if I got rejected that I wouldn't bother to check this thread anymore.

Then why did our status pages previously say "application complete" if they were just going to re-write that message in another form later? I'm sure it means something or they wouldn't waste their time updating us.

That is not true. Most threads do have people posting that they were rejected -- and then returning to the thread if they are asked a question regarding a rejection. You can clearly see this on the Boston thread -- with one rejectee posting a week or two after his rejection with an email Boston sent regarding why he was rejected.

It is very helpful for others in looking at the application timeline if you inform the thread that you were rejected (and you stats).

Personally, the lack of rejections here make me feel like it isn't a very small pool -- and that almost everyone gets into this pool. I might be wrong though.

edit. POOL = ON HOLD. IMO.

... I didn't say that no one ever posted that they were rejected. I said "most people" probably wouldn't feel like coming in and airing that, which I think is a fair claim.

I could be wrong, but I disagree with you there. Faithful SDNer will post if they are rejected on that form. maybe not "most" people -- like the people who lurk on here but never post ever. But regularly posters will -- and you will even occasionally see people with less than 10 posts saying they were rejected. Just take a look at the amount of people who have already said they have been rejected from boston and mayo, for example. It might be a small group of individuals compared to the total number applying to a medical school, but a lack of anyone on here saying they were rejected goes to show that being pooled isn't all that special.

It seems to me that SDN'ers tend not to be shy about telling everyone else they are rejected, even sharing their stats in the process (after all, it's anonymous...)

However, I also noticed that people will usually make one post that they got rejected and stop posting in that thread. Exceptions are the big names school, where people are curious to to "see how others are doing" so they keep checking back in and post occasionally.

Just my observations.

regardless of the ongoing debate ... i am still happy to have been pooled today 🙂

haha... yeah I'm happy about my pool too, even if it may not mean anything. At this point I am just holding on to anything I can get! :xf:
