Congrats! Do you mind sharing what number and what day you interviewed so maybe we can get an idea what order they are going out in?

I am in the #2 position. I interviewed on December 9th

When did you interview? And is your online portal status updated to show this as well?

The online portal has been updated for me, but does not show them offering acceptances to the alternate list yet.

Congrats to #s 2 and 4, you guys are pretty golden. They seem to be doing things in order, this year (how rational!) which made me very excited when I got an email just now.
#38.
I don't know whether to breathe a sigh of relief of shake my fist, but for now, I'll take it.

('Course, this also means more waiting...)

Oh, and based on previous years (and the realities of AAMC traffic rules) I *highly* doubt there will be any movement before May 16th. Given that they'll have to count up all the (many, I hope!) last minute withdrawals before they can start going through the waitlist, I'd guess the first day we can hope to see any movement is the 21st.

any theories on how deep we will go into the list this year? 🙂

#45....Not sure how to take that, but at least there's still hope. Congrats to everyone who received good news!

So anyone have any predictions on wait list movement this year?

any theories on how deep we will go into the list this year? 🙂

My optimistic side hopes for a changed paradigm--they're seeking more OOS students who have a lower conversion rate, it's an increasingly expensive option, etc.-- and hopes for ~100 spots on the WL, like last year. My more realistic side expects at least *some* regression to the mean. If I had to guess I'd say 80? :xf: But it could easily be 29. :scared:

Very deep. Like last year 🙂

My one hesitation with predicting 2011-level WL movement is that it kinda seems like they under-accepted last year and filled the last ~30 of their 120 initial spots with WL folks. That would still mean a lot more movement than 2010 and 2009, but closer to 2008 and 2007 and sadly out of triple digits. (Also, I think I remember Katy referring to last year's high number of acceptances as an "aberration." Take that for what it's worth...)
Anyway, I certainly hope you're right and would love to be convinced.

I remember a few posts back on this thread someone posted the stats of WL movement from previous years. Anyone remember where those were at? There are 15 million posts to search through 🙂

Thanks for posting that! Im keeping my fingers crossed.

Anyone else heard anything? Portal news? And is it terrible of me to be halfway sorry the weather will be perfectly (and unseasonably) gorgeous for the final second look day tomorrow? :meanie:

#62.. hmmmmm, so that's 61 people I have to somehow eliminate :meanie:

But foreals.. I feel indifferent now. I feel like OHSU doesn't want me that bad haha.

Anyone have any idea why there is such a jump in waitlist movement between 2010 and 2011? For instance, was there a loss of funding that resulted in much less scholarship money? I mean between every year there is really not all too much difference between it and the year before, at least not as much as between 2010 and 2011. I have trouble believing such a difference is due to random variation alone.

Are they actually sending these out in order, or were the first two posting just coincidental? Mine came at 3:28, FWIW.

Honestly, I think it's because they accept so many people late that they are essentially guaranteeing themselves the title of second-choice school for many people. How many people interviewed around Christmas and got accepted this week? While I got accepted to OHSU months back, had I had to wait until now I would have most likely mentally settled on a different school (whether or not I loved the school, with having heard back from every other school months ago I would have been at least subconsciously deciding). You then might think that money can dissuade people from some schools and bring them to others but OHSU has no money to give and therefore no persuasion power. So that being said, by being soooooo incredibly slow to start accepting people, they are loosing the mental-love-game for everyone who has already been accepted, gotten financial aid, and found an apartment at another school (which is the majority of other schools); these people will just turn around and give the acceptance right back to OHSU.

I don't want to be too cynical, but OHSU's admission procedure really sucks.

It does look like it's in order of waitlist rank #, not interview date.

So I'm bracing myself for a high waitlist number, or worse. 🙁

Alternate list position top 1/3rd... :scared: Dont know what to think. interviewed 11/18. First time applicant, IS.

My email was sent at 3:12 pm. I interviewed 2/24 and am OOS.
Thanks! It really does look like emails are going out in order of waitlist rank.

#8 is about as sure a number as you could get, congrats! 👍

Are these just numbers pulled off of SDN (from peoples own posts) or are these confirmed with OHSU? I remember reading on here somewhere, that a guy got in at 120 last year, during orientation week.

