thrilled to have an interview invite here! Anyone else having serious difficulties with this photo upload situation? Any help much appreciated! +pissed+
Worst case scenario, just scan a picture and e-mail it to them. That's what we were instructed to do interview day. My upload worked 😱 though.

It might have to be certain types of files and size too. Check on that.

So I have an interview here next week (on Nov. 3rd) and I'm super excited!

From what I've read on the interview feedback page, it seems like there is a wide range of interview styles from really casual conversation, to bombarding with ethical questions. For those that have interviewed already, do you have any advice? This is my first interview of the season, so I want to do it right. :xf:

It's true that the interviews are a grab bag, so prepare for the worst, but hope for the best. I personally had a very conversational, nice experience even though I was apprehensive after reading interview feedback.

The day is relaxed. When I visited, most people had only one interview, but some had two. This setup is still relatively low-key compared to some other institutions (3 interviewers back-to-back, MMIs, etc). There was a ton of time to sit around and get to know fellow interviewees.

If you have time, go to the welcoming session they hold Wednesday night. You'll get to meet and mingle with a ton current students, which is always really nice, and they'll give you the lowdown on Albany.

Unlike other schools, they don't give out a current match list, not even upon request, which is something to note. They also aren't interested any sort of updates beyond the Tuesday after your interview day. That's when they evaluate you for the first and final time. So if you have any last LORs or updates, you might want to bring them to the interview or make sure you get them in ASAP afterwards.

Best of luck! :luck::luck::luck:

I had a great time interviewing here, and talking with the other students at my session it sounded like everyone else had a similar experience. My interview was very casual with a really nice faculty member who had thoroughly read my application beforehand and asked me questions just to get to know more about my application, I didn't feel pressured at all. That was the first half of the interview, the second half was even more conversational, we talked about everything from politics to places to eat good ethnic food around the Albany area.

One of the admissions staff running the interview day even mentioned not to be nervous from all of the interview feedback posted on SDN, so it sounded like they might be trying to change their interview image. I was really nervous from reading all of the feedback but my experience was nothing like that at all!

Hmm, that's weird. I'll pop by Admissions when I have time and ask about this. Otherwise, here's our 2011 matchlist (names redacted). Thanks to "nogolfinsnow" for this (btw dude, if you're reading this, your SN reminds me of Martino. We just had first snow, and he was complaining how he has to use green balls this weekend for his game.)

Thank you so much! this is incredibly helpful. 👍

Second Q: I hate to ask but do you know if any MS-4's had to scramble? thanks again!

No clue, why are you asking? (i don't mean that in a confrontational way, i'm just trying to gauge what kind of relationship you're trying to bridge).

Sorry, I wasn't trying to bridge any sort of relationship or insinuate anything at all. I just wanted to know if it ever happens. I was really impressed with Albany when I visited. I had a great time because all the students seemed genuinely happy, friendly and helpful.

My only hesitation about the school was when one of the students in my interview group pointed out there weren't match lists included in our folders and requested one but was denied. Usually schools have given me match % stats, so I was just curious 😳

Oh, no worries. Just wanted to tailor my response.

Usually I associate % of students matched with Carribbean schools trying to bolster their credentials - I haven't seen many US schools blatantly advertise the percentage of their students that matched, since most US MD students match successfully. If a lot of students in a given class wanted to do Plastics, there would be a higher chance of more students scrambling just because plastics is such a hard specialty to match successfully into.

Match lists by themselves are not a great indicator of a school's performance. Interviewees tend to focus on the big names and not remember that a lot of other factors went into a MS4's students rank order list (location, couples match, volume of cases, the specialty they end up liking, etc.). Match lists have their use, but they will not determine where you *could* end up going; most factors are under your own control, such as board scores and clinical year performance.

I'll check with Admissions and ask. Reason why they might not release match lists is because students' names are still on those lists, which AMC may not want to publicize. That's just my conjecture, however.

Interviewed yesterday and got grilled with ethical questions, grilled! Beware if your interviewer is a phd, though he said I did well. Thankfully I like reading up on this kind of stuff and had at least some background to respond coherently. What's weird is everyone else interviewing that day had very relaxed interviews with MD's. Oh well, as long as you do well I guess right?

Also, the director of admissions said the first round of acceptances will go out early november.

all great points. thanks again! you've been all over it for us albany c/o 2016 potentials 🙂

Great, now I have to change my username. Thankfully I no longer live where it snows.

There were a couple scrambers. I believe their desired specialties were derm x 2, ortho, and maybe 1 emed. Overall, the vast majority were very happy with their placement.

Got an "on hold" email today. I guess for Albany, this means the end of it? 🙁

Got the hold email in Sept but just realized the hold doesn't show on the status page. Is it the same for other people on hold? Has anybody ever gotten off the hold to get II?

Does anyone have any more details as to when acceptances start going out? I interviewed with the very first interview group and they said they would start in November. I'm just seeing if there is a more specific time frame.

withdrew my scheduled interview recently. Hopefully one of you sdners gets the spot. 👍

I interviewed in the last October group. I believe the committee is meeting to discuss our group today (tues. following interviews). The director told us they like to get the first acceptances out oct. 15ish, but they're running behind this year and to expect the first round early nov.

I also interviewed end of oct. I was told by the director of admissions directly that the first time we will hear from them is over thanksgiving break.

placed on hold today. complete early-mid september (not sure of the exact date)

From what I read in the posts, they do NOT change status page for "hold"

Looks like this wk is over... Here's to acceptances being released next wk (hopefully) :xf:

Hey guys, I am curious as to what kind of reputation Albany has in general since it is not ranked by US News. Overall where would you guys place Albany? Thank you!

Has anyone who has been complete for over 2 months but has not heard anything yet tried giving them a call to check your application status? If so, what did they say? I have been complete since July and haven't heard anything. I'm debating calling them.

i'm in the same boat
i think they're just holding onto our apps to re-review them. if you're not on hold or rejected yet, i guess that's not a bad sign

I'm hoping that we were put in the "we want to interview this person, just not until later in the cycle." One would think that if we were put on hold or rejected they would have emailed us that by now...

Good luck!

Just got an interview invitation today but I'm going to turn it down because of other acceptances. Hope an SDNer gets it 🙂

Talked to admissions today. They said they will give decisions early next wk
