Does anyone remember what date in February Dr. Eubanks said the first advocates meeting is?

I just have february in my notes, but I feel like it was somewhere between 12th and 16th. So, I'm betting, like, two weeks at the latest.

FINALLY! Got my acceptance letter in the mail today. This is not my first time applying and interviewing at LSU, so it's been a long, hard road to get here. GOOD LUCK to everyone else still waiting!

When did you interview?

I'm waiting on LSUNO to show me some love. Just interviewed and got accepted in Shreveport! Yay! But I would certainly love the chance to interview and go to LSUNO! Congrats to all the recent intvitees and those that were accepted!!

Block 1 exams of last med school classes semester! woot.

Good luck to all of those still waiting!
To the MD/PhD kids: hope to see you March 9 🙂

.. now back to our regular programming of pharmacology..

im going to be applying here for the next application cycle. for all that got accepted, can you tell me about how much EC volunteer hours you had? trying to gauge how competitive I am. Thanks.

~400 in the previous year, but it wasn't so much to rack up a lot of hours as it was to prove myself and get some strong rec letters...

Yea I did close to 600...But I agree with Scarshapedstar. It's more about the experience gained while volunteering than the amount of hours completed.

Along those same lines, what kind of research/publishing experience did ya'll have?

I think I had maybe 100 hours volunteering between two ERs, and no research. But I have a lot of non-healthcare related ECs that probably helped, and good MCAT and gpa.
Go to MDapplicants and look at the stats of accepted students on there, it's kind of helpful.

No research or publications here either..I focused the majority of my time volunteering in different hospitals, working with special needs children, shadowing doctors, and working in a medical office. I also got my EMT certification which gave me a good amount of hands-on medical experience. Lastly, I had a 4.0 Science GPA, which made up for my mediocre MCAT score. Hope this helps!👍

you guys make me feel very far behind. Ive got maybe 100 volunteer hours total lol. Im working on getting alot this semester but I hope I can make up for it

It's not quantity, go for quality. 600+ hours isn't going to mean anything if you have nothing to say about it.
I'd suggest volunteering in a smaller hospital where they'll actually give you things to do. Larger EDs have so many techs, scribes, med students and nursing students, you being in a room to see a procedure with them is just too many people. Free or charity clinics are better, they will let you do more.

I only had 40ish hours of "clinical" volunteering in a hospital and I shadow a couple of docs for a couple days. I did do a lot of non-clinical "volunteering" through ASB, BSA, etc, but the hours aren't quantifiable for those.

I did do 4 years of research, but no publications.

im volunteering at a hospice and a nursing home. would you consider that "clinical"?

Very little shadowing (although I definitely don't recommend this...) 2-400 hrs volunteering in psych hospital, probably a comparable amount of time doing AED-related stuff, a year and a half chem research, a year psych research (pub possible eventually for psych, but nothing said about it on amcas).

Volunteer experience wise, I volunteered for 3 hrs / week for half a year, maybe ending up around 75 hrs volunteering in the ER.

I've had about 8 months of research experience. However, at my interview I only had about four months under my belt.

Keeping my fingers crossed for some March 9th interview action!!! Anyone else applying MD/PhD? If so, have you heard anything?

Anyone else besides me waiting for the feb. admissions meeting where they rank te wait list and accept the top few immediately?

Anyone know the date for sure? Earlier in the forum said the 10th, but I just want to make sure ...

I am. I never did know the date. I received a NFA back in the fall. Does anybody have any info about how many they take during this meeting?

For recent interviewers, did they say if students were able to audio record lectures? I pretty sure I remember them saying that video recorder lectures are not allowed (my interview was back in the october).

You remembered correctly...The students are not allowed to audio record the lectures. However, the note-takers who type up the notes for the note service are allowed to record lectures.

We have some students that are trying to set up a "lecture capture" system and even potentially do away with notes. Nobody really knows what will come of this, but apparently on the of the deans was saying we're having some turnover near the top of administration and the new people may be more open to new things like this.

We'll see what happens with this. All I know is that it's my last semester of notes and I'm pretty happy.

Does anyone know how the selection process works for the 3 year program in Lafayette?

During our interview day orientation, Dr. Eubanks said that they are currently no longer doing the 3 year program in Lafayette.

not for this year anyway, I think they're gonna try and start it up next year.

can someone tell me how long it would take for me to find out about result when I'm interviewing next week?

Do you guys know if people from California (like myself) still have a shot at an interview at LSU? I was marked complete on 9/19. I am still very much interested in interviewing at LSU and I am still in the running, according to the admin office.

Thanks!

We actually just received the first ever podcast today! It's neuroscience, which means I won't watch it, but it's pretty cool none-the-less.

To all waiting for interviews/acceptances: I interviewed the week before Mardi Gras and didn't get accepted until the summer. Hang in there, and don't give up hope!

With the ubiquity of smartphones, seems like it should be possible to form a little club and just upload them to youtube, no matter how much the higher-ups drag their feet.

...and then I read up further about how they have some rule against this. Oooookay.

So if they had a meeting on the 10th, the date that was quoted multiple times in this thread, I guess they would have sent out letters today. Do ya'll think that all NFA recipients will get a status letter (yes, no, or another NFA)?

Wondering the same thing, guess we'll find out...but the letters should have been sent out today

Decided to withdraw from this school, hope one of yall who's waiting gets my spot. Good luck!

I know for a fact that they are working on the letters now, and they will be putting them in the mail today. Hope this info eases some of the anticipation
