i dont think they talk about interviews only the people they interviewed since the last time they met and the people who have already been placed on the waitlist.

Wow, was not expecting a call from Doug Taylor this morning! But he called to wish me a Merry Christmas and to congratulate me on being accepted!!!! What an amazing Christmas present!!!!!!!! Will definitely be there next year!!! And just let me also say that this is my second year applying. 28Q, 3.7 GPA...on active hold last year till April and was pulled from consideration then. I designed all of my work, volunteer and shadow experiences for a primary, rural setting because of how badly I wanted to go to ETSU over anywhere else. I love this school and the city, and can't wait to be there!

Congrats!

has anyone else been put on active hold? feeling discouraged right now

I was put on hold in late October. From what I was told, this happens to a lot of people on the front end. Once accepted students start taking other offers, the list moves, but that won't be until after the new year, probably a few months in to 2012. A lot of students I talked to at the interview said they came off the wait list. And statistically speaking, if you are an IS student that interviews you have about a 50/50 shot of getting accepted.

With such few spots, the vast majority of the interviewees end up on the active hold list before being accepted. By the way, if you look at the school site, last year they interviewed 209 in-state students and accepted 129 of them (and i'd say at least 75 of those 129 last year were at some time or another placed on the active hold list). But if you do the math, 129 out of 209 is 61.7%; i.e., 61.7% of the in-state students interviewed eventually received an acceptance letter last year. So if you interview at all, the odds are in your favor.

was just having a minor freakout lol

The new stats are up on the site, if anyone is interested...

so just to be clear as far as the website statistics go... the category current accepted means people who have been offered acceptance and have already agreed to attend right? 10 OS people so far, 50% more than last year...that sucks (can you tell I'm an IS student lol)

I thought they accepted more than 5 OOS last year based on the data from the MSAR book. I am really glad that I applied here but if I would have known that they only accepted 5 last year then I probably would not have applied in the first place! Good luck to all ISers. I am still waiting for some love from my public school as well.

Also, does anyone out there know how difficult it is to gain Tennessee residency for tuition purposes?

No, my understanding was that they accepted around 12 or so last year, and only 5 agreed to attend.

For those who have been accepted:

Does anyone know about a facebook page or group that has been made for this year's upcoming class?

Wannabedoc: No, "accepted" merely reflects the number of offers sent out. "Matriculated" indicates the total number of those that received an offer, accepted the offer, and actually attended. Those numbers aren't posted until the begining of each class. They always accept more students than seats as others choose to attend elsewhere. Hope this alleviates some of your fears. ;-) Happy holidays and good luck to all. I hope to see some of you on the 9th!

i believe he was asking about the currently accepted #s. which to me mean that x amount of people have paid their deposit and accepted their seat. jealous 🙁

Right, but remember that just because someone "accepts" a seat does not mean that they will actually attend. Some people will just hold the seat via the deposit (which is totally refundable at Quillen btw) but may actually matriculate elsewhere. In other words, there is still a lot of hope! Way too early to count anyone out.

an acceptance from etsu woulda made my christmas lol

Hey everyone this is my first time posting on the forum, but I've gotten my acceptance and am so excited about starting at etsu this fall!! I do not know anyone else attending yet, but would love to create a fb group so everyone can get to know each other. If you are planning on attending in the fall message me at facebook.com/baillie.lott so I can have a few members in order to get the group started. I am excited to get to know everyone and congrats to all those who have been accepted!!

Good! I've been wanting someone to make a FB group. I'll find you on there.

Quillen College of Medicine Class of 2016 facebook group is up for anyone who would like to join!

Regarding residency classification... it depends on your situation obviously. I was granted in-state status after first being classified out-of-state... but it's because I appealed their decision (via the appeals process that QCOM itself has in place), and I think I had a pretty good case. If you want to know more details about that just PM me 🙂

My interview is tomorrow! Wish me luck! Maybe I'll see a few of you there.

Haha, it was so cool calling out, "Ok, which one of you is on SDN?" It was awesome meeting a fellow SDNer.

You were totally right on about my interviewer. He even asked some of the very same scenarios! Except he had a bit more fun with me and was like, "Well, why not this?" Or "So you'd do that, huh?" LoL All in all, an absolute amazing experience. Top choice as of now!

