This may be a stupid question but do we think that all accepted students found out yesterday? Is there a chance that we could receive an acceptance today?

no, i don't think all students found out yesterday. I think quite a few people will find out today, whether it's by phone or email.

are they in the towers? also, if anyone has any idea the rent people spend for a couples' apartment that would be really helpful!

miayo - it's a big priority mail envelope with a folder inside; I think the unfortunate news will be coming as a letter in a regular-sized envelope

They are in the towers yes. Dependingvwhat you want, it is somewhere between 1300-1900. It's all available on the housing wesite

Got a call from my interviewer at 6AM today (west coast), the early wake was totally worth it, though I can't imagine how I sounded on the phone.

He also told me that acceptance letters had already been mailed, so check your mail.

So stoked right now and good luck to those who are still waiting!!!

Figure I may as well join in on the initials, anyone hear from a JB?

Wish I could have gotten that phone call!

Also, out of curiosity. . . did anyone get a call from Dean Nicholas himself?

this thread is so cray i had a dream that everyone else got a call and i didn't so i was assuming rejection...

Is the commute to the financial district a pain from Washington Heights? My husband is in trading and can move to Manhattan, but now the trouble is whether to live halfway so that each of us commutes some, or one of us makes a huge haul. Also I'm assuming that the rental prices in the Towers is VERY favorable compared to prices in the rest of the island. Also...has anyone lived in the Bronx and commuted to Columbia from there?

The A train goes all the way down to the Financial District, stopping at Chambers Street (closer to World Trade Center) and Fulton Street (Closer to Wall Street). Haven't done the trip myself, but I'm guessing it's about an easy 40-45 minute train ride, maybe faster?

There are some pretty solid, not too expensive living options in the financial district, so I wouldn't rule out living there if that is something you would prefer. Maybe try and research the different neighborhoods along the A train and see if you find anything you like. I do think you are right in assuming you will get a better deal through Columbia housing.

EDIT: Don't really have any experience commuting from the Bronx.

It would be pretty rough during clinical year, but possible if necessary. Bronx commute is possible on the one train. I know a few people who live in queens and the Bronx, but it isn't ideal for the clinical year either.

Couples housing is on the low side of normal prices that you might find in the city.

Did anyone find out via email? Also, did anyone living in the Boston area get the letter yesterday?

Thanks.

anyone get a call from C.B.?
ahh def picked the wrong weekend to be at home (i.e. away from my preferred mailing address...)

Pretty sweet. Just got a blank email from the admissions office.

Glad to know they haven't completely forgotten about me

Mailman came and went (I'm in NYC). Nothing...guessing it's a rejection!

Good luck to everyone..!

+1

didn't interview, so I obviously know what it should say...

Edit: oh and there's the rejection on take two.

This is the worst school with IT - blank emails, losing data, ect. they are terrible.

Same, but in Jersey. I'm starting to hate snail mail, so much messier

Thanks mega and mmc. Hubby suggested living in Chelsea...but then I quickly shot that down.

To others waiting to hear: I haven't received any snail mail, yet, so chins up.

Hey EyeLuvRcadeFyre,

I live in Chelsea. Also married...if I get in to Columbia (at this point, it looks highly unlikely...), we should talk! Regardless of whether I get in or not, I'm happy to answer any questions you may have about commuting (familiar with the financial district as well)... I've lived in NY forever and also went to undergrad at Columbia so I'm quite familiar with the west side.

I would pay anything to live in Hell's Kitchen... except for the exorbitant rent! But there are a bunch of lotteries that you can enter for students and those with "moderate income."

Also, have you thought about splitting your time? You can live farther downtown during preclinicals, and then closer to Columbia for your rotations. Moving is always a hassle, but if you limit your belongings, it's doable. I have moved as many times as years I have lived here.

rejected pre-interview. i loled at the email... funny wording. but it's been a good cycle, columbia!

thanks for the info paoeny and percy. truth be told the only reason i don't want to live in chelsea is that i don't want us to be labeled as another gay couple in chelsea. i'm not going to post anymore until all the decisions go out so as not to stress others out who are still waiting to hear.

good luck to all of you guys. you're all amazing amazing people no matter what some school/interviewer/piece of paper tells you.

HAHAHAHAHA wait i just had a WTF moment. must read again.

Here is the full email for those that have not had the pleasure of being rejected ;-)

Dear Applicant:

The Committee on Admissions and I regret to inform you that we will not be able to act favorably on your application for admission to our next entering class.

This letter most emphatically does not mean that the Committee regards you as unsuited to the practice of medicine or even that it feels you could not meet the demands of our curriculum. It is the result primarily of having thousands of well qualified applicants and only 165 places in our next entering class.

I hope that you have gained admission to another medical school. The Committee joins me in wishing you well in your future medical career.

They sound overly apologetic! I love the kicker at the end.. "I hope that you have gained admission to another medical school"

Well, to be sure, those Chelsea gays are pretty legendary, even up here in Canada!

Right, well considering the speed of border customs clearance I can expect to know my admissions decision anywhere between now and July.

That stinks.. I mean WE think snail mail is terrible, I can't imagine how much worse it is for our neighbors north of the border. Just saw the Emory Thread and someone from Canada JUST got their acceptance letter.. the letter was sent out on Feb 23rd.

Nothing in the mail, NYC area. I figure it's probably a rejection, though I'm hoping for a waitlist at least. Sad because this was my dream school. Oh well. Congrats to everyone who's been accepted

Sorry to hear, but don't lose hope until you get an actual rejection!

After reading your post a couple of times, I've gotta say--as a Chelsea/HK/Village-loving, Jewspanic, ex-vegetarian, pomosexual New Yorker--I resent this, and it saddens me. What exactly are you saying about Chelsea gays, and who is 'labeling' you as such? Sigh, I'm gonna go read some Chauncey. 🙁

Shame on you for making me post again!!! Last one. I swear.

Draaaaaamaaaaa...