I feel like banging my head against a wall, I dont know what to think with 59...:scared::xf:

I pulled them from a previous post on page 14 or 15 or something like that. I have no idea where they got it.

#8 here. Now I'm really stuck on what to do....

What are your choices?

And IWant2StayInOR, I don't think those numbers are official, but I do think they're pretty accurate. They were compiled, IIRC, by a five time applicant who finally got in last year after being just a couple spots short (36 when it went to 32, maybe?) the year before. 😱 Since the waitlist status is open to everyone on it, I think the numbers should be pretty accurate.

Tossing my hat into the ring for the first time this year . . .

#100 on the OHSU wait list.

I've got an acceptance from Tulane in my pocket, but I was born and raised in the City of Roses and have already been away six years. I'm ready to come home.

And knowing there's a miniscule chance I might get in to OHSU will make this miserable.

By the way, I really appreciate this forum. I've been trolling a while, and it's really helped me out, especially with my interviews.

#9 on the Alternate list (email came at 3:13 PM right on #8's heels). OOS interviewed in the 3rd round ages ago, on hold since December. Planning to accept the invite. VERY excited!

Honestly, I think it's because they accept so many people late ...

I think Natrix hit the nail on the head... As for why there were so many admits off the wait list last year in particular, no one knows. There always is an outlier and last year was it. I think the final person (120? 122?) was admitted 72 hours before orientation. When you get here, I'm sure you'll notice that Med15 is totally awesome. 🙂

I pulled them from a previous post on page 14 or 15 or something like that. I have no idea where they got it.

They were assembled by a former SDNer who went through 4+ years of rejections before an acceptance last year (not me). I think that s/he assembled them her/hisself via their own portal experience. There was also a graph with a timeline for wait list movement for previous years that you may want to go back and find and keep updated.

I just wanted to say congrats to all, and hang in there to those still waiting. It's a wild ride for sure.

👍 This, of course, is a given!

Congrats to those who have been accepted and GL to those on the list. We have your Gleevec/Bcr-Abl study materials waiting for you.

I think I have you beat, my friend. #144. 😛 At 4:36pm.
By which I think we can safely infer that they notified all 150 waitlist positions by 5pm. *sigh*

This little piggy is expecting the hatchet to drop tomorrow... 🙁

I can't say I'm too surprised. I had a horrible cold on interview day and was only able to make it through at all with the aid of a bunch of cold medication. My throat was so dry that I could barely stifle my coughs even with frequent sips from my water bottle. Oh well, probably for the best.

Looks like I'll be sticking with my partial scholarship to Ohio State.

I can't even imagine how bad it would be to limp through interview day sick like that. You're a trooper!

Did your waitlist email come out today or yesterday?

Evidence for your hypothesis.

Rejected via status update last night - kind of a bummer to get the axe from my in-state school, especially since I thought the MMI went fairly well. Ah well, life moves on - congratulations to those high on the waitlist! The elf village on the hill is a wonderful school.

I'm sorry to hear it, and thanks for the data point.

I've still heard absolutely nothing since my interview date. 😕

The e-mail came at 4:24pm yesterday.

Back when I got horribly sick the week of my interview I remember reflecting on just how many variables are involved in the whole medical school application process, some within our control and some not. Aside from the general randomness of whether your particular interviewer "clicks" with you or the things the admissions people wind up paying attention to on your application, there's also just these random acts of nature like getting sick that can potentially derail what might otherwise have been a good interview. I'm grateful that I wasn't sick for any of my other interviews, but it kind of reminds me of just how much the whims of chance can influence this process.

Curiouser and curiouser. Are they doing complete passes in batches? Half of 1-150 + rejections one day, the other half the next? Different staff members win different methods?

Good luck to everyone who hasn't heard. I know how gut wrenching this can be.

I just called the admissions office and the lady told me my status.... rejected. She said it would be updated in the portal either today or Monday. Time to get going on my app for next year! Good luck to all those still in the running.

Also rejected, status updated today. Apparently this is an "unpleasant experience"...
I wonder how they're doing exit interviews this year.