Good luck, man. Feel free to PM me when you hear back. I'll do the same.

And good luck to everyone else. This place has an awesome reputation; and they not only met my expectations, but exceeded them. I feel honored to have had the chance to interview.

Take care.

Yeah man, that completely solidified it as my top choice. We'll see what happens!

For those of you accepted, (1) Did you a receive notice via snail mail or email? and (2) How long after the committee met did you receive notice?

Thanks, congrats to those accepted, and good luck to those still in the running.

Should you receive an acceptance, it will arrive via certified mail. Should you be placed on the wait-list, you will be notified via email. I would expect to hear something within one month. Good luck!

I can confirm this as well. Certified letter for my acceptance. One of the folks in the office told me during my interview that acceptances come certified mail, hold notification comes email, and rejection comes regular snail mail (not certified - they will just leave it in your mailbox).

It is my understanding that the committee meets approximately once a month, near the end of the month. My interview was 11/8, committee met 11/21, and I got my acceptance 11/25 (would have been the 24th but that was Thanksgiving). They may possibly meet more frequently in the spring, but honestly I don't know.

Best of luck!

Thank you both for the info. I know the committee meets January 30th, but had no idea how long and in what format to expect the result. Now I do! I'm so anxious to hear back. I hope to see you two this summer. Take care.

I interviewed on 12/1, the committee met on 12/19, and I actually received a call from Doug Taylor at like 10 AM the very next morning on 12/20. I don't know if he still calls the acceptees or if he was doing it as a "gift" during the Christmas season (kinda the impression I got). But that was my experience. And again, for anyone who is going to matriculate and attend Quillen next year, a Facebook group has been made for the Class of 2016 and would love to have as much of the class join it as possible, just so we can know a little bit about some of our future classmates before we get up there. Thanks!

Well I would think that they will be sending out letters of acceptance soon right!? Good luck to those who are waiting!

Yep, they meet on Monday. I'm guessing those with acceptances should hear a week from Monday (allowing time for certified mail delivery). The wait is excruciating.

Anyone heard about any movt on the wait list?

Waitlisted, just got the email seconda ago. I know this is a good thing, but I was REALLY hoping to be done with all this rather than wait another month, and possibly another, and possibly another before moving on with my life. Good luck to the rest. I wonder how many of us are in this boat.

well if its just you and me, then we can at least paddle our boat 😛
but in all reality, the waitlist isn't so bad. i guess i feel that way cause i've gotten in somewhere. i've already paid my fee for that school but you bet i would forfeit my spot if i got in at ETSU

Also waitlisted. Trying not to be bummed, but we'll see how things go.

Bummer indeed, SinfonianMD. I just finished looking through last year's thread and discovered that WL movement didn't begin until April. We have a very, very long wait ahead of us. During our tour on interview day I about freaked when that one MS1 guy told us about the two people they accepted 2 weeks after class started. I don't think I'd be able to integrate that late. That's like missing a semester's worth of material, not to mention the upheaval and search for a place to live.

So, it looks like those of you interviewing in the coming months have the best chance of a fresh acceptance at this point. All of us WLers will have to wait till April, including any of you that receive a hold notice after your upcoming interview. Just take solace in the fact they pull about 62% of their class from the WL. Good luck to everyone.

I'm an M1, we didn't have anyone accepted after school started. A couple of people were accepted 2 weeks before school started, though. While it is true that there is a lot more waitlist movement in April, there is still some before then. I was waitlisted and received my acceptance in early March. And you're right, they do pull most of the class off of the waitlist, so rest assured that you still have a good chance of getting in even though you're waitlisted.

Just keep your eye out for that certified letter!

Good luck guys.

rejected today off the waitlist. honestly heartbroken about it. good luck to the rest of you

Acceptance letter in the mail today (although not certified....interestingly enough....). Will be heading elsewhere though so I hope my spot can go to one of you folks on the waitlist!

Congrats Dogluvr! Were you accepted immediately, or had you been placed on the "hold" list before?

It was right away, I interviewed in early January. Hopefully some other people will be getting their letters soon as well!

I actually prefer a non-certified letter. I'm never home. It'd probably take me a week to request time off to sign for the darn thing...although, I'd more than welcome that predicament. LoL
